These stats are from gamers who are dedicated enough to read a gaming blog and vote on an poll.

There's probably more PS3 owners than these polls suggest, but if so, they must be more casual gamers who don't keep up with videogame news blogs.

I can't imagine many informed gamers wanting a PS3 any time soon.

thank you #47

you said it perfectly! i personally hate that stupid excuse more than most gaming remarks about the systems. if the ps3 had come out a year ago the fanboys wouldnt use the "well, its been out a year so its doing better" remark. they would use the "no, its not cause it been out a year longer, its cause its better" remark. same with wii.

to accuse a system of jumping the gun just to hit the market faster, after your consoel was delayed months, and luanched with the same basic hardware as far as power goes is pathetic.

if anything MS is a year AHEAD of everyone else. mostly because they launched they built a system that was so good that a year later, against huge competition, it is still MORE than holding its own.

the been out a year longer is such a bad excuse i could just keep going on about it. if thats the case the ps3/wii should have blown it away with their extra year of development. the fact that they arnt is showing more and more just how much of a LAME EXCUSE it is.

In other words, of the poll responders, 14409 owned Xbox 360s, 12542 owned Wiis, and only 3812 owned PS3s. OF COURSE less people played PS3 than the other systems. This poll is completely predictable, and based on bad methods.

It would have been more accurate to have one poll that asked which of the three systems people played the most, and even *more* accurate to do a real poll where people were first asked which of the three systems they owned, and *then* which of the three they played the most. These data would have been tied together, so you could see how many people who owned all three systems played each system more than the others.

As it is, these results mean pretty much nothing. I'd imagine that many who said they played Wii more than anything else own only a Wii, and many who played 360 most own only a 360.

Ok, now that you undermined the results and gave various reason why the 360 got better results, can you explain why you wasted everyone's time by making on vote on something that means $h!t?

well I am one person who plays a Wii more, despite my room mate's 360 sitting right there... All i can say is what do you expect this poll to be like? honestly in a year we will see how things level off, it is too early in two of the systems lifes to say.

Honestly if the Wii had been out a year and hadd SSBB out by now I think the table would turn a little, as it is the PS3 has an absolutely horrible line minus one game I see the Wii has one really good game, and several minigame like titles (some good, most bad), but the 360 by now has enough large games out to consume that much more time. That is probably why I play the Wii more though, I have been trying to play games less to well study and stuff.

I'm not as surprised by the Xbox360's positive numbers in this poll as I am by the absolutely pathetic numbers for the PS3.

While I certainly understand the pricing, lack of games, etc that influence the overall lack of PS3 sales, I really expected to see higher numbers than these from within this community...a community of hard-core gamers.

I own both systems (no Wii, no interest in inferior hardware) and my 360 gets vitrually ALL the play.

FYI - MLB2K7 is SICK!!

The results of these polls are completely invalid. Statistics 101 Joystiq: surveys must be taken from a random sample. Any survey that is voluntary, especially ones that are on the Internet are subject to bias and extreme responses. Learn some bloody math before you start doing polls.

"Surely that doesn't mean fewer unbridled fanboys, especially for a Nintendo console..."

Well, to be fair, only the most obsessed fanboys participate in the flame wars, so it hardly reflects on the state of the community.

What about PC? I put more game time into that than my NES, SNES, Wii, GBA, NDS, PS2, and X360 combined.

See, i play 360 more.. because I know gaming means more then graphics and processors. I don't give a rats ass about the casual gaming crowd, or sales numbers, or silly little polls. I'm no hardware company's corperate schill. When it comes time for me to sit down and play a game, I'm playing for my own fun and personal enjoyment. PS2 is currently getting the least play time, but then i've been playing the hell out of that console for 4+ years now.

Wii is in second place, because Zelda TP is amazing, and Sonic is fun. But, yes, i'll admit 360 is at the top, due to downloadable demos, XBLA content, Still playing Oblivion, rented Crack Down, haven't finished RB6, Ridge Racer 6, Gears of War, Viva Pinata,... And it's got more power up time beyond the games due to Xbox video marketplace... grabbed a bunch of content from Comedy Central's stand up section.

