New Mario Galaxy (Wii) trailer as shown at GDC
93
GameTrailers has posted the new Mario Galaxy trailer shown during Miyamoto's keynote of a keynote address today (read: not really a press event). That's some decent blurring for two GameCubes duct tapped together. But alas, it's definitely not "playing with power." Galaxy was vaguely confirmed for a release "this year." Holiday season is a sure bet.

Well, it looks just like Mario 64.

Looks a lot like Mario 64, which is a very good thing. The trailers make my head spin, but I bet the upside-down-walking-on-a-small-planet will be a lot less confusing when you are controlling it.

Mario is THE MAN!!
I have no idea how this game will work in actual practice, but I'll trust the guys at big N to make it all work. Mario Sunshine rocked and New Super Mario Bros. was sweet bliss..

I wish they'd show something that wasn't almost all black. I think I'd get tired of the constant darkness of the horizon.
I'm sure I'll get this game, but so far I'm not wowed.

Hehe, I agree the Camera looks like it can get a little crazy. Though, I have to give it to them, the camera control looks great, you can always see everything, just all the wobbling from planet to planet does numbers on my mind. I'd like to see an actual level play through from beginning to end instead of a bunch of flying from planet to planet.
Looks like it'll be a good Mario game, Nintendo seems to be setting themselves up for another well selling holiday season.

i immediately thought of Mario 64 also... and even though thats an awesome game... this trailer made me wonder "what the hell is going on here" HAHA.
i'm not totally sold on this yet... and i love mario games... add to that there's no real mention of how the wii controller will be used to control mario through all this which scares the bowser out of me.
i dont know... im still in the air.

Yes, this trailer is making my head spin because it looks so freaking amazing. I really really love the 360/upsidedown/disoriented feel of the whole thing. I hope it makes my brain work out puzzles in a new way. If Galaxy looks like this now since its last showing, I wonder what Metroid looks like.

Well, mario needs about 3 or 4 buttons to control him normally, so that is no problem. I remember reading something (matt C. blog, maybe?) where he said that the aiming would be used to interact with a ton of things. Im all over this.
It does look like mario 64 (one of the best games ever IMO), but how could a 3d mario not look like it? Sunshine looked like it too, just with a squirtgun backpack.

Omega - here's an idea then: IGNORE NINTENDO! See how easy that is? 250 dollars isn't going to suddenly jump out of your wallet and make you purchase a Wii, so, get over it.
On topic:
I agree with Geo, it's kind of hard not to make a 3D Mario game that doesn't look like Mario 64, unless perhaps, Miyamoto went crazy and threw Mario into a GTA-esque sandbox game heh. I'm not really impressed with the graphics either (at least the technical side of it), but the art and style is a win for me.
I'll purchase this on day one, and either hate it or love it. I can't wait.

for those questioning how it will take advantage of the wii's controller, have a look at the previous clips of this game shown several months ago. tjhey should be on youtube. the parts where mario is floating in midair you can see a crosshair being aimed at the stars he is floating towards. it doesnt happen terribly often in this trailer, but i remember one a while ago that focused on it.

Wow I just crapped myself watching that video. It's the first I've seen since the E3 one, and holy crap it's everything I was hoping it would become. It even had a water level, so it's not all outer space stuff. I think this is going to blow Twilight Princess away.

i smell a nintendo fanboy. how about looking at the other "big" games out. madden for example. holy shit they've been doin the same gameplay for almost as long as mario, at least mario's been changin it up once in a while.
PS: just because they continue old characters doesnt mean they arent making new ones. IE: animal crossing, nintendogs, etc.(if you think the games i listed are stupid you obviously havent tried them. both are very addicting experiences imo)

The pointer will be used to control various parts of the environment, click and drag objects into marios range
Alter your environment
Everything else will be kind of, well, normal, you use A to jump, forget what B is, shake the nunchuck to make Mario do a spin attack
I don't get how people get tired of the same characters since SNES, such characters lend nostalgia appeal, which drags you in to the gameplay, which 9/10 of the time is excellent
And this game is truly an example of Wii's graphical capabilities, you're going to see some graphical muscle here...

