Hall of Fame demonstration video for PS3 Home
In addition to the introductory video of Sony's Second Life on steroids community, the company showed off its nifty little gamer Hall of Fame room. No longer will our gamer achievements solely be retold to others becoming legend in the process; our accomplishments will now stand the test of time erected as nerd cred in the form of 3D game trophies. You've worked so hard to this point. Finally, some proper recognition.

In 10 seconds after this is released, some kid with a Action Replay / Game Genie like device will unlock every trophy and make this system absolutely meaningless.
flymolo @ Mar 8th 2007 4:02PM
That one room totally looks just like the senate from starwars Ep1,2,3
Hannibal @ Mar 8th 2007 4:02PM
I wonder if they'll have a gamerscore type of thing which you can just casually glance at while waiting for something to start. If you have to load a big world every time you want to look at your trophies/achievements or whatever it's hard to imagine the trophies being as important as achievements.
jsn @ Mar 8th 2007 4:03PM
Total fluff... when you're playing from behind and you imitate instead of innovate, you will continue to play from behind.
OmahaGTP @ Apr 15th 2007 8:41PM
As someone who already owns a 360 and Wii, I will say that Sony may be on to something with this Home deal. Plus, it's free. The revealing of LittleBig Planet was awesome. Sony, make the controllers have rumble, and I'll purchase immediately.
Anonymous @ Mar 8th 2007 4:04PM
This is just one more example of how Sony is just now catching up (feature-wise) to the Xbox 360 (with achievements, etc)
I paid 600 dollars for a PS3. Not so that I could have Xbox 360-esque online features, but so that I could play some exclusive PS3 titles. So Sony... WHERE THE HELL ARE THE (good) EXCLUSIVE PS3 TITLES?!?!?
My main gripes for the PS3 and the Wii at this point are a lack of exclusive titles that make me glad I purchased their systems. I could have played Twilight Princess on a Gamecube, and I could (in the future) play games such as Unreal Tournament 2007 and Assassins Creed on the Xbox 360. Why did I need either a PS3 or a Wii?
shase @ Mar 8th 2007 4:04PM
its better than numbers... picture is always better than a words. Its always more satisfying to have a trophy for that "impossible challenge" than some points and a title
Joop @ Mar 8th 2007 4:06PM
"on steroids" usually implies more functionality, not less. It's interesting, but it's really just a watered down Second Life, not a beefed up one.
Shagittarius @ Mar 8th 2007 4:08PM
I was kind hoping the 'trophies' would be more like unique pieces of furniture or functionality that you could add to your apartment. Would be way better than a menu system based trophy shelf.
LaughingTarget @ Mar 8th 2007 4:08PM
Maybe if they shipped those trophies to you in hard form (every 10 you get, they ship you a box of them for $5) it would be cool. Otherwise, seems like a good waste of data space and developer time that could have been used for something with more substance.
deaftly @ Mar 8th 2007 4:08PM

I never thought I'd buy another console but the PS3 just keeps looking better and better all the time.
Josiah LoRusso @ Mar 8th 2007 4:10PM
PS3 and Wii exclusives? What 360 exclusives were there in March of 06? Oblivion and that was about it. PS3 has motorstorm which is alright and will appeal to more gamers then Oblivion did. Zelda has probably sold better then oblivion already so enough there. Just wait until this fall you'll get a bunch of exclusives for both systems. Every system takes about a year before they get a decent exclusive.
Ant D @ Mar 8th 2007 4:10PM
What a load of bullsh@t this is.....another failed attempt, yeah now I want to spend $600 on the PS3 paperweight!!!!.....SONY BLOWS!!
WTF @ Mar 8th 2007 4:12PM
How long till someone gets out of the map?
RoroCo @ Mar 8th 2007 4:12PM
The only time I ever look at anybody's achievements on the 360 is via xbox.com. Adding fluffy 3D to an achievement reward system is cool, but I would never visit anyone else's trophy room, nor would I care about "decorating" mine.
Enough with this GUI fluff Sony... It is time for some gaming news. Have you forgotten who you are?
