French gaming site Xboxygen has posted some pictures of a dog. Not just any dog, but Fable 2's dog. Could this be the "totally unexpected" feature Molyneux teased us about?
According to Penny Arcade, the story of the Fable dog broke on Kotaku, but the article was pulled.
"Instead your dog will act as a sort of living HUD. The game has no map, no other user interface on screen. Instead you will have to rely on the dog and what he sees and does. You also will control the dog by your own actions."
YouNEWB.com has a bunch of pictures up too (I can't xboxygen.com at work and others might be in the same boat).
Looks and sounds interesting. Whatever makes it more immersive. The first one was loads of fun, but fell a little short (read, a lot short) of what Petey was looking to accomplish.
Fable was pretty good, but the story got boring before the end. Hopefully Fido will keep me entertained by lending a hand in fights... and by attacking the kids during the story-time classroom scenes.
I love Fables art direction! Nice to know they are keeping the same style. Look at that draw distance!! Not crazy about the dog thing unless I can get a pitbull and set it loose in a schoolyard.
Fable = Most disappointing game ever! Now this jerk who stole our money with ridiculous lies about his game wants us to get excited about a freakin dog?? Im not making the same mistake twice, fable was supposed to be a revolutionary RPG but instead was a short, boring hack and slash buttom smasher... Dont give us a dog peter, give us a quality game!
a dog? Thats it? errr i hope its something more then that. The first one was a huge dissapointment... you have to add something more then a dog to the game if its supposed to be great
Could be kind of useless (if its an integral part of the gameplay)
If its an option, or just there for some "missions" in the game, it could work, but a whole game running around with a dog would be kind of stupid (since, in keeping with Fable's realism, the dog would be killable, both by you and by foes)
Fable was short and easy, but I had loads of fun with it. Really looking forward to Fable 2. People need to remember that this isn't officially the thing you didn't expect. That was just a sarcastic comment by Joystiq. Unless the dog is really deeply involved and adds tons to the gameplay. I'm guessing it is an optional pet you can have to follow you. Or maybe, you ARE the dog. Cue's Twilight Zone music.
@ Aaron, I was thinking the same thing. I loved Secret of Evermore, it was the first RPG Square designed specifically for a Western market. Too bad it wasn't noticed.
Anyway, I'm guessing the dog will work somewhat like Zelda's OoT's fairy and Secret of Evermore's dog, helping you attack enemies and point you in the right direction. But if I have to give up a map for a dog that holds my hand, I'll be dissapointed. I liked Fable, I wanted to love it but it didn't deliver, hopefully Peter can pull this one off.
I was going to mention Secret of Evermore but 2 persons beat me to it!!
Actually, from what I know, it was a USA studio that developed Secret of Evermore, American guys. Anyways, this has been done long ago. BTW, doesn't it look too much like the 1rst Fable? I know it's work-in-progress but....
So can we feed corn to this dog, and look at it's poo and see the kernels in it? Because I was really looking forward to that feature in the first Fable.
This is one of the many new unexpected features he chatted about in an interview the other day. You no age dynamically over a period of 50 years and if female can even become pregnant!! I expect there will be many more 'unexpected' features on the way people so stop monaing about this 'rubbish' unexpected feature (and joystiq stop goading them, you KNEW it wasn't the 'main' unexpected' feature).
