Zelda to make online debut on DS

Zelda co-creator Eiji Aonuma (pictured) confirmed in an interview with Game Informer on Friday that Phantom Hourglass will feature an online multi-player mode. Without disclosing any deets, Aonuma simply replied "Yes" when asked if the game would support "online battles over the Nintendo Wi-Fi connection." Strangely, GI failed to press the issue for more information. Note to self: If/when Nintendo ever confirms online multiplayer for Wii in an interview with Joystiq, just say "okay" and move on to the next question.

OMG! What! Online! Nintendo????????
I wonder how you would battle.
Aex @ Mar 13th 2007 1:03PM
I must admit the multiplayer modes look to be fun, but I'm just so disappointed in the control method for the single player mode :( It makes me a sad panda.
Slaziman @ Mar 13th 2007 1:08PM
Maybe if they did a Four Swords kind of thing... ZOMG. Just no friend codes, okay?

"Strangely, GI failed to press the issue for more information."
They may have simply omitted the part where the question was asked, and a "no comment" was given as an answer.
Or, the may have also been told the information, but due to an NDA on the topic, were not allowed to print the details until a specified future point in time.

Aex, keep the faith, man. Maybe there will be an option to use the d-pad for movement. *keeps fingers crossed*

I'm pretty sure they already said that you can use the d-pad if you want.

Just when my beautiful series gave me the option to swing my arm and kill a giant fiery Goron...she gives me the option to kill people all over the world!
I love you, Zelda... :)

In older development interviews for Zelda they stated they were working on bring Four Swords to the DS. Undoubtedly, the this tur(or only the multi was added) into Phantom Hourglass DS.

Heh, I have a feeling that before the interview, they were told to ask that.
Fine with me, though. No complaints.

Online? Maybe I'd be more enthusiastic if the DS online system wasn't such a mess. Oh the hours I've spent on Mario Kart DS waiting for players to be found. And even when on "FRIENDS" it would take a milenium to find them and even longer to cut-off the search and just let us play. But cool, never the less.
Trixie @ Mar 13th 2007 3:09PM
Just bring it out already!
Seroth @ Mar 13th 2007 3:15PM
What's with this speculation about what the multiplayer mode might be? I'm pretty sure that it'll be the 1 vs. 1 mode that was demoed at GDC...which didn't look to interesting to me.
MysticX @ Mar 13th 2007 7:34PM
Online Zelda? Man that´s great news. Hopefully the next online game will be Super Mario Bros. in co-op mode.
MysteriousMusician @ Mar 13th 2007 7:34PM
Sweet, maybe now I don't have to fight with friends to be Link in SSB.

Looks shitface to me.
