Guitar Hero II surfs Xbox 360 crowd on April 3
Activision has grabbed the nearest microphone and screeched out the official release date for the Xbox 360's Guitar Hero II. "Pay attention you motherfrackers,
drop the keyboards PC hackers,
Guitar Hero II drops April three,
get out your wallets these frets ain't free! Woooowrgh!"
You'll likely be able to obtain much better tunes than that lyrical atrocity later on, thanks to this version's ability to download a "consistent stream of new tracks" from Xbox Live. RedOctane's Dusty Welch notes in the press release that the online component "is going to provide an incredible opportunity for our fans to extend the gameplay experience, and we have ambitious ideas to continue to fully support these efforts." Sadly, said ambitious ideas don't include online multiplayer just yet.

Already purchased, just waiting on the release date now....
NeverSage @ Mar 16th 2007 4:00PM
I might as well just let certain publishers have access to my bank account. There's little question I'll be buying this game.

You know, if the guitar is wireless, and since wireless 360 controllers can now be used for PC, does it mean that the guitar can be used on PC as well? That'd be kickass.
Buckshot @ Mar 16th 2007 4:11PM
No news here, that's been known for a month or so already. No word on additional controllers available at launch yet? Anyone?

sadly because ms is not letting 3rd parties make wirless compnents for the 360 the guitar is not wireless. but it still could be used on a pc i belive since its usb
Buckshot @ Mar 16th 2007 4:12PM
Guitar is not wireless, but that would be cool nanoalpha.
Neebs @ Mar 16th 2007 4:30PM
Do you WANT to play GH online? Seriously.
Kizzle @ Mar 16th 2007 4:44PM
Sure, I'd love to play GH2 online if they could get the gameplay satisfactory. I have my doubts about whether that is possible due to the precision timing that is required, but we'll see.
We'll get a wireless controller - probably sooner than later. We just have to wait for them to stop gouging us for the wired ones first.
Mark Zell @ Mar 16th 2007 5:11PM
#6, a corporate email sent to EBs said that spare guitars will be in short order to start off so there will be no pre-orders for them. So yeah, that's that I guess.

the online component "is going to provide an incredible opportunity for us to fill our pockets by trying to charge money for songs that should have been on the game disc, and we have ambitious ideas to continue to ask for money for microtransactions."
Farseer @ Mar 16th 2007 5:06PM
I agree with Kizzle - even the tiniest bit of lag would ruin the multiplayer experience. They've got local multiplayer nailed down so tightly and the overall game is fantastic, so I wouldn't expect them to try something new and offer online multiplayer. Why fix what's not broken, huh?
syco @ Mar 16th 2007 5:07PM
Screw online multiplayer, the ability to download new tracks is a HUGE selling point for me! I swear I get closer and closer to getting a 360 every day.
I just wish I could buy a version with a hard drive but that could only do 480i for $300. People can dream...

co-op online would be hard obviously, but how hard could it be to slap together head to head online mode with XBL Vision Camera support? that would sell MS a few cameras too i bet.
Tim @ Mar 16th 2007 7:31PM
Speaking of Vision, face mapping yourself as your rock star? And maybe building up a library of faces (family and friends) for when they're playing, and when they're not playing they can be the drummers etc. I guess that's a bit much to ask for though.
Mr Khan @ Mar 16th 2007 8:18PM
I don't see how lag could be a problem
If something like Metroid Prime Hunters can be put online on the DS virtually lag-free, then certainly a game whose technical mechanics basically amount to pressing buttons in sequence could easily be done on a system as well-balanced as the 360...
Gansly @ Mar 16th 2007 9:05PM
God some people here are pathetic.
These people:
"HAHAA VF5 is shit, I don't care if it lags, at least include online, SONy can't match XBOX!"
Are probably the same people who are singing this tune:
"Guitar Hero 2 has no online multiplayer (the one game of the two which would actually kick ass)? Well that's ok, I can finally understand that a little lag would ruin this game. Oh but not the very technical frame based VF5. That's still Sony's fault because they had nothing to do with the development.
[Insert pitiful excuse which makes it ok because im an xbot]"
(360 version won't have online either =O)
Kyouryuu @ Mar 16th 2007 11:34PM
I don't quite understand the on-line problem. I thought DDR Universe had on-line multiplayer and that must surely be a trickier problem since Guitar Hero is binary (you either hit the note or you don't).
Ocho @ Mar 31st 2007 4:31PM
Any chance that someone will make a PS2-to-360 adaptor for the guitar? I realize it wouldn't have the new features of the X-plorer, but hell, how many toy guitars do they expect me to own?
