Readers pick best webcomic: Smooth Moves
Before we get with the post, a note of thanks to all the commenters that, until this morning at least, were very civil and kind in their discussion of this week's webcomic wrapup.Sure, we've all thought about the dirty things Wario would make us do if Smooth Moves was not an all-ages Nintendo title. VG Cats' Scott Ramsoomair makes the latest crack on the joke and takes top titles.
Second place goes to the Penny Arcade Sony satires, while third was apprehended by Scott Johnson of Extra Life.
Thanks to everyone who voted, and be sure to let us know of any gaming comics you stumble upon this week!
Here's the breakdown:

VGCATS, PENNY ARCADE, AND EXTRA LIFE ARE TRYING TO CLAIM THAT THEY HAD THE FIRST COMICS! JOHNNY TURBO'S BEEN OUT FOR MORE THAN 15 YEARS!
Slackerz totally deserved to win.
Tetelestia @ Mar 6th 2007 8:15AM
Someday before I die, I hope VG Cats will be funny at least once.
Freelancepimp @ Mar 6th 2007 8:33AM
I am starting to wonder if this is fixed!
FrankTheCrank @ Mar 6th 2007 8:38AM
This weekly web comic thing is a complete waste of space.
Does anyone really care?
So I have to go to another site, read a bunch of comics, come back here, then vote on the one I like? Sounds like work. Work sucks.

CAD? excuse me?
look, CAD is among the WORST of the webcomics out there. i think your sense of taste is broke.
Satan's Clause @ Mar 6th 2007 9:24AM
I hear you Tetelestia. That comic was just plain juvenile and wasn't funny at all.
Hank, that Mario one is so stupid. I like it.
eduplessis @ Mar 6th 2007 9:30AM

Ken @ Mar 6th 2007 9:35AM
Haha, I like that VG Cats one, that's good stuff.
And you guys think the polls are fixed? Because you didn't like it? Wow... Way to be self centered. I know this is a shock... but other people have DIFFERENT opinions of you! *GASP*!
Get real people.
eduplessis @ Mar 6th 2007 9:37AM
maybe but i think the gamer glossary is very nice...
Fatass of Kickassness @ Mar 6th 2007 9:40AM
Ken, it might have been funnier if that same joke hadn't been used several times before it.
Seriously, how does VGcats keep winning? 'Cute factor' or something? Seriously. It wasn't even funny. It might have been funny if the execution was a bit better, but 'I don't want to play this anymore...' makes for a lame punchline.
Slackerz totally deserved to win.
Markusdragon @ Mar 6th 2007 10:10AM
While Slackers came with an awesome obscure pop culture reference joke, VGcats came with an overused joke that doesn't even compare!!
Charron @ Mar 6th 2007 10:49AM
I'm gonna have to second Hank's PBF nomination.
Christopher7xii @ Mar 6th 2007 10:52AM
Dude, VG cats was absolutely hilarious this week. The face on the third pose, the Donkey Punch, is fucking great.
You people bitch too much. Just because it isn't the funny to you, doesn't mean it isn't for others. I thought Slackerz was dumb, but I understand some people would find it funny.
And Joystiq, I love the weekly comic wrap up. Don't ever cut it out. Gives me a bunch of stuff to check out at the end of the week. Picked up four new webcomics that I love that I didn't know before from this.
-Digital Unrest
-Fanboyz
-Dueling Analogs
-Extra Life
----- Not to mention, teaches me what to avoid... Like RPG-TV... And Dragon Tales

If you look at it in terms of context and broad comic archive, the Fanboy$ one is quite entertaining. They specifically state how all the webcomics will be doing the same lame Wii jokes ad infinitum then turn around and do one themselves.
BlindsideDork @ Mar 6th 2007 11:28AM
Could've been better...
Evan @ Mar 6th 2007 11:48AM
@B1indspot
Fanboys Online was literally about smoking. VGCats was about how the "smoking" move is like oral sex with the Wiimote. Completely different punchlines!
Tim Harding @ Mar 6th 2007 1:05PM
new comic up tomorrow: http://www.2pstart.com/

Bring back the multiple choice!
Christopher7xii @ Mar 6th 2007 3:45PM
Thanks for pointing that out Evan. I thought I was the only one that realized that.
Scott Smith @ Mar 6th 2007 11:47PM
I just want to say that although Slackerz didn't win, we appreciate the fact that Ross included the comic on the list despite him cutting the wrapup down a considerable amount.
Thanks a lot for the opportunity and the extra promotion.

Normally I find it irritating to see the most popular comics in the universe win EVERY SINGLE TIME. But I must remind myself of why they are popular in the first place. Because they are generally far better than some of the other comics we rarely see. Although one has to wonder how CAD and Dueling Analogs makes it into every single WWCW. Kind of like how Family Guy and Spongebob Squarepants get nominated for Best Animated Program awards on the odd occasion...
I did prefer the VGCats strip over just about everything else this week. While the Turbografx Slackerz strip had plenty of wacky enthusiasm, the writing itself never really went anywhere. I'm not sure if the man telling his CEO boss that Johnny Turbo is outside the office is supposed to harken back to the old man who thought he was Link in a mental institution punchline. If this guy was destroying libraries and punching people with such force that they almost gain flight, why wouldn't the CEO be worried?
Besides, I think "I don't want to play this anymore" was pretty funny in my eyes. Of course, I imagine him saying that with a childlike voice, so perhaps it's more my overactive imagination than the comic itself.
Is it self-absored(or even allowed) if you nominate your own comic?

I don't think the comic I've voted for has ever won the wwcw. Yet you don't see me complaining about it - I only vote for what makes me laugh the most (or sometimes at all). I would like to mention that VG Cats and Penny Arcade seem to win a whole lot more than the others and that could be because they really are funny (which sometimes they are) or because people just vote for them because they like them.
Personally, I don't think it's really about who wins the thing - it's more about having all the weeks quote un quote "best" gaming webcomics in one place for you to enjoy.
Linkman2004 @ Mar 10th 2007 12:51AM
My latest comic about God having an Xbox Live gamertag. ;)
