Black Xbox 360 rumor is staying alive

Hopefully Microsoft will sell the bigger HD seperatley for those of us who don't want to pay for another console. I don't know about anybody else, but my HD is getting pretty full from game downloads, like Oblivion, not to mention the TV showd they offer. And if a 20 GB HD is a 100 bucks, I shudder to think what the 120 HD is gonna cost. Either way, my wallet will be peeing itself in mortal terror and the rent check will bounce if this is officially announced.

With a bricked 360, I have mixed feelings about this. First off, I love the idea of a decreased price for the Premium bundle, but I still have no reason to believe the market needs or really wants a 'PS3-priced' 360.
If Microsoft was going to release this bundle, it'd be an explanation of why we haven't heard news about a larger removable HDD..(because people would probably rather buy it instead of a whole new system.)

All I care about is whether or not we can trade our current prem. systems for this box.

I suppose a much lower failure rate would also be nice.

Throw in an HD DVD drive and I'm sold. Other wise I can wait for the price of this to drop.

i have wished for a black 360 with a black controller...and (well the controller i may be doing myself) this is my answer!

now if only the hd-dvd drive would be included i would be sold like a crackwhore getting free crack...except...it wouldnt really be free though.........dammit.

o and for them people looking to buy the 120 gi hard drive ,,,,, theres a hack out atm where you can use any harddrive with the 360!! well it has to be 20 gig cause of the key .....but with the new 120 drive ,,,,, we will be able to hook up any 120 harddrive ^_^ YEYEYEYEYEYEY

The black box is tight. They shoulda brought this one out first...I still think I'll wait for the Halo 3 edition...what? Does ANYONE doubt that MS will capitalize on the H3 cash cow and bring one out next year?

I also agree that the black box looks great, but mostly due to it being different rather than inherently better in black. Had it released as black first and then released as white a year and a half later, people would be saying "it should have been white first."

If the rumour is true, then it may give the 360 the new push it needs since the PS3 and Wii have hit the shelves. Also, I have no doubt the 120gig will be sold separately.

Microsoft will react to the market but they first want to be as profitable as possible. They are milking the current 360 until the sales level justifies a new (black,65mm,120gig,hdmi,etc.) model(s). They don't want the PS3 to win the monthly sales race in the USA (just imagine the Sony Fanboy parade)so I predict that May 1st is just a guess and the real factor will be PS3 sales compared to the current 360. If it gets to close - boom - black is back!!

I just hope this will also include built in Wi-fi, never heard this mentioned but it seems like the wii and ps3 have made this seem like it should be a standard next-gen feature. While they're at it how about a trayless disc door. Nothing says the black 360 has to look like the dev units. And all this for the $400, would be great as well. $300 for the 20 gigger white model. If it has to sell for the previosly mentioned $479 then the least they could do is throw in Gears with it.

COUNT ME IN!!! I'll be waiting in line with my just received repaired 360! Give me HDMI, 120 Gig HD and (I Hope) built in HD DVD!! If MS does this by the time PS3 goes live in Europe, MS will truly kick the POS3's arse! There would be NO reason to get a PS3. By the way, I had a PS3 for 3 weeks and returned it. No rumble, USB tether for charging (negates wireless), NO GAMES (resiance was OK, but not gears, not even close to Halo) and Blu-ray did not blow me away. My DVD's playing on my HD DVD looked just as good. I really hope MS does this now 360!

