I doubt Microsoft will drop the core system.

The core system isn't too useful in the first year when mostly hardcore gamers are buying the systems. However, once they drop the price, the core system will start to appeal to families and casual gamers. Current PS2 sales illustrate the size of the budget market. The core system will allow Microsoft to tap into that budget market sooner.

It isn't that the PS3 doesn't have a single good game. It is just that its library lags behind the 360 so badly it is somewhat laughable at this point.

The PS3 has less highly critically acclaimed titles in its first 5 months than the 360 did in its first 5, despite having an extra year to prepare. That is why "fanboys" and the media and blogs everywhere are knocking the PS3 so badly.

As long as it uses the cooler 65nm-based CPU, I will be buying it. The newer processor is what I've been holding out for.

Hmmm... there may be an official drop in price. Fact: German discounters like Saturn already do sell the Premium for 299,00 EUR.

they probably wont intigrate HD DVD internally at this point only because microsoft doesnt really care about the format war and they will wait until there is a clear winner before fully committing.

and they will probably do what mike said. drop both current versions by $100. which is simply brilliant.

with $470 giving you infinitally more bang for your buck than a ps3 right now. $300 for the premium which is a REALLY good deal. and the core at $200 would give MS a great position against the wii.

so effectively if all above^^^^ happens microsoft is looking to corner the market. which is why i like MS. you guys say they monopolise. but they actually draw plans out for years and make the right moves to get the edge on the competition.

it IS quite the feat when you can effectively compete against 2 companies at opposite ends of the price/feature line. GO MS!!!

I don't see May. Fry's stores just received new, massive pallets of 360s. Each store must have over 100 of them. I can't see them bringing out Zephyr with the channel still stuffed. Large retailers like Fry's and BB will demand (and get) rebates from MS for each unit they're sitting on when the switchover happens, so they'll want to drain the channel somewhat before switching.

Plus, I think they'd wait for 65nm for Zephyr and a price drop, which would be June at the very earliest from what I understand.

I bought an Xbox for KoTOR. Of the 5 games I have for the Xbox, 2 of them are Bioware, and a third is KoTOR 2. Ironically, nary a Halo game has touched that console, and probably never will.

If Bioware came out with their next RPG on the Super Famicom...it'd be hard, but I'd probably find some way to pick it up. *shrug* I'd like to see a price drop, certainly...and that price drop will make the difference between Core and Premium purchases on my part.

Note to EA and other game development companies...you produce quality product, people will buy consoles to play a single game. Maybe I'm insane in this, but I'm not alone, either.

If microsoft drops the premium xbox 360 from $399 to $299 I will be a first time Xbox owner!!

A black Xbox 360, what I wanted from the get-go. Personally, I think they should eliminate the Core system, especially if they are going to have more than 2 units on the shelves.

I'll believe it when I see this in stores. Otherwise this is FUD intended to discourage people from buying a 360 because something "better" is rumored to be out by some rumored date in the near future. 65nm cpus were not expected to be released until later this year (3q or 4q), not May 2007.

Why do people insist on Having An HDMI port...It doesnt do any good for ps3 and it wont do any good for 360 With the 1080p support i saw some differnce when i got a 1080p vs 1080i but i doubt seriously based on stats and bandwith numbers that anyone will truely benefit enough from an hdmi port

What's the deal? Do you want to carry around your 360 with you? Who in their right mind would PREFER to have the blazing hot power-brick inside the console? In my mind, having the brick on the outside is a logical design choice. Mine sits on the floor behind the entertainment center, slightly propped up against the wall.

I would really love to play Motorstorm, but not enuff to shell out over $700 for.

I can indirectly confirm this. A week ago, prices for the XBox360 Premium dropped to 290..300 Euro here in Germany. A few Ebay dealers and online shops have it available for this price, while most others still try to get 350..400 Euros.

Premium Pro? Bah! Why not wait until the Premium Ultra Mega Max-Spec Type-R is released?
