i_luv- Yeah, I get it, like I said I've done plenty of physics work (not by choice). Yada yada yada, 4 dimensions and you can never travel the speed of light in theory and you're aging less when you're driving your car then when you're sitting on your ass and blah blah blah, I get it. I don't come to joystiq to get into a physics debate or talk about String Theory, I come here to make fun of Krazy Ken and reference Captain Planet, is that too much to ask?

"Personally, I come here to watch sheppy get mind-fucked by ShrimpRapist."

Forgive my squirrelly ignorance but how exactly was I mind fucked? I mean, I knew what was going on, immediately called him out on it, and generally informed others of the issue. I mean, it's not like he walked up behind me and said "Hey, you dropped some air out of your pocket" to see if I would look. It was rather pathetic, actually.

And then he just quoted movies for some posts.

Wow, intellectual battleground right there.

And, incidently, the giant crab was really Louie Anderson in a Shao Kahn mask.

Myke you are not aging less when you drive a car. You are aging the same however the faster you move relative to another object you both experience time at seperate rates so the world around you ages faster and faster the faster you go. Also the stronger the gravitational field is where you are the slower time seems to pass on an object that is traveling the same velocity(direction and speed)but with a lesser gravitional pull.

It would be really interesting to see such things implemented into a game in an interactive way but it won't happen.

@Iridium,

I know, this is just so awesome. It was all because of summercamp, he started it all. Maybe posters like shrimprapist tried to emulate him.

As for the ps3, I think multiple SKUs was a bad idea anyway. I wouldn't be suprised if I walked into Gamestop and not see any 20gig Playstation 3s one day.

I have yet to see a single 20GB model anywhere. Every store has loads of 60GB models. If the decision really is up to the retailer, then Sony is probably giving them one hell of a sales pitch to NOT get 20GB models; maybe the store's profit margin is lower?

Eh, I won't even consider a PS3 until the premium version costs less than the baseline version does today.

*Violater: "I hate when people talk about things as if they know. Firmware updates can be contained in game disks as well as downloaded from the PSN."

The point is that the system has been out for months, and they're releasing patch after patch. Consoles aren't supposed to be PCs. You're supposed to just plug them in and they work.

*rijimbo: "If they already have over 1200 PS2 games playable, why would they keep the list to themselves until launch?"

Because the emulator is still in development. Any information prematurely released is going to be interpreted as yet another Sony Lie(TM), whether it deserves to be or not.

I would argue then that Sony are happy to continue shooting themselves in the foot over the issue of PS3 backwards compatibility.

There have been so many people cancelling their preorders here in the UK already. Consumers want that functionality out of the box, they don't want to have to rely on shaky information about firmware updates.

For every one that wants to cancel, there are five more chomping at the bit to get one of these machines. I'd like to see something that substantiates your claims. Until that happens, bullshit on your claim.

The PS3 is going to completely sell out during the European launch just like it did in the US.

As a UK gamer and consumer I am anxious at the final release of the PS3 and what it means in the great console war that’s now raging.

I find it ludicrous l of obvious Sony fan boys getting all up tight over media reporting the European PS3 problems. The Sony backwards compatibility issue is just one part of a long list of issues us Europeans have with Sony. Please do not forget that Sony delayed the launch of the PSP in Europe twice putting it back nearly a year because demand in the US and Japan was so strong. Now we have the launch of the PS3 after once again Sony put it back for Europe and put the price up on the European version when it’s a lesser product than the Japanese or US versions due to the lack of the Emotion Engine.

So what does all this say to the consumer? It says as far as Sony is concerned Europeans can be fleeced like rich 2nd class consumers idiots. I know that the MS Xbox 360 also has had backwards compatibility issues but at least MS was upfront about this long before release and MS did not build backwards compatibility in for specific geographic regions and remove it from others. If Sony had built the PS3 to be multi region and had not put their foot down on grey imports of PS3 to Europe then European consumers would have brought their PS3’s from Japan, saved a bundle of cash and had a better machine and therefore would not have had a bone to pick with Sony.

I have discussed the console wars with many, many, many gamers here in the UK and while the majority agree with me a small group of Sony fan boys still holds out but ironically every single one of the has failed to put down a deposit to pre-order a PS3. In fact I do not know of one single person who has pre-ordered a PS3. Every single one of them is waiting for the price to drop. I have been around my local town centre and noticed that the signs in shop fronts asking consumers to come in and put down a deposit for a guaranteed PS3 on launch date. These signs are still on display in the shop fronts 3+ weeks later and the deposit amount has been lowered which all points towards poor presale orders. I have even asked in two shops and one openly admitted that after 1 week of the sign being up they had only received one pre-sale order. The other shop said they had great pre-sales orders but this is the shop that has had the sign outside the longest and dropped the pre-sale deposit amount the most.

Looking at sales figures for Japan and the US and the current pre-sales ordering in the UK this does not bode well for Sony. So the six million dollar question is what Sony will do about it. If Sony do not drop the price then sales will be poor and Sony will take for ever to re-cooperate the development costs and the production costs until numbers produced bring this cost down. Why produce millions of units if they are not selling and just sitting on shop shelves? I personally hope Sony learn that Europeans should not be treated like rich cash cows who will accept anything Sony throw at them and Sony learn that they need to drop the price and take massive losses for a few years until production costs come down.

Interesting that you have your finger on the pulse as you are reporting the opposite of all the trade magazines. Obviously you know better since you talk to all those people and that's a good indicator of reality.

As for Europeans importing from Japan, fat chance. There's none available to be had from Japan, so your theory falls apart before it gets rolling. In the US, everybody "in forums" are claiming that there are many to be had everywhere, yet you don't run across any stores that can keep them in stock for more than a couple of hours. In other words, don't believe the hype from the message boards, they're filled with anti-Sony zealots, Nintendoesn't fanboys and Microshaft fanboys that want to rationalize that they didn't choose the loser.

Ahhh, time and space....

Sorry to break it to all you kiddies but TIME DOESN'T EXIST... Time was 'invented' by man to simplify and organize our lives. Ancient person wanted to meet other ancient person by waters edge, but the eternal 'when' crops up. 'WHEN' the sun is the highest. We base everything on the 'PATTERNING' of the rotation of the earth/sun. And the other problem is that it has become so INGRAINED in our language, that the 'time' idea is almost unescapable by now.. Past tense, present tense etc etc...

Think about it deeply....

There is only NOW... NOW is NOW... Yes, the molecules/atoms are moving/changing all the 'TIME' (note the ingrained word and I have to use it to describe this). Things are 'moving' in orbits, through space (even these bodies). Things grow and die. But there is NO TIME. Only now.

Yes, I'm insane, but it doesn't make the above any less true. I sent a large detailed paper to Stephen Hawking, but never heard back from his 'students'.

If you delve deeply enough into this, you'll come to understand it easier.

Peace out kiddies....

(MindF..K over and out)...

@Kevin D

We are linear temporal entities. A non-linear temporal entity would have no need for a definition of time. A non-linear temporal being would exist and "be" in all times at once seeing past, present and future as one. The purest definition of omnipresence in a temporal sense. True omnipresence would also require the ability to exist in all space at once as well as existing in all time.

The definition of time is due to the very essence of our being. It is a necessity, not a convenience.

There is obviously more than just "now" otherwise you would have no recollection of what came before now or be able to consider what may come to pass after now. You're not insane, you just don't appear to comprehend it, which is a good reason for Hawking to not respond.