I think this could work against Microsoft and the 360 in public/media perception. It depends on how they handle it. If they put this out there at the price of the PS3 or even more than that or heck, even close to that price, they might get a backlash from a lot of people. And others will have waited for this so they can slam the 360 for being just as much as the PS3 now and still not have all the features the PS3 does (ie blue ray, built in wireless, ect)
They also should deal with the hard drive pricing. The 20 GB should drop in price to about 40 bucks in all honesty. But the 120 GB should not be over 100 bucks. I dont see how it would cost that much to make a hard drive. For the sake of those who currently own a 360, and even better yet, for those who DONT OWN one YET, there needs to be some changes to the hard drive price fast. Especially if they come out with that 120 GB model.
I dont think they will offer the chance to trade our current 360's in as they shouldnt. But I do think that the prices need to stay roughly the same as the current models. Then there should be a slight price drop to the premium model.
I just feel that Microsoft needs to do all it can, while staying loyal to its loyal fan base and future owners, to keep an eye out on the PS3 and adapt any way it actually can. I think in time the PS3 will be something to be feared. Sooner or later, the games will come that people have been waiting for. That 'Home' thing might actually sway some people when it comes out in the fall also, though I have no idea why because it seems pretty queer and lame to me.

I want a hard drive kit that includes an upgradeable storage unit (NOT just 120GB) to install larger drives later and a transfer/backup kit that lets me pump my 360 data to a PC, swap the hard drive, then restore.

I've already screwed up my old Compaq this week by deleting the only backup I had around just before it refused to boot, so not having a backup of my 360 is staring to make me very nervous.

If piracy-prevention is keeping me from what I want, all that does is make me yearn for the high seas...

Don't be an idiot, if Microsoft did officially say they were launching a new better system a few months away, it would completely halt sales for 2 months. That is massive amounts of systems lost. Do you see software companies announcing months in advance they are going to be dropping the price of a game?

Why would you trade in your current 360? I want one of these, but as an addition to my current console. It would look awesome in my living room. Then I could actually use the 120G of space to watch movies and tv shows. Right now none of that is of any use to me because of the space issue on the drive.

If it has a built in HD-DVD drive, and if they make it QUIETER... I'd upgrade. HDMI is nice but not worth upgrading for, and I still have plenty of room on my drive. I don't give a rat's ass what color the silly thing is...

i predict that you won't see an official announcement on an updated 360, black or otherwise until stock levels of the current models decrease. microsoft will want to sell as much of the old stock as they can before shipping new units to retailers.

so, when you start seeing just one or maybe no original 360s on the shelf, then you will get your official announcement.

To everyone claiming that releasing an 'updated' 360 is a bad move and will alienate loyal customers:
Microsoft employs qualified Market Analysts; you are not one of them.
You are a fanboy who cannot tolerate the existence of an xbox better than you currently own. At worst you will whine a lot and continue to buy games. At best you will whine a lot and buy a new black 360.

I'll believe it when I see it. I'd rather they not put wifi in the 360 but instead drop the price on the add on by 60% (and make it 11n compatible or upgradeable).

You guys saying it should have a built-in HD-DVD drive don't understand what that would entail - among other things, a price that would put it up around the PS3 mark.

I agree with number 19, this is completly BS. microsoft is banking off the 360 and everything there is for the 360. There are not going to have a price drop anytime soon and if they do release a 120gb hard drive, the price would be extremly high, why u may ask. Because people will go and buy it no matter the price. and if i wanted a black 360 ill just get some spray paint

i already painted my 360 fully black with white led's and matching controllers. the only reason i would buy the new version would be hdmi and the bigger HDD (thats how you abbreviate hard drive not HD) the wifi doesn't intrest me cuz of the lag and low speeds. i would like the hd-dvd internal but i HIGHLY doubt it'll happen

I don't see it happening until they introduce the new 65mm chips in them which last i heard was still in development

i just hope they do bring out a bigger HDD, cuz i believe this will be the key for hackers to be able the id the files needed to upgrade to bigger HDD without having to buy M$ insanely overpriced HDD. who ever said you can add another HDD is right BUT not to use directly with the 360, you can only transfer music files and games saves or something like that, not sure really

@32 there was a hack out to hook any 20 gig drive to your 360 .....you just have to copy KEYS from your xbox360 drive

I still think the new xbox comin out will cost the same as the per one does now.......
