Life-sized Link winner
Two months ago we told you about a contest by Nintendo of Canada where fans could win a life-sized Link. Today we received an email from Jared Tan, who won the statue and received it a couple weeks ago in two large boxes.Tan didn't have to pay for shipping like the contest rules originally stated. We were totally wondering how much it would cost to ship Link. He says he's leaving Link in the living room for now. Tan wasn't just lucky that he won the statue, he's lucky that he even found out that he won the statue. The original email he received about the contest ended up going to his junk mail -- the only thing that tipped him off was that the junk mail prize was a little odd. All we can say is congrats!

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! hope he doesn't ever plan on having a girl over at his house.
kittenlicker @ Mar 14th 2007 8:14PM
who needs a girl when you have a statue of link;)
stev @ Mar 14th 2007 8:20PM
It's the left-handed version of Link. What an awesome fixture for a "game room"!
Eric @ Mar 14th 2007 8:22PM
Too bad its a terrible Link model...
Jb @ Mar 14th 2007 8:44PM
im sure its better than your link model douche
Matt @ Mar 14th 2007 8:41PM
#1 just about sums it up for Nintendo fans...
Matt @ Mar 14th 2007 9:07PM
i'm sure i'm the proud non-owner of a link model. but i do have a life. that puts me one-up on you.
OhJustSomeRandomGuy @ Mar 14th 2007 9:06PM
So how long before "jtan07" is found auctioning this off on eBay?
Colin @ Mar 15th 2007 12:44PM
looks like he should have won some shoes instead
bootsielon @ Mar 14th 2007 9:16PM
Matt, you can have a life, have a link statue and a girlfriend. But of course, someone as insecure as you wouldn't be able to.
AoE @ Mar 14th 2007 9:18PM
@Matt, I call bullshit. If you had a life you wouldn't be commenting on Joystiq.
Jon C. @ Mar 15th 2007 6:35PM
Anyone else bothered by the fact that he's barefoot?
Matt @ Mar 14th 2007 9:24PM
you call bullshit because i take time out of my day to read blogs and make fun of idiots? sure thing man.
Nintendo fanboys assemble against such blasphemy!
AoE @ Mar 14th 2007 9:41PM
How is dude an idiot? He didn't sculpt it, he won it. I'm sure it takes less time/effort to fill out an entry form than it does to "read blogs and make fun of idiots." ;)
Defenestrator2.0 @ Mar 14th 2007 9:49PM
A winner is you!
Matt @ Mar 14th 2007 10:08PM
well, you see, the fact that he actually WANTED to win that thing says something.
Durandel @ Mar 14th 2007 10:24PM
Matt.. if you want to be an ass, go do it somewhere else. This post was NOT about Nintendo fans, it was about someone winning a giant Link statue. If you don't like Nintendo, Zelda games or Link, go make a site about it. Otherwise, stop commenting here.
NintendoFanbot @ Mar 14th 2007 10:30PM
Lol, Matt's really trying to start something.
Congrats to Jared though.
NintendoFanbot @ Mar 14th 2007 10:32PM
Lol, Matt's really trying to start something.
Congrats to Jared anyways. I wish I had a decent +60" piece of gaming memorabilia.
NintendoFanbot @ Mar 14th 2007 10:32PM
Eh. Post glitch. Sorry.
Amanda @ Mar 14th 2007 10:35PM
I would maybe kill to have a statue like this in my house. Matt, you would maybe make my list...(j/k)
Anyway, I'm female, have a degree, employed (at a real salary job with "supervisor" in my title), married, and happy to be a gamer.
My husband and I spent one of our anniversaries at a Soul Calibur tournament. We have Zelda and Resident Evil figures on just about every shelf.
My question is, are you this happy with who you are? Not if you are slamming a lucky winner.
Matt @ Mar 14th 2007 10:45PM
mission accomplished.
let's see. i did start something. and that was my whole point. i am perfectly happy with who i am. and i'm pretty sure winning a giant link statue does make you a fan, so this post WAS about nintendo fans.
just look at how heated everyone gets over nothing. it's almost funny. but mostly sad.
