You should also note that on the list in post 143 has only 2 RPGs in it. So FFXIII would be a blow were it to disappear from the PS3 entirely (which ain't gonna happen).

Sidenote: everyone who looked the other way on Wind Waker missed one of the three best graphical achievements of the generation.

@148

You're not the only one. I had a few friends that were outraged by Nintendo for doing that to them.

I'm still all for Nintendo, but yeah... I wish they wouldn't have done that.

Sure it was a tech demo, but to many us... it was more than that.

Don't know what all the bashing is about but I personally liked FFX. Why did everyone hate it so much? I've liked every Final Fantasy game (except X-2) but I haven't played 11 or 12. I'm definitely gonna pick up 12 as soon as I replace my dead PS2.

"You're still making no good argument for the FF remake NOT being on the PSP, why couldn't it come out later? Why couldn't they delay the game?"

Well, I suppose they could have restarted all their development from the beginning and worked on a brand new interface and engine. Of course, that just would have meant that they would have wasted a few million dollars in previous development. And they would have been basically saying that they wasted about a year of development time.

Even assuming they would have sold just as many copies on either system, simple economics says that they should continue to develop where they started, even if something with shinier graphics comes along. You could keep switching where you develop each time something with a prettier graphics chip comes along... but then you'd be rewriting your code so frequently, you're sitting on the vaporware lists with Duke Nukem Forever.

Despite what you might think, Myke, delays of several months to a year (or worse) are very bad things in software development. These result in longer development times, which mean less profits as time goes on.

As for the comment about hype... well, you did say that the Wii couldn't have a Final Fantasy game. And because the system is "geared towards the casual user." I'm still waiting to hear what prevents a complex game from appearing on the Wii. I haven't heard a single argument yet that amounts to something other than "That's what the marketing says."

wow.. what to add? Nothing left unsaid on this topic. From what I can tell, there are a lot of 360 owners out there who have been envious of Sony's exclusivity and though they trash the PS3 and PS2, they know a good game franchise when they see one.

Though they are unable to admit it. ;)

@ Phranctoast

"I find it comical that xbox fans have so little faith in MS establishing their own francises that they need to steal Sonys. Keep praying..maybe one day you'll get ratchet and clank as well."

Umm considering Final Fantasy started off to be a Nintendo franchise there STUPID PS3 FANBOY, I hardly think it's stealing. And as if Sony isn't desperate to save it's sinking ship by mimicking it's competition (motion control, guide button on controller, achievements, avatars, putting "last gen" rumble back in after finding out their competition was benefiting, etc.) And as if stupid PS3 fanboys aren't happy to have games like Ninja Gaiden and Oblivion... not to mention you want games ported over from companies like Bioware, Capcom, and Epic, etc. Don't be such a hypocrite and idiot!

SquareEnix are not a Sony subsidiary and could be convinced by MS to make an Xbox version of FFXIII. That could happen if MS thought it was a strong argument for the X360 in Japan. But is it? I'm a big fan of FF but let's admit that the series has lost impact since, say, FFVII, so is it worth for MS to buy a port? If MS could convince Square to do an exclusive X360 FF episode, that would be a different story. I bet that if an FFXIII title gets a Xbox port, that would be the "versus" action-rpg and not the main one.

Maybe Sony should release Gran Turismo 5 for X360 too, if they want to make a profit. LOL!

FFXIII would be the only reason I'd buy a PS3 after a BIG price drop. But if it goes to the 360 I'm gonna buy one instantly.

@143

Look at the data on 147. Of those top 10 PS2 games series, if you say that Square Enix goes unexclusive, only MGS2 and Gran Turismo 3 are exclusives, and MGS is questionable as well. This means that the only top-selling franchise left from the last generation for sure for Sony would be Gran Turismo, which I don't care about (Give me Mario Kart any day). Square Enix leaving would be a big blow for Sony.