This poll is hardly a be-all-end-all of the console war, it's like this website, a fun little, game related diversion. You are reading this in a "hmm that's interesting" way.. not supposed to be refrence for an offical report.

You're going to buy what best suits you. Do you want "fun" titles like Mario and Elebits or do you want more "serious" games like Gears of War. The road diverges first in this manner*, then it comes down to price and brand loyalty. People who want to play Halo 3 are probably going to buy a 360. None of them are "better", they all have their own purpose. It's simply a matter of taste from that point.**

Arguing about how to rank your three next-gen systems is a bit above my economic standing at this point seeing that I am in the thick of university for the next few years and thus am completely broke.

Wii=250 + Xbox=300 + PS3=500 = USD1050, that's not factoring in games and accessories or that you'd want the more expensive versions of each system. Anyone with all three has some very generous relatives or works quite a bit. (Kudos to the 50 hour a week guy, I could never do that.)

* of course all three systems have varying types of games, but each are predisposed to push forward a certain style of games.

** unless you just care about graphics, in which case I wouldn't consider you to be a gamer.

I'd like a recount on the PLAYSTATION 3 votes after Home comes out. I know for one that all my time will be spent in the virtual world of the PS3 as soon as it's launched.

has anyone noticed how shit the Wii is? Honestly rubbish grafix and crappola games. Worst. System. Ever. Yeah Dan, Home is gonna be way, way the coolness. Imagine all the things you will do with it!

Like Home is going to make a world of difference for the PS3. Hackers are going to intervene and trash the site. A virtual world of imaginary violence, becoming a hang out for no-lifers. As for the Wii? with no online game support any time soon and its last-gen game releases and GC hardware, it's possible that the PS2 might outlive it too.

Or maybe it is, because of all the Sony bashing that is going on at Joystiq, a lot of PS3 owners now get their gaming news from elsewhere. I know I read Joystiq a whole lot less than I used to (I never even noticed there was a PS3 poll up) because of the constant bashing, not only by the commenters but also the Joystiq editors (insert random article with ‘PS3 grill’ picture even though it’s not PS3-specific news here). After a while it gets *really* tiresome.

Since I got my Wii the 360 has been collecting dust.

I guess that makes me not-so-hardcore but I could care less. VC is the greatest thing since sliced bread. I'll pick fun over polygoncounting any day.

Since we got the Wii at launch, the 360 has been terribly neglected. It did spring back to life this week with the new DDR, but other than that, is only on a few days a month.
I don't care to be online with any console, so that's never been a selling feature for me.
Household gaming order here:
DS
Wii
360
PSP

They truly should have had a poll for PS2 as well. I think that would give a better idea of what people are actually playing.

As for the results themselves, they see, pretty accurate.
I think that most people who are playing their Wii alot are doing so in games like Wiisports and Warioware. Both are great party games and I know that I have, on my own, logged countless hours on WiiSports. It is pure undiluted replay value (at least for me). Also, the VC may be quietly sucking up a lot of people's time.

Those who are playing their 360s alot are more likely to be playing a single player game or, very likely, playing online. The established 360 library, as has been mentioned likely accounts for the disparity.

As for the PS3, those treults are expected, but I get the feeling that many sony fans (and many many more non-sony fans) are busy with their PS2s. Speaking of games that are "undiluted raplay value", PS2 still has that in spades with stuff like Guitar Hero. Also, certain genres, such as traditional RPGs, that are not well represented in next-gen consoles yet, are still strong PS2 (FFXII, Rogue Galaxy, to name more recent releases)

With that said, I've been playing mostly DS and PC (I started playing Civ 4 again, and now I can't stop). These polls, aside from being necessarily skewed and purely unscientific, do not encompass everything that is being played. Not even close.