Durandel @ Mar 14th 2007 10:51PM
If you keep this up you'll end up like summercamp.
That is, owned.
Steve @ Mar 14th 2007 10:57PM
Let's come up with captions for the photo. Here's mine:
How to be a winner and a loser at the same time.
DISCLAIMER: I would definitely love winning one of those.
zmaster123 @ Mar 14th 2007 11:05PM
I agree with what matt said and I stand by every word he said.
Jmoravetz @ Mar 14th 2007 11:07PM
Guess someone's(Matt) pastor didn't hug him enough when he was young. Don't worry! It's not too late! You're 12, 13 tops right?
Grog @ Mar 14th 2007 11:02PM
I would love to win something like this. Not because I want a giant statue, but just for the thrill of winning. It would be a great novelty item, though I'm sure that my wife wouldn't let it last a week in the house.
And then I make a couple hundred off eBay. =)
GD86 @ Mar 14th 2007 11:13PM
Now all we need is a life sized Mario, Samus, and Pikachu statue and we can start life sized Super Smash Brothers.
Matt @ Mar 14th 2007 11:17PM
@25
i've never had a pastor. and if i did, i sure as hell wouldn't let him hug me... ever. not sure what world you are living in friend.
i almost wish i was 12, for two reasons really.
#1: the link statue might actually seem somewhat cool (but probably not. if it was Sonic, it would be a whole different story).
and #2: it would make you look pretty stupid if that's the best you could come up with.
BPM @ Mar 14th 2007 11:28PM
WHY do you want to start something, Matt? Do you enjoy being an asshole?
Really, I don't see how that's any fun. If you ask me, want to cause trouble is a sign of having no life. If you had a life, you'd be doing that instead of annoying others.
Really, I just feel sorry for people like you, Matt. You have nothing better to do with your time than annoy others. May you soon find a real purpose in life.
Keif @ Mar 14th 2007 11:35PM
matt's just a little cunt that has no life, which is why he starts fights with people pretending he has a life.
and really no one with a fucking life starts fights on the internet, cuase that makes you just as lame as a fanboy
Rubang B @ Mar 14th 2007 11:42PM
Haha, Matt just revealed that when he was 12 he liked Sonic more than Zelda. I guess he's still mad about the whole "Sonic dying and no longer being relevant" thing, while Zelda games still sell like crack. Case closed.
@Durandel, Matt is not half as awesome as summercamp. Matt's just an ass. At least summercamp is a ridiculous spectacle that we all enjoy during his trolling.
Lord Chako @ Mar 14th 2007 11:58PM
Imagine coming home to a dark house, drunk, and seeing that in your living room. You'd be scared shitless.
I think steve said it best.
I wouldn't mind winning it, only so I could hock it on ebay.
This is no better than having a life size statue of Spock in your living room.
michael h. @ Mar 14th 2007 11:54PM
i could've sworn the title of this blog at first glance was life-sized link wiener
Matt @ Mar 14th 2007 11:56PM
so if you think i'm an ass, and you apparently are disregarding everything i say, why do you feel its necessary to continually respond? that's the best part. your minds are so feeble that one comment can completely change the topic of an entire thread.
do you see my point?
because one person doesn't like Nintendo and decides to express an opinion about it, people go up in arms. "how could you not like Nintendo?" "you must be an idiot for not liking Nintendo!" "do you not realize the awesome life-changing power that is Nintendo?"
it works both ways. because people like Nintendo, they think they are automatically better then anyone who likes a different console (or PC for that matter).
it's almost comical that you categorize me as a lame fanboy, but your vehement opposition to my position does nothing more then to categorize you as just that, a fanboy.
i'll respond just as long as you will.
give it a rest people.
Lord Chako @ Mar 15th 2007 12:00AM
Keif,
Do you kiss your mother with that mouth?
Keif @ Mar 15th 2007 12:03AM
matt, I dont think you even read your own posts.
Its not an argument if why or why you dont like nintendo. The whole fucking point here was you made fun of him for having a statue he won. No one asked or cared if you like nintendo, its just you are being an ass to people that own stuff they like.
