MotorStorm gets friendlier
Last night's MotorStorm patch brought a much needed friends list to Evolution's off-road racer. A relief. And also an embarrassment. Whose call was it to put MotorStorm out there for two weeks without buddy compatibility? It may have been a minute inconvenience -- given that it was swiftly remedied -- but the haphazardness of the matter is indicative of the PlayStation Network. That's not to say Xbox Live titles aren't without their necessary patches and bug fixes; au contraire, online "updates" have become standard. But a friends list? Would enforcing some very basic PSN requirements really cost Sony its freedom?

*sigh*
We're looking at a future of rushed games people.
I for one don't like it. Who knows when a rushed game will come along and an update will corrupt save files or worse, brick systems.
The online era is upon us, and game companies think its ok to push out un finished products. Pretty weak.
I was wonderin somethin though, not that I let reviews tell me if I should buy a game or not, but what happens when patches completely make the game change(for better or for worse)? Will magazines or websites re-write their reviews?

Good point, I've heard this argument plenty of times. It's probably why most 1st party Nintendo games get delayed nowadays too. It would seem highly unnatural for me to download a patch to Twilight Princess. But then again, the game makes no use of online capabilities at all, so it wouldn't need one.
In the end, I think games need to be finished before I buy it; Just like we wouldn't turn in unfinished work to our boss.

I don't like the way Joystiq's being all biased against Sony... it just doesn't read right.
I like the idea of getting a patch. It should be done from the start but if we are going to wait for the developer to finish the product...
ggive me an early but buggy demo and patch it everyday (or fast enough schedule) and I'm good!
I'd rather get playing a buggy Halo 3, now, and get it patched until final version, than wait for it to come out later this year.

Who will be playing this in two weeks? It's not MKDS, so....no one.
DS > PS3

What the hell is with the tone of this? Sony patches a game for the better, and then the author of this chastises the PlayStation Network for it. This just screams unnecessary bias.

@9 - are you serious? This is MS fanboy HQ. Even the "news" articles are Anti-Sony.
Better researched articles, more intelligent discussion and unbiased news can be found at just about any other gaming site these days.
Joystiq has turned into something humourous and whimsical.. everyone knows it and the quality of the posts show it. No one is serious about the comments on this site and it's a flamefest evertime a new joke article goes up on this site. I come here to pour fuel on the fire. it's my afternoon laugh.