LunarDuality @ Mar 8th 2007 4:15PM
@ Hannibal
I think you hit the nail on the head. This does look cool, don't get me wrong, *but* I like the fact that achievements/gamerscore is something that you can quickly view without a lot of hassle. Actually I wish the 360 had fewew steps actually.
jsn @ Mar 8th 2007 4:16PM
Nobody is ever going to use this thing. Achievements are a very minor thing, but at least their easy to locate and easy to compare with your friends. Having to load up a "game" and drudge around a room to see how good your friend is in Madden is stupidly overblown.
Jake @ Mar 8th 2007 4:18PM
It is hilarious how Sony execs used to take jabs at the 360 achievement system. Now they copy it in an oh so obvious way and want us to get excited about it.
I mean, it is a nice feature, but they try to act like they totally came up with it themselves and it is way better than the competition.
Jas @ Mar 8th 2007 4:21PM
Sony absolutely reeks of desperation. "PLEASE BUY OUR CONSOLE (IE: Please save our company!!)" "See, we have the same features as the Wii and 360!! I know, we don't have any decent exclusives and most of our games don't have online capabilities and yes, there's no unified friends list and you may need to buy a newer HDTV to get the resolution you expected, but the PS2 still sold the most last generation! That's gotta stand for something, right?"
"You still there?!?"
bootsielon @ Mar 8th 2007 4:23PM
Fucking retarded fanboys. This is better than anything on other consoles; if anything you should be happy because it's an incentive for Microsoft to make Xbox LIVE free, or add more features, let alone for Nintendo to actually make their online service work already.
Anyway, to all you idiots criticizing Sony for taking jabs at Microsoft and Nintendo for doing something like this before, here's a lesson you should learn: It is called marketing.
Here's another lesson for all those that scream at Sony for "copying" features: It is called business.
Tom @ Mar 8th 2007 5:52PM
Seems like an overly complicated and time consuming thing for a very simple thing. With achievements you can quickly check somones gamerscore or break it into individual achievements and games through menus. With this you have to actually have to load up the second life bit, then load the hall of fame, then you can only see a few trophies they have chosen so you have to walk to the central hub and select it, then you have to select the game so you can see the trophies. Oh but you can't just look at a list of trophies with each assigned a score, you have to rotate through a 3d trophy case to check each one individually.
Its too complicated. I don't want to do this in 3d I want to do it quickly. This whole home idea is nice but just done so wrong, seems to just be making everything more time consuming.
bootsielon @ Mar 8th 2007 4:25PM
lol, Jas, you think this is desperation? Desperation would have been dropping the price already, or offering tons of games with PS3. On the other hand, they are being competitive.
Or is Microsoft being desperate for launching a year earlier and making Xbox LIVE so "good" and Nintendo desperate for making its console cheap by taking features off? Here's another lesson for you: It's called competition.
Kizzle @ Mar 8th 2007 4:28PM
Josiah LoRusso: "PS3 and Wii exclusives? What 360 exclusives were there in March of 06? Oblivion and that was about it."
GRAW, dumbass. Two awesome games that month alone. Prior to that in February was Fight Night 3 and Burnout Revenge - "ports" if you want, but much improved over the current/last gen offerings of the same titles. Prior to that there was DOA4 at the end of December/early January. Then you're getting into the launch titles, which were at least better than average (CoD2, PDZ, Condemned, Kameo).
So yeah - the 360 pretty much spanked the PS3 and Wii when it comes to the "launch window" period. No contest. That doesn't mean much in the long run, since no one cares about the launch titles 3 years down the pipe. But it's fucking annoying to see morons saying that the 360's early titles all were disappointing too, when it's clearly not the case.
jsn @ Mar 8th 2007 4:32PM
bootsielon,
You're just full of lessons aren't you? Which lesson will teach us how to make excuses for a companies half baked product, their lack of innovation and their poor execution?
Norm @ Mar 8th 2007 4:36PM
I thought this was so amazing at first, then I saw it in motion and it looks totally boring. I mean I thought it would be really groundbreaking, but who the heck wants to spend 30 minutes browsing through someone else's RESISTANCE trophies?
I really hope there is more to it than that.
