...it's a stunt.

if thats your feeling then you just waisted my time, you asked for proof so I gave you undeniable video evidence of such a thing existing.

The only other thing that would serve you would be time travel and that's clearly not possible

Do you not believe the sky is blue either even if you see it? And even if you claim that that's something they made up your just crazy... or right, and still it doesn't matter, because there it is and the credibility of the Nintendo video is higher than yours.

I'm getting this vibe that Miyamoto's shrugging off the competition merely because he thinks that Miis are the greatest thing since sliced bread.

If Shiggy's going to base his entire system around semi-customizable cartoon characters that are only interesting for less than five minutes, then I'll gladly pass on Nintendo consoles for a while.

You apparently haven't touched a Wii Remote.

Wow, the SDF is practically cumming in their pants over this. If it weren't so pathetic, it'd be funny.

"A caricature creation system may not have been done explicitly on consoles before, but we still wouldn't call it an entirely new concept. Nor would we give the same honor to Home, but their integration is indeed a first for game consoles."

I *THINK* that this misses the point. I could be wrong (since we don't really know what Home will be like yet), but there doesn't appear to be anything in Home that you couldn't do on a PC. Hell, I'm sure if Sony wanted, they could make a version of it FOR the PC. It's just another crappy MMO.
By contrast, Miis are much, much more integrated into the Wii. You couldn't actually do anything with a Mii character on a PC.

In other words, Home is more like a disconnected point and Miis are more like a web...if that makes sense.

WTF interview are you people reading (Joystiq included)? He simply said Miis are different because they aren’t focused towards online applications. I don’t see a stab at Sony in that and I don’t see him claiming he invented customizable characters.

Slacker:

Too lazy to read? It'd be the part where he says that Sony's stuff isn't different and his stuff IS. That's called "taking a stab at someone".

If all he's claiming is that non-online specific avatars are his idea, then he's actually biting off EA, who has allowed you to create your own player for who knows how long, in multiple games.

Way to go Miyamoto! You can copy EA!

Have they really been working on Miis for 20 years? I know that they mean just thinking and refining the idea and such not actually working but still 20 years? It seems like such a simple idea, 20/20 hindsight I guess.

"Sidepocket, what sort of proof do you have that the mii were being thought about by Nintendo in the past?"

The compilation of videos at GDC where it was stated AND SHOWED that it had been worked on for the Famicom, there was also videos of N64DD Talent Studio/Stage Debut. Though not mentioned, I bet GameBoy Camera fits in there somewhere (Perfect Dark 64 was almost going to use it and probably Talent Studio).

Sony is using their MMO experience as a basis for Home. Nintendo is using Miis for entirely different reasons and integrating them into their games.

He's not claiming anything moreso than telling the difference.

@ juanotejano

The Wii-type program has been worked on since the Famicom but the higher-ups said that there wasn't much that could be done with them until recently.

Remember! Mii is not a game! It's a cross game avatar system that interacts with the games that are played. Nintendo can clearly develop it's own 2nd life clone based on the Miis, it just has chosen not to, yet. Also, it's quite interesting that if you play with different Miis in Wii Sports you'd actually have different advantages and handicaps, this seems quite a deep interaction to me.

Home seems like the next iteration of sims or 2nd life. Please describe what makes it so rich that it can't be duped on Wii (other than HD res).

Incase some of you fanboys haven't realized yet nintendo's all about profit. Obviously nintendo makes systems and games for the general public and not for the hardcore gamer because that's were the money's at (average or mainstream gamer of course).

Take the ds for example it outselling the psp by a wide margin. Little timmy isn't gonna want a complicated system and I'm sure his mother isn't willing to pay too much for it either.

All i'm saying is that nintendo is running low on *cough* gimmicks *cough*. Time to oil up those "innovative idea" gears ,huh, nintendo.$$$
