Ugh. Just a list of the most popular people. How retarded is that? Personally, I'd stick in Peter Molyneux and Will Wright (Sim City is the only thing he's ever put out that I enjoy).

The problem with Jaffe is that he didn't do anything (from what I understand) since GoW (he didn't really have to do much other than fork cash up front for GoW2, and CoryB took the reigns). Before that was Twisted Metal. Thats it, 2 great games. We'll see how Calling all cars comes along.

I personally think GoW is a much better game (in every way) than DMC (but thats just me), but I think that gameplay wise, I have to agree that Ninja G is better than GoW. But WHO CARES, all three are AWESOME.

This is calling out Reggie, and I like that. Reg, silence them with Metroid Prime 3 and Mario Galaxy. Put your gaming where your mouth is (and fix the friends codes mess).

You can hate Kojima for the dialogue, but MGS changed the industry. Ditto for Miyamoto, if Jaffe oversaw as many good games as Miyamoto it would be different, but NO ONE has touched and been part of a team that created as many great games as Miyamoto.

There is a reason we worship him.

Oh for christsake, you guys knocking this list using the American McGee comparison are morons. Next to no one "rates" American McGee highly to begin with, so he's NOT overrated.

Reggie is a PR dickhead, so he deservedly tops the list. He doesn't DO anything. It's almost not his fault that's he's "rated" so highly since Nintendo fans are the most blindly loyal of console fanbases...but he's still a scumbag. Just like Peter Moore and...uh, everyone who talks at Sony.

Not bad, Jack.

Seriously, this guy is just a moron, it's all publicity, and it's working because we're talking about it. "I have an idea, I'll take all the names that I think are the most recognizable in the gaming industry and say they're overrated, that'll get people talking!!!"

So who the fuck is this guy to begin with? What has he done worth ANYTHING in his short pathetic life? From what I can tell all he does it tell everyone else how to act. Sorry Chris, didn't know that when you were born a little halo popped out of your mama's crotch along with ya. Chris Buffa is just Hideo Kojima and Miyamoto's bowel movements duct taped together.

"Nolan Bushnell to me = Arcade gaming"

Nolan Bushnell to me = Foul thieving bastard who steals concepts from poor old men trying to sell companies on his brown box. Nolan Bushnell didn't invent arcade gaming, he fucking stole it. And to top it all off, Nolan Bushnells policies were that the game creators working under him were not allowed to get credit for their work. Only Nolan Bushnell was allowed to say "I did that at Atari, hell, I AM FUCKING ATARI!"

So go on and bow to him. Bow to your king of filth.

"John Romero-Doom, Quake "

Sorry, have to call you out on this one. THE FUCK ARE YOU SMOKING? Seriously. John Romero is about as close to overrated as someone can get. He helps on Quake and gets soooo much credit, he then gets to opportunity of a lifetime to create his own game, freely advertises that he will totally make everyone his bitch, and what did he deliver? A game so epicly poorly designed it's become the joke of the industry. I mean, hell, Superfly Johnson?! A character designed as "the last black man on Earth, so he knows little about his culture so he models himself off 1970's blackploitation films." I mean, were you aware you could miss a key item in this game and have to completely restart at roughly the 80% point? How far has Romero fallen? He's making Cell Phone games and marrying underage girls from other countries.

"Hey, dad? Can I take mom to the prom?"

Sheppy - I see what you're saying, but I don't think that makes him overrated anymore. I don't hear alot of hype around him as of recently so it's not like he's even on the radar at this point, IMO. He had a key hand in alot of great work, and then blew it. So I think he'd fit better on a list of "Farthest Fallen" than currently "Overrated", no?

I would almost agree with you, Myke, if Midway didn;t make a big deal when they signed John Romero up to help out with Gauntlet: Seven Sorrows.

In some peoples eyes, it was like "Hooray, he's finally returning!"

In John Romeros mind, he was like "You mean I no longer have to dress up as a crustacean in front of Joe's Crab Shack for a living? Hooray, I'm finally returning!"

