Excitebike, Splatterhouse, Beyond Oasis join Virtual Console line-up
Another Virtual Console Monday rears its ugly, beginning-of-the-week head, but the tiny sparkle of joy that is the Virtual Console offers some respite. Heading up the list of games this week is the NES classic Excitebike (500 Wii Points), the spiritual predecessor to Excite Truck. No motion-sensitive controls here, just daredevil racing and stunts in glorious 8-bit color. You can even design your own tracks! As promised, both Splatterhouse and Beyond Oasis are also available to download. Splatterhouse (600 Wii Points) is a side-scrolling brawler originally for the TurboGrafx16. This was the first game to ever receive a parental advisory disclaimer, though by today's standards it seems relatively meek. After the carnage is complete, the Sega Genesis action/adventure game Beyond Oasis (800 Wii Points) should cool your adrenal glands with a dose of lush 16-bit graphics.
Vectorman is still on-target for a VC release this month, so expect it to head up next week's list.

The Oasis game for the Saturn was pure bliss. This one should be very good then (even better maybe?)

Beyond Oasis, huh?
Well, it's not Landstalker, but it will do.

Yeah. Thanks for the update Joystiq. I only had to get this off of Wikipedia HOURS ago. Lame.

Will this version of Excitebike allow you to save custom tracks? I know my cartridge didn't. If so, is that not a change to the original?

Beyond Oasis is a great Zelda-like action RPG. I remember playing it on my Sega Nomad (the "portable" Genesis).

Oh man, Beyond Oasis! That game brings back alot of good memories.
Insta-Download for me!

I checked this morning at noon EST and I only saw Splatterhouse and Beyond Oasis. Excitebike was not on there, much to my disappointment. I have 800 Wii Points just waiting to be used.

I'm picking up Splatterhouse, but what's the deal with Beyond Oasis? I've never heard of it. Somebody sell me on it.
Crono @ Mar 19th 2007 5:21PM
Looks a little like Secret of Mana. But I've never played it.

It's pretty much a high-quality Zelda clone from the creators of Streets of Rage (well, the composer's company, at least). I believe it's considered one of the Genesis' greats. It was followed up by sequel, Legend of Oasis (or Story of Thor 2, this game being Story of Thor 1) on the Sega Saturn.
Other than that, look on YouTube, I know there's gotta be at least ONE video on there (I was watching it earlier today).

At Kevin,
Excitebike is there, under NES games. For some reason it hasn't shown up in the New Release games, as of the last time I checked.
