"the death comments are unnecessary..."

So is Will Farrell, but they're oh so funny.

I'm so glad Nintendo went this route. This generation gap is ridiculous, and people like Jackie T just take advantage of it. But now the older crowd are seeing that "Hey! I get it! Kids play video games because they're fun! Not because they're training to murder people!" Who'd of thought that "kids" games would be a big step in maturing the industry.

Death comments are always funny. Besides that who cares is the elderly like the Wii. If they're grandkids asked for the Wii they'd get one regardless of the fact that they think its nice and sensible. I've had old people walk right into my store and buy a copy of Halo 2 for their grandkids , with its big ass M rating on it. Stop with this, " old people and Wii propaganda crap."

What do Wii games and a nursing home resident have in common?

They both look old and will look even older in a few years.

You'll also see older gamers who liked the good old pong back in the day returning to the video game market and greeted with these controlers with 6 buttons here, there and everywhere, I know my dad doesn't play games because he's purposfully not putting enthusiasm into the thought of pressing more than one button on a gamepad, hopefully the Wii will sway even him, though.

Who would have thought of it? Well obviously Nintendo. Do you think they were kidding when they said they wanted to make games for ages 5 to 95?

The Wii has swayed my non-gaming friends and family to give it a go.
Some dig it, others don't.
The MAIN thing, is that Wii sports DOES appeal to the nongaming crowd. Sports are popular, people dig em, people want to play em, and in a videogame where you simply do motions, its all gravy.

HOWEVER, and this is becoming a big pet peeve of mine about what people think of the Wii.... IT ISNT JUST CASUAL GAMES ON THE THING!
I for one have bought, played, and attempted to get 100% in games like Sonic, MonkeyBall, and Elebits.
These are far from casual gamers games. They are strictly for hardcore players, where as its easy to get to the end for anyone, but doing all the challenges is crazy difficult. All the good ranks, all the unlocks. Just these 3 games alone are just as hardcore than anything on 360, or ps3 thus far. Theres others too like Zelda and SSX. While more gearded for casual gamers, they arnt simple party games. Plus theres all the VC stuff and other games like MetalSlug that are really for the oldschool hardcore fans.
Wii seriously has it all. No other console offered the wide range of genres and game types than it does this early in a 6 month time span!(Though, fighting games are basically non-existent on it. DragonBall and VirtuaFighter2 are hardly anything to get into.)

Anyway, the whole point is, while its great to see the elderly enjoy the Wii. EVERYONE can enjoy it. Unless you're just biased and dont want to play anything that isnt in 1080i. Then you're out of luck.

I suggest you play them Fioter. Attempt to get all the golds in Sonic, all the rank S' in Elebits, and beating MonkeyBall without continuing.

If you can do all that, you're one hardcore gamer.

If you arnt even going to try, you're simply a tool who think blood and sex = hardcore. When in fact that makes you more childish than anyone who is excited about Dewys Adventure.

Agreed that the Wii is for everyone...my dad hasn't played a video game since the original Pong. It was great to see him and my stepmother (who never played a vg in her life) boxing each other on the Wii! (She kicked his arse too, lol).

LOL bow before our hardcoreness LOL!

ps.: i'm not sure if it has the "core" element, but monkeyball can get pretty fuckin' "hard"...

Sonic, Monkeyball and Elebits aren't hardcore. What you've accomplished is what a hard core gamer would do though. From your logic, trying to get the highest score in Pac-Man's Xbox Live Arcade leader board would make Pac-Man the most hard core game on Xbox.

And don't act like Nintendo didn't push the "casual gamer" aspect of the Wii, they paid millions of dollars to market it that way. In the long run, who cares if your parents like playing the Wii, the big question is: Will they buy a Wii and some games to play without their kids? No, therefore who cares if they like to box each other every now and then (with a game that was free anyway).

@Miles,

Then what is your definition of 'hardcore'? Games no one wants to play? My girlfriend is interested in Monkeyball, as it looks cute, but to me, it's one hardcore f'in game. Have you played Monkeyball 1 and 2? Ever landed on a buoy without Magnetball? Ever crossed the 2 pixel-wide guitar strings?

That's the beauty of good design. Games that everyone wants to try, but can be as hard as hell.

Miles, of course Nintendo pushed the casual gamer aspect of the console. Why wouldnt they? Appealing to a broader audience is a good thing.
But if anyone thinks the Wii is ONLY for 5 year olds and 95 years old plus(the casuals), they are dead wrong.
"who cares if they like to box each other every now and then "
Its a good thing to hold videogames in a positive light.

Apparently some people are only familiar with the term hardcore in the context of phrases like hardcore violence or hardcore pornography, therefore they can't understand why Nintendo has hardcore fans.

STG, by your definition anything that is hard to do in a game is hardcore. Like the other day I was playing Dora the Explorer and realized that its a hardcore game if you can beat every puzzle on the first try, with you eyes closed. See how dumb that sounds? I don't think you guys really understand what a hardcore game is. Take GTA. Its a violent very mature game, but i wouldn't call it a hardcore game. Its really accessible, quick to jump in and out of , and everyone has heard of it. But something like Chromehounds isn't for everyone. Now do you get the difference?

And on the Wii's perceived casualness, so far the most popular games (barring Zelda) are for the casual gamer. That's why the Wii is selling so well. A lot of people think the Xbox 360 if the hardcore gaming system because its most popular games are hardcore. But overall the system is pretty balanced. You guys have to stop looking to see if I'm biased or just honest.

The Wii is just as balanced with hardcore to casual games as the 360 is.

Don't be blinded by thinking if a console has more games its balanced. The 360 along with the first xbox are VERY one sided in terms of what types of games are offered.
Microsofts systems are oversaturated with FPS and 3rdperson shooteres. A LOT of which are more on the casual gamers side of things.

and WTF does hardcore mean?? no one fucking knows so stop comparing hardcore game to hardcore game

I think is its soooo dumb when people say that the xbox only has Shooters/racing games. WELL GUESS WHAT!!!!!!

the PC is SHooter/Rpg
THe Wii MInigames/Adventure
Ps3 Shooter/As of now!

Every console always only have 2 genres they're known for.
Yea they're all games available but people just keep saying that about xbox and i dont know what they're getting that shit from.

Especially Wii Nintendo users.
The bulk of your games arent even real videogames they're just mini-games. I wouldnt point fingers if i were ya'll

That's exactly why I said GTA is a casual game. Do me a favor and tell me what you think the difference between a casual and hardcore game is. I wouldn't want to be called a "video game genre defining weasel" without at least hearing what you think .BTW, why so confrontational?

There's no such thing as an inherently "hardcore" game - even a difficult game such as Ninja Gaiden can be played in a cursory, get-to-the-end fashion.

Any game can be played in a hardcore fashion, such as aiming for 100% complete. The problem with hardcore is that growing up, I and everyone I knew seemed to understand it as playing the hell out of a game, regardless of what it was - getting every Esper in FFIII and finding all the secret fights, or getting through a simple beat-em-up without using a continue. It was about taking whatever challenge was on a system and completely dominating it.

Now, it seems to have been flipped on its head. The new breed of "hardcore gamer" wouldn't deign to play anything that had below a 90% review average, would sneer at someone who played on an SDTV regardless of what they were playing or how they were playing it, hates the idea that people would dare defile their passion with anything less than three hours per day of their time (or, you know, cheat codes) and, in general, seeks to make gaming as completely inhospitable as possible.

I'm glad I'm not "hardcore" anymore. I couldn't handle the pretension if I was.