That is why you are retarded.
Xian! @ Mar 15th 2007 12:16AM
God, you people are melodramatic. Joystiq needs to patent its comments section as "The Time Machine that only goes back to junior high."
Congratulations, Jared. I signed up for that prize myself; whenever I enter such contests, I inevitably wonder if it's rigged and NOBODY wins. So I'm glad a real person did. I hope you do something great with it.
When I signed up I thought, "If I win I'll auction it off and donate the proceeds to charity." But I didn't win, so I'll never know if I was just bullshitting myself. Perhaps that's for the best.
Sukato @ Mar 15th 2007 12:12AM
God, you're all insane. Just ignore the douche and he'll shut up. Commenting on what he says over and over only gives him more fodder to "Make fun of". He obviously has to always have the last word, so be the bigger man/woman and let him have it.
That statue is pretty sweet, though. Lucky dude.
Bruno @ Mar 15th 2007 12:24AM
Anyone else notice the Zelda shirt he's wearing?
LongshotX @ Mar 15th 2007 1:38AM
Since my comment got deleted I will post and be very blunt: That statue is gay as hell. I hope I didn't offend any Homofanboys and made them cry.
Keif @ Mar 15th 2007 1:46AM
I dont think you made any one cry longshotx , you just proved that you are an idiot by useing gay and homo as slander.
funny how people that ahte things the most are always really dumb
bootsielon @ Mar 15th 2007 1:59AM
holy shit, Matt's the best fed troll ever... I'm ashamed of being guilty of that now.
Anyhow, Matt, the fact that you have to give us an explanation of how satisfying your life is or if whatever claims we make against you are wrong proves that you have no life.
There you go, just like summercamp... Owned.
vR @ Mar 15th 2007 2:07AM
Matt claims to have a life, but Joystiq tracks comment time... and Matt is posting every 20-30 minutes. That'll do, pig. That'll do...
Rubang B @ Mar 15th 2007 3:11AM
Ok, so here's the deal. If I had life-sized statues of Link, Samus, Mario, and Pikachu, after I was done doing my live action Smash Bros. battles, I would have parties with them.
Anybody here seen The Lonely Guy? (1984 movie starring Steve Martin and Charles Grodin)
onree @ Mar 15th 2007 3:41AM
Lol! Jared, my man, you're a famous douche! I'm screencapping this shit and I'm going to print it out and save it for our High School reunion
Matt @ Mar 15th 2007 11:00AM
@41
you can thank joystiq for barring my ability to respond to you fools last night. so the fact that i'm commenting every 20-30 minutes in response means i have no life? tell me, exactly what should i be doing at 10 at night on a wednesday to qualify myself as having a life? good try though.
not to mention that my comment spurred over 40 comments on a post that would have normally gotten like 3. and that you commented after me at 2 AM. what life do you have? other then thinking you own people and then failing at it? or perhaps referencing other joystiq posters that i've never heard of because you spend so much time on this board?
next, you obviously weren't paying attention at all. you just keep seeing the worm and biting the hook. i never gave an explanation of having a life. i said i did, but i never explained it in detail. rather, i chose to point out that you are all mindless zombies when it comes to talking about Nintendo. and my point is proven over and over again. i never said anything blatantly offensive. my first post was rather harmless, then you all decided to run with it.
and i'm not real sure why you think calling me a troll is so incredibly bad? should i really care what you think? if i did, i would have never started posting here to begin with.
@42. good job referencing Shrek. maybe you could think of something for youself sometime?
start thinking people.
Nintendo_Tom64 @ Mar 15th 2007 12:10PM
Nice...though it would probably be best to hide things when guests come round...or at least disguise it as some elaborate hat-rack.
Ook @ Mar 15th 2007 12:58PM
You are aware, Matt, that it's actually from 'Babe', not Shrek. And I think that the use was intentional - vR wasn't trying to pretend he'd thought of it.
"start thinking"
P.S. I took your quote intentionally. Just in case you get confused again...
Matt @ Mar 15th 2007 2:44PM
@ 48
how does that make it any better?