How the hell does this look like Sunshine? That was on a tropical island, where much of the gameplay centered around squirting water.
The controls mixed with the 360 galaxy concept already makes this completely different from Sunshine and even M64.
Still, that doesn't mean it won't be frustratingly annoying in any way. After Sunshine, not sure how I feel about future 3D Mario games. But after New Super Mario on DS, I can't wait for Super Paper Mario!

I don't understand how people can hate on Mario Sunshine so much, especially for the camera controls. I loved the camera. I could put it anywhere I wanted. There were only 1 or 2 situations where it was annoying.
In any case, I can't wait for this game and MP3. But MP3 better have multiplayer. Heads will roll, otherwise.

Well, I'm not really impressed with the graphics, but the gameplay looks like it could be good. I like the small 3D objects in that space area. Reminds of the small moon levels in Ratchet & Clank... I always liked those levels.

t3nguman, play Mario 64, or Sunshine then you will no longer be ignorant. it's that simple. It's like a buddy of mine was saying he just didn't see what the big deal with Zelda was...then he confessed he never played a Zelda game. Ignorance at it's finest.
Any gamer would recognize why Mario games are worth paying attention to. Anyone else who makes judgment simply by a video is only interested in half of the "Video Game". So if you choose to ignore the game part, does that make one a Videoer? :P

@26 Then don't buy it, but what did you expect out of a Mario game? Mario games have to maintain a certain flair, or else they wouldn't be Mario games. For example; Nintendo couldn't just arm Mario with a rocket launcher (a la Ratchet and Clank) and make it a shooter, then it would lose all of the aspects of what makes a Mario game fun to certain people: platforming.
Some people like it, some people don't. Some think they've grown too old for it, some think they never will. If you want a different Mario game than what you're used to then try out Super Paper Mario when it comes out.
If you don't like Mario games and never will, then you shouldn't care what Nintendo does with Mario or why people buy Mario games.

every one keeps talking about how their tired of seeing mario in this or mario doing that. Here's the reality, mario is to nintendo as mickey mouse is to disney. You can proab count the number of shitty mario games on 4 fingers!! and i mean shitty as in gameplay. Whether you like mario's off shoot games or not the fact is they are well put together games, not half assed shite. That's why the majority of peolpe still like mario! Look at sonic, the rash of bad games he's been in has tarnished his apperance. so people don't look forward to his games anymore.
What gets me too is when people say things like "another 3d mario game!? give me abreak!" Mario has only been in 3 count'em 3 fully 3d platform games since the n64. Yet people have no problem with games like ratchet & clank, sly copper, jak&daxter, prince of persia etc which all have been in 3 or more sequels and offerd very little improvement over the other, just more of the same and on one platform!! it's okay if you don't like mario, but don't bring the nonsense.....

I really thought there was nothing left they could do with the franchise. This game actually looks really awesome. I don't even really like mario games to begin with. I like Nintendo but Mario get cheese ball after a while. It is nice to see them breathe some fresh air into the series. I don't see the M64 comparison really. I mean of course it resmbles it but the graphics are clearly better. Maybe get an HD trailer or something a little less pixelated (but couldn't be true HD now could it LOL!). It looks promising and I hope its a huge game with lots of worlds/levels. Definitely a different idea then sunshine. For the dude above that said there is no mention of how the motion controls will work, there is plenty of info from E3 that briefly describes some of this.

But i also believe Nintendo has the most zealous haters of the set too.
Nintendo haters seem to be some of the most vocal and set-in-their-ways group out there.
I bet if Halo had been a Nintendo series, most of the commenters in this thread would be ready to say it sucks
Nintendo haters don't care about the games, they just like shitting on the brand

Sony will take them in a few weeks anyways where they're always successful and only fanboys think they can lose.

You people are very stupid. Go to www.1up.com and watch the video in GOOD quality before you talk. This game has much better graphics then anything last gen. It also is significantly better looking then Zelda: TP.
And if you don't like Mario, or Nintendo- go away. This was here for Nintendo fans, you are not wanted.
Waste your time somewhere else.
Nintendo is THE best publisher in the world. They have an AMAZING track record, and based on that, you cant even say this game will be bad. You are all just haters. Don't hate cause SONY cant make good games. There internal studios SUCK. Microsoft too. They all have to license there games out to other studios. Mario is in the Tokyo studio. Nintendo knows how to make their own games. (Zelda was made there too.)
If you don't like Mario or Nintendo, go to the ps3 or 360 fan boy pages. You are annoying.