LOL @ Sheppy

Fair enough. I know the whole story behind it. :P Though I did knock him down from King of Games to King of Arcade gaming. He was the one marketing the idea of Arcade games, while Baer pioneered the console scene. So if you want to vindicate Baer, history and the patent laws did it for him.

------------------------------

But seriously, we are in an industry of giants. We learn something from all of them, even learning from their mistakes.

@ KIZZLE

People love Reggie BECAUSE he IS "overrated". If the American fans are excited for Nintendo after every E3 since his entry then he's done his job. E3 2006 represented a STARK difference between his and Nintendo's willingness to act naturally vs. Sony's stiffness (should I dig Riiiiiiiiiidge Raaacerrrr from the grave again?).

His "overratedness" will be like a Chuck Norris joke but will never go out of style.

Peter Moore's pretty cool too. J Allard simply disappeared after Zune came out. 0_0

Actually, David Jaffe got his start creating the greatest Mickey Mouse game of all time, Mickey Mania. Moved onto Twisted Metal and Twisted Metal 2. From there, he moved onto Twisted Metal Black while trying to bring God Of War to a boil. After that, Kinetica, Downhill Domination, War Of The Monsters. Finally, he dropped GOW.

And to top it all off, he has told the press several times that he's not that good of a designer.

You're all short-sighted fools. Miyamoto may be treated as a god, but dear god, I praise him for Donkey Kong, a game which could be the single game to put the video game market it has been today. So don't cut shit that he's over-rated, he is a person never frightened to think outside the box, which none of you could even dream of doing.

Kojima's also being gipped here, let's forget MGS for the moment, that series was his mostly successful franchise; instead let's look at the cult interactive novels he's produced, you may not apperiacte their wonder because they were never released state-side, but these games alone justify his fame, let's not forget, he is someone who can turn his hand to anything, he's made police games, stealth games hell even stock trading games, this guy has got phanominal skill and you're all blind-sighting this skill by focusing only on MGS. Now go do your history and go sit in the corner.

Regie, however, I'll admit he's over hyped, but he's a legend. Someone who even though he's just a propaganda minister for Nintendo, he does it with such style that you can't help but think "Hah." even if he messes up, you forgive him, even when you don't want to. Which cannot be said for Microsoft or Sony PR guys.

CLIFFY B NEEDS TO GO AWAY NOW!!

I am so sick of seeing his face all over the net. Gears was a cool game (very overblown and somewhat shallow though) but my God, do we need to see him 3 times a week!!

He gets my vote for most over rated ever!! Cliffy, grab a one way bus ticket to somewhere far away......and stay there......

I'm still trying to figure out what the big deal is with God of War? Is it the boobies in the beginning of the first one? I mean, I've seem them in real life... I don't need digital breasts to make a game great.

I bought the first one a few weeks ago, only because every person that I talked to told me how AWESOME the game was, and how it'll change my life. I played it, and it was honestly a HUGE meh-fest. I played DMC 1/2/3... so I've played God of War.

I got about 5 hours into it, about a week and a half ago... and I've not touched the CD since. I went on to enjoying Rogue Galaxy, which is a very good game.

Moral of the story? Don't listen to the people that tell me games are amazing. (Halo/God of War/Oblivion). Rent them first. I gotta start doing that...

I don't think Reggie should be on this list because he's just PR, but either way he's still not overrated. At Pizza Hut he launched the Bigfoot Pizza and Big New Yorker, and at VH1 he was responsible for a 30% increase in ratings by targeting a younger demographic. Then the guy gets a job as Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Nintendo, and becomes President in less than 2 and a half years? This guy's magic or something. And then somehow he became a legend in the vein of Chuck Norris jokes. And he kicked asses and took names at Wii Sports while holding his pimp chalice of wine in his other hand at the GDC.

@OhJustSomeRandomGuy, comment #48:

Yes, Miyamoto DID invent the platformer. It's called Donkey Kong. 1981.