KrazyKoala @ Mar 8th 2007 4:38PM
If every player has such trophy room, wih HD video of your "fastest lap" or when you slayed a dragon in Lair, then a lot of the PSN's bandwidth will be dedicated to those pointless, bloated trophy rooms. I think people will soon realize why its free, lag lag lag. It may be okay at first (like 1 million PS3 owners), but if PS3 every gets remotely as succesfull as PS2 and sells over 30 million, with that many people taking advantage of the "free" network, mark my words LAG LAG LAG.
Jake @ Mar 8th 2007 4:40PM
Josiah,
The 360 had easily more going for it in March 06' than the PS3 does in March 07'. Not that I am trying to encourage your use of a Sony handicap to make the system look less pathetic compared to 360, but I must argue anyways because I'm bored at work.
The 360 launched with PGR3, which is exclusive and rated higher than all PS3 games. Oblivion was out, which is rated higher than all PS3 games. GRAW was out and is rated higher than all PS3 games. COD2 was out and is rated higher than all PS3 games. I am basing ratings on metareview scores, which are pretty fair because they average every rating from every source. Links are at the bottom of my rant.
Currently, Blue Dragon (unreleased in US), Gears of War, and Burnout Revenge are also out and rated higher than all PS3 games.
This concept that the PS3 launch and first few months were better than the 360 is a farce. Had the 360 stalled its launch an additional year, it would have kicked even more PS3 arse. The 360's 1st year was better than the PS3's 1st year, and so will its second and third. I will have had 3 years of solid 360 gaming before the PS3 even has a chance to catch up. I'll get a PS3, but it won't be for a while it appears.
You don't have to defend Sony. The PS3 will get its games. You just have to accept the fact that it will take longer than the 360 did, despite launching a full year late.
And honestly, I didn't even mention DOA4, Condemned, Kameo, PDZ, and FNR3. Granted, they weren't the best, but they were unique in their forms on the 360 and were better than alot of the exclusive stuff that PS3 has out.
Just face it, the PS3 is obviously a huge disappointment so far. The 360 is kicking its arse game-wise, badly. Oh, but if you discount all the 360's shooters, everything that came out in the last year, all the arcade junk, and anything that had another version on PC or last gen, the two platforms are about the same. The 360 doesn't need any excuses. It has million sellers, 90+'ers, great features (online especially), and a lot in the pipeline. It IS the shiznit. And despite my strong MS love, I really am not a fanboy. I just call them like I sees them.

Looks rather impressive. Sony Home looks like it might be interesting to non-conventional game players and could attract some people. I know I'm beginning to think the PS3 isn't as worthless. Hopefully they'll continue adding interesting new features to the PS3 because if the trend continues, it might finally be worth it to me.
Vidikron @ Mar 8th 2007 4:42PM
LOL... I thought it looked pretty cool. If this was something Nintendo was doing the vast majority of the whiners here would be praising this. But since it's Sony... whatever.
Marty @ Mar 8th 2007 4:43PM
I'm sorry, but this just doesn't look that great to me. Who wants to spend time walking a virtual character around some micro-transaction-filled world just to see their achievements? What one can do on a 360 in 5 seconds will take 1-2 minutes on a PS3. Idiotic, at best.
Ninegauger @ Mar 8th 2007 4:45PM
I think I prefer the little achievement icons to 3D trophies and Miis to the Home avatars which lack any semblance of style whatsoever, but at least they put some actual effort into their shameless copying this time, but do people really want 3D meeting grounds, lobbies etc... I guess we'll see.
cheeja @ Mar 8th 2007 6:01PM
I think that the Hall of Fame and Home in general will be pretty lacluster for the first 6 months to a year. Until Sony starts selling more systems and developers start creating more games there will be little need for Home and Hall of Fame. As a PS3 owner I look forward to the future of Home, as long as Sony is willing to stick with it.

like people have been sayiing this is FULL FLUFF. i dont even really care about the 360's achievements, it is nice to see what people have while i'm about to play them (i.e gears) if someone has the serious achievement i at least know they aren't gonna just be a pushover.
this is ridiculous, i know it appeals to some people but goddamn this is pure waste of my time... no thanks sony.
