SplitFish FragFX controller; more PC than PS3
28
SplitFish is at it again! Reminding us a little of the Phantom lapboard, the FragFX aims to deliver the accuracy of the PC's mouse and keyboard combo to the PlayStation 3 and, more specifically, your couch. The slightly awkward system promises to duplicate the entire range of PS3 input, including the motion control. The "FragChuk" (that's the nunchuk-y thing on the left above) provides "Wii-like motion sensitivity" for the PlayStation 3 console while the mouse handles all of the controller buttons and right-analog control. A wired version is scheduled to ship next month for $59.99 and a wireless Bluetooth wireless will ship "later" for $69.99.

If it is comfortable enough to use, I don't care about appearance.

Why not just use a Wii Remote instead of having it dangle, Nushio? :P
The Wii Remote can be a very accurate pointing tool, it's just that it hasn't been utilized properly in first-person games yet. >_

Oh, and that is a pretty nifty looking setup SplitFish has.
Wonder if they could be used on a PC, too...

Yeah, I need to make myself a sensor bar for my laptop... The normal one's LEDs are too far apart to be used at point-blank range.
But, hey, you provided a good reason. You get bonus points!

An abomination! A crime against controllers, keyboards and mice everywhere!
Seriously, not the prettiest periphal out there. Can you just immagine dealing with those wires on your lap? *Shudder*
And seventy bucks? Damn!
At least this brings up the possibility of RTS on that console. I really wish Microsoft would at least allow keyboards and mice to be used with their console. Even though it was a good try, BFME2 still was much less micro intensive than most RTS games. I can't immagine playing a game like Zero Hour on a controller. This type of periphal could help in that regard.
I just wish it wasn't so fugly.

Hmm... I'm so gonna try a mouse-and-nunchuk setup later. I had tried mouse-and-Wiimote (before I got the nunchuk) with GTA San Andreas before and it worked quite well. The mouse gave precision movements in one hand (including both walking direction and steering), the Wiimote offered further control in the other hand (movement control, weaponry, etc.).

Answer me this - will it feel like you are controlling an analog stick with a mouse? What I mean is, will the cursor speed be lightning quick like a kb/m setup or will it move slowly like an analog. I would imagine the game would have to be setup for this kind of thing.

Reminds me of when I used a mouse and a Microsoft Strategic Commander for FPS games. It worked pretty damn good in slower FPS's like Rainbow Six & Rogue Spear, but the distance you had to move the MS SC before it registered was too far for faster paced games so I returned it.
