Mizuguchi's Every Extend Extra Extreme announced for XBLA

It was never going to be Rez, and we knew it -- not unless Q has surprises for us -- but Tetsuya Mizuguchi's next bound-for-XBLA opus does have sufficient neon-on-black to make us very happy Marketplace campers. Every Extend Extra Extreme, or E4 for short, is a new take on E3 (which Q developed for the PSP last year). The original Every Extend game was developed by Omega for the PC (the freeware version is here).
Described as a "trippy visual journey of self destruction," E4 will enable you to play with your own tunes -- or, according to the peoplespeak of Q's press release, "wiz ur muzik" -- and against others in an online versus mode. If you're hooked on the PSP version (and if not, do get hooked), you'll know that the gameplay is all about chain reactions. Pretty chain reactions. But this XBLA version also offers Leaderboards and Achievements to keep the chain junkies flying. When, you ask? "Later this year."

I have absolutely no idea what is going on in those screen shots, but it is certainly colorful.
Myke @ Mar 6th 2007 11:52AM
This is going to be huge.

what is this guys obsession with using alliteration in the titles of his games?
-Ninety Nine Nights (a.k.a. N3)
-Every Extend Extra Extreme (a.k.a. E4)

I loved the PSP version's box art!
sheppy @ Mar 6th 2007 12:08PM
Now will he be releasing the full version initially or will you unlock game modes through "bonus packs?" I KEED! I KEED! Mostly.
Seriously though. I have E3 on PSP and I don't know what the hype is about. It's not Lumines and it sure as hell isn't Rez.
Shmil @ Mar 6th 2007 12:10PM
dsub, do you want to type out every extend extra extreme every time you talk about it? its just simple abbreviation
ScreamingSkull @ Mar 6th 2007 12:14PM
Yeah I wasn't too excited about the PSP version and I really wanted Rez, my reaction to this is just kind of, meh.
n3rrd @ Mar 6th 2007 12:27PM
I enjoyed Every Extend, but haven't heard good things about Extra... mainly that the added interface pizzaz actually subtracted from the gameplay. So, I don't know how to feel about E4.

My brain hurts. What are my eyes looking at? So many colors!! Fighter planes!!!
Abhinav @ Mar 6th 2007 2:41PM
Meh. I and many other gamers were disappointed in this game when it was released on the PSP. While i am sure some will love it please do not get your hopes up if you have not played the game before. I still think Rez would be a smashing success.
SomaXD @ Mar 6th 2007 2:48PM
crap, well its not rez (dammit dammit) but i love E3 sooooo, this looks freaking awesome (custom music omg)
ALH @ Mar 6th 2007 2:03PM
i am Qs faithful bitch so this will be a welcome addition to my arcade collection.
The funny thing is, i probably would have eventually bought a psp for E3 and lumines. Its nice to see that more people can have access to these games now.Sonys loss is everyones gain :D.
sheppy @ Mar 6th 2007 2:22PM
"Sonys loss is everyones gain :D."
Between you, me, and the fence. I frankly don't see how a smaller version of Lumines that's more expensive, and even requires the use of 360s tragically horrible d-pad (seriously... the thing feels like a Mad Catz N64 controller), is somehow a loss. But keep living that dream, man.
Diskoboy @ Mar 6th 2007 2:31PM
Well, I'd rather have Rez, but as I said yesterday - This'll do. It's addictive as hell. I play the free PC version, constantly.
ill trooper @ Mar 6th 2007 2:46PM
My whole life is a "trippy visual journey of self destruction."
dsub @ Mar 6th 2007 5:54PM
Shmil-
alliteration is a literary term for a phrase in which every single word starts with the same letter. It has NOTHING to do with abbreviation. So I don't get what your point is.
Plaid Ninja @ Mar 6th 2007 3:43PM
Argh, what a tease! As much as I love EEE (and I really do) I would have LOVED a high res... Rez
Clutch_beast @ Mar 6th 2007 10:15PM
After E3 was released, I downloaded the freeware version and played essentially nothing else for three weeks. I can't imagine how much of my time would be eaten by a version with more than two levels.
Revo @ Mar 6th 2007 7:11PM
Hmm... I wonder what a sequel to this one would be named. Every Extend Extra Extreme: Extravagantly Excessive "Ex"es Edition, perhaps?
Blue_Falcon @ Mar 6th 2007 8:24PM
If it'll get me hooked like Lumines did, I'll gladly fork over $30 for this...assuming the main modes are all in the package.
Therum @ Apr 7th 2007 1:59PM
I'm a huge E2 and E3 fan, so I'm looking forward to this. It's just another reason to buy a 360.
