Army of Two footage: funny or not?
27
Since Army of Two was first announced by EA, we've been intrigued. Seeing an original IP emerge from a company that heavily capitalizes on franchises and sequels was refreshing. Early descriptions of the game emphasized teamwork and cooperative play. Then the first trailer showed up, showing off something that looked essentially like a buddy comedy. Still, the co-op elements looked solid. Now EA has released another "funny" trailer for the game, again showcasing some of the co-op elements in the game. We have to point out though, the idea that a car door can stop bullets was thoroughly debunked by MythBusters. The game looks pretty decent though. Here's hoping the humor stays funny and doesn't become annoying.

Yeah, the trailers so far have been pretty damn funny. I'm hoping the entire game will be like this and that the gameplay will actually be good.

Co-Op looks brilliant. But I wish that when someone else is hosting, that you can still make progress on your own campaign and earn your own achievements (unlike Gears of War, Crackdown etc.)

I'm not saying it does't look good, cause it does, but isn't EA also coming out with another game almost exactly like this one? Battlefield: Bad Company or something like that?

This is second "funny" trailer I've seen this week, along with BF: Bad Company. Although I liked the original teaser for Ao2 more, this could be cool. That one guy's voice is pretty annoying tho...
By the way, 6, that's the laziest troll I've seen all day.

You've got some issues, Jas.
I just don't want this game to be corny. When the first trailer was released, I was like, "Hell ya!". Then the cheesy dialog version came out, and I said, "Hell no!" and focused on the BF: Bad Company game. Now I'm... I dunno. Fence sitting, as it were.

I liked it. Made me want the game more.
Anyway what about the car door from an armoured car? Wouldn't that work?

@9 it would, but I would imagine it'd be incredibly difficult, if not impossible, to lift.
I watched it again, the guy's voice still annoys me, but the teamwork aspect seems neat and it looks good. I still think that first teaser was badass...

This game will be awsome. "Who you think you are MacGyver!" Can't wait for this I loved it when I saw the screen in EGM.

@ 5, you can earn an achievement while joining a hosted game, if you beat the whole game as dom you get an achievement, which is only accomplished by joining a hosted game.

The tone for the trailer hopefully will set the tone for the rest of the game. I really liked the EGM cover story last august when they talked about what happens when you play only with the AI. I think that if they get it right and the AI isnt stupid it may actually be more fun to play with the computer than with a friend. It may just canabalize its calling to be a great Co-Op game by the interactions with the computer you will get while you play through the game. And I think this one was a little less corny than BF Bad Company. Maybe EA is change for the better this time.

There needs to be more humor in games. I, for one, am looking forward to this.

Gotta agree with the Perfect Strangers reference. I prefer my shooters without the Three Stooges gags, personally.

i think it looks awesome. the dialog is for sure added for effect and not like that in the real game. that would be insanely distracting from what you and your teammate are trying to communicate.
and about the car door. as much as using a bullet-proof car door would work, yes it would be difficult, but let's also consider the fact that HE RIPPED THE DOOR OFF WITH HIS BARE HANDS. that just takes the cake right there.
and i love co-op gameplay, so if this works its going to be awesome. just hope for tight controls...

Hi-Llarious.
Co-Oppy goodness is always fun/funny... I still remember my first Halo Co-Op. Hillarity definately ensued.

Think there will be comedy when the MGS4 trailer comes out on marketplace?
Oh and it will....you can quote me on it. ;)

This game looks amazing. I love Co-Op in games and its a feature that more and more developers are latching on to. I think Co-Op is truly "Next-Gen." Don't get me wrong, I love me some single player (i.e. Condemned), but Co-Op is where its at (GoW, RSV, MRVL:UA).
It's just too bad this game got pushed back until November. It has to compete with Halo 3 and I think it's going to lose out on a lot fan-base because of it. Here's to hoping they either get it out in August or they push it back to February '08 or later.

When i first heard of Army of Two i was very intrigued. Since i saw the trailers, however, my opinions have changed. From what i've seen from the trailers... it looks annoying.

Wow, actually. I didn't care much for this game. But the trailer's making me rethink it. I've always wanted more humour in games, but I still have the feeling the comedy is only there for the trailer's sake.

I like that it was funny, and I think the co-op multiplayer would be a blast, but the realism has me a little concerned, eh? For example, not only does he rip the car door off barehanded, but he got shot in the head several times, and shrugged it off, saying "Ow." In what world is THAT possible? Are they fighting with BB guns? I much prefer the grittier side of things, with a touch of realism.
Yes, I like my video game entertainment experience to have a touch of realism.
