Okami creator 'disappointed' by Twilight Princess

Okami is deeply beautiful to our eyes, and it's a superb game. Twilight Princess, we feel, is a deeply brilliant game. But is Link's most recent adventure also beautiful? Okami's Director, Hideki Kamiya, was in Tokyo last week to pick up an Entertainment Award (for his work on Okami, natch) at the 10th Media Arts Festival, which is an event held annually by Japan's Agency for Cultural Affairs. (And that must have felt good, after Capcom's no-show at the AIAS awards.)

Kamiya was asked how he felt about Nintendo's Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, and he explained: "To be frank, I was disappointed when I saw [Twilight Princess'] visuals. I'm a Zelda freak -- it's no overstatement to say that I created Okami because of Zelda. I really wanted [Twilight Princess] to have that regal aura, because Zelda was what we were aspiring to. I wanted it to show me things that were surprising, but..."

So, which game do you find to be more beautiful?

I do say that Okami and Twlight Princess are good games, and I do have them both. Twilight Princess was a beautiful game realistcally, while Okami was a beautiful game art-wise.

However, Okami has won 1st place as my favorite game, and is the only game I have ever played that made me cry. It is truly something special to me.

It depends on your defintion of beauty. Some people prefer a more realistic type of game, while others are more drawn to games like Okami and Wind Waker.

Now, some people here have been saying that Kamiya's just saying that because he was jealous of Twilight Princess because it had better sales than Okami. Well, I honestly don't think he would get jealous because another game is doing better than his. I know that he does care about sales to a certain degree, but I don't think it was on the Top 5 of his priororiy list. I believe he cares more about creating a orginal game.

One of the many reasons why Twilight Princess did so well (other than the graphics and such) was because people were familiar to the charecter Link and the game itself. People, regretablly, don't generally go out and buy games that they know may possibly be a disapointment to them. Okami's sales suffered because of this, despite the fact that it was a great game.

And by the way, why do people care so much about graphics? I play games for the storyline and lovable charecters...Not to just look at a moving pretty picture all day. Why can't people
be open to all artstic styles?
