Major Nelson: No Xbox Live security breach
Major Nelson has issued a statement dismissing recent reports that there has been a collapse in security with Xbox Live and Bungie.net. Nelson says, "Despite some recent reports and speculation, I want to reassure all of our 6 million Xbox Live members that we have looked into the situation and found no evidence of any compromise of the security of the Xbox Live Network or Bungie.net."Nelson goes on to say that there have been "isolated incidents" where users are trying to gain personal information. Microsoft is offering a PDF on how to protect yourself against identity theft. Seriously though, it's the internets, there are predators out there trying to steal your identity. Don't ever give someone your passwords or personal info.

It's happening alot with gamers trading profiles for gamerscore. People trade with unworthy people, who jack their accounts and use the credit cards, etc. MS doesn't know this because the people that call in don't say they've traded accounts for fear they would be banned. So, this is not hacking by any standards, only stupid people trying to get gamerscore.

Derka,
Read the article posted above you? it explains that it is mainly Microsoft's and Bungie's fault, that seems to show how lame customer service can get.

Allow me to say two things to those with the stolen tags
1. sorry
2. Ha-ha
well, at least PS3 owners don't have to worry about the credit card end of that stuff. And the 360 was having such a good run on good news...
Matthew Walsh @ Mar 22nd 2007 4:31AM
Convenient timing for this to come up, no? I hear some company plans to launch a console in one days time...
Jake @ Mar 22nd 2007 8:25AM
Well, this seems easy enough to fix. Just have a meeting in the customer service department.

That's a bunch of crap. I have had my Microsoft Live ID completely stolen from me and it was not from a phishing attack or social engineering. There are ARE holes in hotmail, live, and other places - the LIVE ID is used all OVER the place, its the weakest link in the chain where hackers get in.
Of course Microsoft would never admit it has had a security breach, but what does common sense tell you? Do Microsoft products ever have security issues? Hmmmm????
Matt B @ Mar 22nd 2007 11:20AM
Hey, that sucks. I'm glad i don't have to worry about it.
polar @ Mar 22nd 2007 12:46PM
My vote is for phishing.
No problems on my account.
Noshino @ Mar 22nd 2007 1:27PM
Shawn P,
That is something that Microsoft will never admit, hell, even Nelson should know that well as an insider...sucks that so many xbox ppl see him as a "WOW", it sucks to lie to the ones that follow you huh?
They should go to Clippy for some help....wait, oh...

The hacking is probably such a lie, just like people complaining about being on their 8th 360 and Microsoft claiming there isn't a "higher than usual" failure rate for the 360. Being sarcastic: before anyone jumps on me.
Good thing I have been too busy with my Wii. Haven't even played my 360 in about a month.

I read the article that thebiggameover posted and I think it's outrageous. I would like to have a member of Clan Infamous right in front of me. I would punch him righ in the jaw. Damn, these people really make me angry.
They admit to cheat and steal accounts, why MS don't ban them?