Leobebes @ Mar 8th 2007 5:08PM
I like the fact that PS3 is trying, it has definitely caught my attention, but what everyone here is forgetting the main reason xbox live is so popular its because it is considered the icing on the cake, an afterthought, or the cherry on top. Microsoft had no idea their achievement system would take off the way it did. It is not the main feature that drives the xbox 360 but nice little bonus that gamers can do in their off time. I like what Sony is trying to do, but again it looks like it would take away from my gaming experience. If they are trying to attempt their own version of a myspace community they will fail miserably, MySpace is popular because its free and does not take $600 to socially network on the web, hardcore gamers really are not into creating "relationships" they just want to go in there beat the hell out of you and leave and if they like your gaming style you'll be added as a friend (which in gamer speak means online acquaintance to game with on a later date). Good try Sony but maybe its trying too hard.
kevin @ Mar 8th 2007 5:09PM
talk about desperation on you fanboys. you will try to smash anything the company you dont like try's to do. I really do feel sad for you all.

I'm a proud Wii owner, but these little things are make systems better. (ie channels in the Wii). I think it's a great idea and it's another reason for people to consider the PS3... I especially like the the video part (how u can save video of ur fav moments and put them with ur trophies)
Phil @ Mar 8th 2007 5:10PM
PS3 does not have a SINGLE game in the 90s on metacritic (links on post 25 by Jake).
RFOM and Motorstorm have fallen short of the hype.
This feature, while it looks pretty cool, is not a new "exclusive" game that could be a system seller.
Hopefully Killzone 2 will match the hype, otherwise the PS3 will not be around for the "ten years" that Sony execs would have you believe.
DBX00 @ Mar 8th 2007 5:12PM
You guys are silly...I'm leaving work now and I'll be going home to enjoy the following:
1) Tekken 5 DR in 1080p
2) Resistance Fall of Man
3) Virtual Fighter 5
4) Motorstorm (I've got to pick it up from the store)
You guys can keep trying to take jabs at all the other systems, but you really should just spend the time playing your games or talking about what's coming out on all the systems. Btw, I can't wait for God of War 2 next week, even though it is a PS2 title. Sony is doing a good job with Playstation Home and LittleBigPlanet to push user created content to the next level. These are just two software titles and hopefully only the beginning. Like any other software, some people will love it, some people will hate it. Get over yourself; you aren't hurting anyone if you don't like the PS3. However, you're kinding yourself if you don't recognize the diversity and quantity of the titles coming out between now and August.
Mr Khan @ Mar 8th 2007 5:12PM
This seems a bit over-the-top
I figured trophies would be just, like, a wall of your character's room, not an entire gallery
Tone it down a bit, Sony, you have something that could be excellent, don't fuck it up by overloading it with pomp and unnecessary fripperies...
Agent MOO @ Mar 8th 2007 5:14PM
Wow, it's like I'm really looking at a screen!
Zamfir @ Mar 8th 2007 5:21PM
Wow! Looks cool to me. Sure beats the static 360 achievements. I'm really curious to try this out. One of the reasons I bought a PS3 was because of it's multi functionality I use my console as my main media center for tunes and so on. With Home it looks like I can listen to my tunes from my virtual apartment where I can chat with friends at the same time. The arcade games, and movie playback is nice too. Of course, this is just a sneak preview, I'd love to see how this evolves over time.
Geo @ Mar 8th 2007 5:35PM
It sounded cooler in words than it looks in video. This is probably the worst aspect of all the home stuff I heard about. And it is sad that sony has to copy successful aspects of their competitors rather than set the standard for something new.
Jon-Angelo @ Mar 8th 2007 5:40PM
Please Sony make this work. If it's a download than most people might not even bother, Home should be installed on every new PS3 rather than a optional download. I know a lot of casual gamers who won't even bother simply because it might take a while to download.
Vince UK @ Mar 8th 2007 5:51PM
Sony has set the standard here, everything else now looks stale and old hat, it's innovations like PS home that's gonna pull'em in, despite the sad cases waving protests banners out front.
Vidikron @ Mar 8th 2007 6:02PM
Guys... the fact there is a 3D gallery doesn't automatically exclude having a scrollable list of achievements too. I don't know if there is one or not, but it seem that half the comments here are griping about gallery being to complicated. The two concepts are not mutually exclusive and you shouldn't automatically assume that a list doesn't exist.
Just had to point that out.
