Bill Gates can't play soccer games (or he's a good faker)

During a promotional event celebrating Microsoft's twentieth anniversary in Mexico, Bill Gates lost to professional Mexican soccer player Rafael Marquez 2-1 in a virtual game of soccer on the 360 (FIFA?). The game was played in front of a crowd of Microsoft employees on three jumbo trons. We bet it was thrilling. And in proper fashion, the two exchanged signed product after the match; Gates giving Marquez a 360 with wired controllers, and Marquez giving Gates a Barcelona camiseta. Yet another example of rich/famous people getting more free stuff.

I wonder if Marquez cheap shotted Bill Gates during the game like he did to Cobi Jones. Oh wait...he was winning in this game...not in 2002. Bragging rights till the Vacas come home.
tmmoore_nc @ Mar 21st 2007 3:32AM
What? Bill couldn't give him a Premium 360? I bet it didn't even have the Hard Drive.

well bill got the bad side of the bargain here... 360 for a shirt... pfft! (yes.. i'm no soccer fan! :p )
but still.. bill is a jerk for not giving marquez a wireless controller!
Uzi @ Mar 21st 2007 3:55AM
Marquez should just ebay away the signed Core 360..
save for the Elite 360
qbix @ Mar 21st 2007 3:59AM
@tmmoore_nc: Um, the hard drive goes on the other side. Also, notice the silver DVD tray? The wired controllers I don't understand but the system is clearly a Premium.
Macroy @ Mar 21st 2007 4:56AM
#4: Those aren't "wired" controllers, per se--they are connected via the Play and Charge Kit.
Wulkar @ Mar 21st 2007 6:48PM
Just because the controllers in the picture are wireless, and attached with the play and charge kit doesn't mean that bill gave him those controllers, or even that 360.
Psaakyrn @ Mar 21st 2007 6:22AM
And I don't see how anyone's getting "free" stuff. Ever heard of this amazing concept called bartering?

Maybe the placement of the console will help Gates realize the 360 runs pretty hot - it's blowing on his knees!
Jimmuy Bay @ Mar 21st 2007 7:21AM
Wow Bill Gates is lame. A painful pic indeed.

DMC4 is just one of the three titles that Microsoft was aiming to bring on over to the 360. In his dreisechzig.net blog, MS Germany product manager Boris Schneider-Johne had posted a revealing post which sparked debates far and wide. Because we don't want any room for misinterpretation, we will replicate his blog post word-for-word here. It's ultimately your decision how you will regard this bit of info:
One down, two to go - 20. Mar. 2007 um 13:57 - Kategorien Xbox 360
Devil May Cry
Final Fantasy
Metal Gear Solid
You can check our Via link below to double check for yourself. So, does this mean they're going to bring FFXIII and MGS 4: Guns of the Patriots over? Before you some of you guys start exclaiming "all your Game are belong to us" statements, don't be too quick to judge. Schneider-Johne had updated his blog post due to lots of flammatory feedback across the interwebs. Here's his addendum, read it, and read it well:
((Yes, this is just a personal checklist of franchises that I and plenty of others would like to see on Xbox 360. In no way, shape or form is that an announcement list, an internal Microsoft shopping list, a "I know more than you do" list or something like that. Somebody in an english-language forum called this "a gloating employee" and he maybe is right. And I've seen suggestions that Grand Theft Auto and Tekken should be on this list too - so your mileage will inevitably vary.))
Got it? His "shopping list" does not confirm anything. In fact, we're not even sure if this counts as a rumor because there isn't really any sound basis for any form of open-ended speculation - he declared and stamped his foot down quite clearly already: in no way, shape, or form is it an announcement. We did tag it under "Opinions and Analysis" though. Because that's the brunt of the matter here.
If anything, this is not much different from Hironobu Sakaguchi expressing his interest in bringing Final Fantasy over to the 360. We'd also like to add that Hideo Kojima himself even expressed his own thoughts of bringing MGS to the Wii. See? Developers do it all the time. Expressing one's interest in other consoles is normal. And just because someone is interested on something doesn't make that something automatically happen.

One way of getting rid of the core systems, give them away for free.
Anthony @ Mar 21st 2007 8:31AM
Tight wad's MS can only give away a core system

Most of you people (including you) are fucking retards. (Unless your joking.)
Evan @ Mar 21st 2007 8:54AM
Wired controllers are often used in demos and at trade shows, where there may be RF interference and a communication error would be embarrassing. Go to any game show, like GDC or the old E3, and you'll see lots of wired controllers connected to premium and demo 360s.
The Kidster @ Mar 21st 2007 4:50PM
They had to add to the headline ("or he's a good faker") If Mr. Harrison or Kuturagi from Sony go so far as holding the controller the wrong way; Joystiq is ALL OVER THEM like white on rice.
Bill Gates sucks; plain and simple! At least Reggie Fils Aime(nintendo) knows his product well enough to invest some time and learn the game in order to give someone some serious competition.
Bill Gates represents every 360 owner; geeks who have no concept of real gaming and fake the funk like they really do!
What a joke.
Pikachelsea @ Mar 21st 2007 10:23AM
Haha, love the awesomely dorky pic. As soon as I saw that I pictured Bill screaming "YEEEAHH!" in that nasal voice used by Jubilee in the "I'm the Juggernaut b*tch" parody. Yeah Bill, you go girl!
lessbiasedthanmost @ Mar 21st 2007 11:39AM
If Gates handed me a signed 360 I'd turn and sell it on ebay and probably end up get at least $1000 off it. Someone'd buy it...I hope.
dark @ Mar 21st 2007 2:29PM
OH MY GOOD!!! He's playing video games. What has the world turn into?
stan @ Mar 21st 2007 7:22PM
guaranteed Rafael Marquez was diving for the pen.
segajoel @ Mar 30th 2007 2:40PM
It´s a National Team Mexico Shirt, not Barcelona.
