Capcom confirms Resident Evil Wii in 2007; unannounced games coming soon
One of the greatest and bestest third-party devs revealed some good news for Wii owners yesterday in speaking with Game|Life's Chris Kohler. First up, Capcom confirmed the release of Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles this year. The game was first announced at last year's E3 alongside the most ridiculously short, 3-second muddy video. But that's three seconds more than nothing.
In addition to confirming RE, the company said there is "at least one" unannounced Capcom game coming to Wii in 2007. Gamers can expect the unveiling within the next few weeks. Don't you just love teasers?

All good news, another developer willing to put more than "non-games" on the Wii
ackmondual @ Mar 20th 2007 3:51PM
good news for Wii indeed. If this is an exclusive, it'll almost count as 2 releases given it's a franchise of high stature. Otherwise, we still have to worry a "GC" getting pulled here (games being dev-ed for a platform only to get pulled for that platform, of which I heard GC had quite a few)
Long Live ze Wii!

RE:UC is confirmed for the Wii. However they said nothing about at least 1 more Wii game to be announced. It actually said that they have 1 more game to announce but didn't list what platform it was for.

So Link is gonna start slaying zombies, too?
Intentless @ Mar 20th 2007 4:02PM
Foreman... Umm hate to break it to you but Link has been "killing" undead including zombies for some time... Not T-virus zombies but zombies non the less...
LunarDuality @ Mar 20th 2007 6:20PM
So, the 360 is getting some extra love from the Japanese publishers...and now the Wii. Where's the PS3 love?
JodyAnthony @ Mar 20th 2007 4:07PM
come on Breath of Fire 6!

WHAT THE HELL IS THAT TEASER FOR!!!!! I don't get it.
Antonio @ Mar 20th 2007 4:31PM
I hope this "Umbrella Chronicles" game isn't confined to the same damn mansion. They've used that environment umpteen zillion times in the umpteen zillion remakes and rerelease of the original RE plus that one part of Code Veronica.
Jake @ Mar 20th 2007 4:31PM
What is Umbrella Chronicles? Is that some type of remake ala Prince of Persia, or is it a full on brand new game? Is this different from the 360 and/or PS3 Resident Evil game? Which one is supposed to be better?
I honestly have no idea. I am very confused. I though Umbrella was a collection of old Resident Evil stuff with new controls, but people seem quite excited by this new exclusive so I must be wrong. Also curious as to what this other new Capcom title is and whether or not it is an exclusive.
Todd @ Mar 20th 2007 4:41PM
That video delivers no information to me. I have no idea what's going on.
vidGuy @ Mar 20th 2007 4:43PM
@dark,
In order: Project H.A.M.M.E.R., Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles, Zelda:TP, replay of RE and TP.
and I couldnt save my game @ Mar 20th 2007 4:46PM
Ha ha, so much confusion. I love it.
@Jake: You shouldn't worry about which one is better. As long as both are good and different from each other, it's a good day to be a RE fan since we're getting two of them.
Can't wait.
bm @ Mar 20th 2007 4:48PM
"come on Breath of Fire 6!"
Hear hear. Goddammit Capcom.
Mr Khan @ Mar 20th 2007 4:52PM
@ Jake
they basically took the RE4 engine, upgraded (!) it for Wii, then selected some of the best "levels" from previous RE games, and created a new control scheme
sounds good to me, even compared to the excellence of the coming RE5
dark @ Mar 20th 2007 4:52PM
Yeah, well I can see that Zelda is on there, the other scenes could be from anywhere. You know what I'm sayin?

Slow as heck.............
Finn @ Mar 20th 2007 5:01PM
We actually don't know exactly what this game will be yet, we do know that they said they would be using the RE4 engine for their wii games, and they said months and months ago that it might be a game tieing all the different RE games together into one coherent story(we may see levels from all the games but all within this engine and I don't think they meant, the same level objectives, mabey just the same areas or something) which might actually be kinda cool.
orioncubed @ Mar 21st 2007 3:25PM
It's already been said this will pit you as returning favorites from each chapter of the story up until 4. you'll be playing as chris, and jill in the mansion, leon and claire in raccoon city, etc. its not a direct sequel but it will fill in some story holes, and hopefully be a blast to play. as for that 2nd title. PLEASE BE DEAD RISING!!!!!!!! come on capcom!
John @ Mar 24th 2007 11:00AM
Seems like every developer/publisher has a secret Wii game these days. Time for the Johnny-come-latelys to catch up!

Give me a break. You knew what I meant. It's not like the 4 zombies you fight in each Zelda game is any comparison to Resident Evil games, in which you kill zombies to the exclusion of everything else.
Jake @ Mar 20th 2007 5:23PM
Thanks for the info to anyone who posted to my question.
I'm still a bit confused as to what RE:UC will turn out to be. It sounds like it is either a new game using the RE4 engine that ties everything together or it is a remake of sorts using just the new control scheme. But, the PS3/360 (I think its multiplatform) game is simply RE5.
BPM @ Mar 20th 2007 5:35PM
Two other Capcom games were already announced for Wii:
-Devil Kings 2 (will also be on PS2)
-Treasure Island Z (exclusive)
So, there will be another game on the way to Wii, it seems.
Welcome to the party, Capcom. BYOMM (Bring your own Megaman)
Matt @ Mar 20th 2007 5:36PM
Resident Evil 4 was such a great game. I hope the Wii's controls won't make it worse. It would be nice to have the option to use the GameCube scheme again.
jan_halmes @ Mar 20th 2007 5:36PM
People have guessed that RE: Umbrella chronicles will be everything from a on rails shooter to a remake of RE 2,3, and CV all with udpated graphics and controls. We wont know for sure until the game comes out.
Personally, I know I will love this game if it uses the RE4 engine. If it uses any other engine, I'll take a wait and see additude. On rails shooters are hard to get excited about.
I'm actually most excited about the yet unnanouced game. A dumbed down port of Dead Rising would be cool, as would a new Viewtiful Joe or Mega Man game, but what I'm really hoping for it an new MMORPG for Street Fighter.
2D graphics for combat, 3D "overworld", ports to all three next gen consoles and to the PC.
It's so obivously a good idea. Capcom would really be missing out if they don't revive that once million selling franchise.
Antonio @ Mar 20th 2007 5:48PM
No offense jan_halmes, but a Street Fighter MMORPG sounds like a really BAD idea.
Capt. Castellanos @ Mar 20th 2007 7:51PM
i think jan_halmes meant street fighter OR mmorpg.
at least, i THINK so.
Revo @ Mar 20th 2007 8:08PM
From the Wikipedia article:
"According to articles from Famitsu, the game is comprised of 2 parts; a traditional Resident Evil single-player mode which takes place between the events of Resident Evil: Code Veronica X and Resident Evil 4, and an arcade-like mode in which you can play as different characters from the RE universe and play through different areas from the previous RE games such as the Spencer Mansion and RPD building."
87th @ Mar 20th 2007 9:38PM
There's much longer teaser than that.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WLtfGZWDBcI
That's 1 minute 7 seconds long. No real footage, just a lot of 1st person in a high-res Spencer Mansion.
poe8130 @ Mar 20th 2007 10:16PM
Bof 6 would be awsome way better than a new megaman.
samfish @ Mar 20th 2007 11:22PM
Personally, I'm hoping that said unannounced game is Viewtiful Joe 3.
...but I'm not crossing my fingers :/
Sly @ Mar 21st 2007 2:13AM
"the most ridiculously short, 3-second muddy video". That there says it all. No buy.
