The Wii's cpu is made on the same 90nm wafers as the Cell. How does that make it easier. Now Cell is moving to 65nm. I could easily see Broadway moving to that as well but why should Nintendo have to announce it? "Hi-tech" is not Nintendo's game here. The increased production they claim to be ramping up could be because they are moving to 65nm wafers as well.

Also, Hollywood, the Wii's gpu, is twice as big as the Flipper (the GC's gpu). How can you explain that? It could be the addition of a physics processor or more texture memory...or both...

Anyway, those 2 things are the big hold up for production...but the cpu issue should be solved with a move to 65nm design...

The wii is more sopshicated then people would like to admit. It's componets have been enginnered into a low power model. It has completes backwards comptability which unfortently means it cannot use the wifi for online but hey the online gamecube games had offline modes but you also have no lan.

It has builtin wifi a slot loading drive system that takes into two different disc sizes a first for slot loading drives.

Taking into account the high quality control Nintendo practices it's not surprising they can only make a Million units a month. I suspect Nintendo was thinking the wii would be the like in it's slow initial buildup with it largely being bought by gamers then the huge surgeup in sales and production numbers once the nongamer populace had been prepped and ready.

I think the DS may have weakened the nongamer resistance to the wii so you would get a lot of sales but wii sports may have been the barrier shatterer to getting the nongamer to buy the wii.

Also the wii price , bad press by the PS3 with the killing etc as well as the PS3 price, bad press and gamer feeling that occured with the xbox 360 launch history six months later also helped shatter the nongamer and gamer resistance to buying the system.

Heck gamers were saying in droves you don't need to preorder the wii there will be enough the nongamers won't go to it till a few months have passed. It's going to take a while before they show any interest.

How wrong we were about that!!!!
