At least "as far as current plans go." So says Capcom's senior director of strategic planning and research, Christian Svensson, posting on the official Capcom forums in the midst of a Devil May Cry outcry. When asked by fans whether the company's new mulitplatform strategy would extend to their pair of successful Xbox 360 titles, Svensson explains that "Dead Rising and Lost Planet are not slated to appear on Wii or PS3," noting that the reasons for the continued exclusivity "are quite convoluted" and are bound by a slew of suspicious non-disclosure agreements. He goes on to say that Capcom's current approach -- which sees Resident Evil 5 and Devil May Cry 4 coming to both PS3 and Xbox 360 -- is for future titles and isn't meant to be applied in a "retroactive" manner. Of course, this comes just days after Svensson used the forum to respond to sulking petitioners and their disdain for Devil May Cry gracing multiple platforms.
"We are certainly moved that people are so passionate about our products that they would go to such extremes," he said in a seperate thread. "At the same time we feel that allowing more people access to our content pleases far more people than it displeases (after all, we're not denying DMC4 to anyone that was already going to get it). It really is the best decision for the company and for consumers."
Apparently, Dead Rising and Lost Planet simply missed the multiplatform boat.

Why go to the trouble of porting the games, you'll have them done in fall and you'll sell fewer copies than you already sold.
Just make the new games cross-platform, you'll sell a lot more copies on PS3 of a game that is new than a year-old one.

In this day and age the only real reason to buy one console over another is the exclusive titles. The very slight difference in PS3 and 360 make for an almost nil debate over power and performance. You take away all the reasons for the average person to buy a PS3 and they will most likely turn to cheaper alternatives (read as 360). Its not a stance of fanboy-ism, but rather a stance of reason. People shop for value plain and simple.

Does that explain why Sony bought out Heavenly - because they knew the treacherous path Capcom were on?
And doesnt it seem pathetic that where Sony are trying to create new IPs (Lair, MotorS, resistance, Home, Littlebigp, Drake,
All M$ seems capable of is
1. Throw massive sums of money at developers to buy exclusivity (LP, Dead Rising, etc)
2. Throw massive sums of money at senior people at companies (Mistwalker: FF creator; Crackdown: GTA creator)
3. Throw massive sums of money to buy companies (rare, bungie)
4. Throw massive sums of money to make copies of existing franchises (Forza: GT copy) or buy them (PGR)
5. Throw massive sums of money to make the umpteenth shooter (Gears, etc)

"To make money we will make cross-platform games."
"What about your recent games? You said to spread the love so why don't you make with it?"
"Those were already made and we're not wasting the resources to port them."
"But you're making new games multi-platform? Why not ones you know are successful?"
"We're in the business of making money not fun."
".....
Isn't that the point of games?"
"The bottom line is the almighty dollar."
"Isn't that why you ported RE4 to PS2 from GCN?"
"You can see why with the larger install base of the PS2 compared to GCN."
"So you don't think PS3 will be successful enough to warrant exclusivity like GCN was?"
Point is I want some of these games or similar ones on Wii.

You missed Blue Dragon (Draqon Quest knockoff with FF music).
However, I doubt Sony is spending a lot less money than MS on this. Sony is using in-house labor, MS is newer to this game and so is contracting it out.
I don't see MS efforts as more pathetic or particularly more evil than Sony's.

Um, 2M+ people bought Dead Rising, and 1M+ bought Lost Planet. They have a LARGE INSTALLED USER BASE with the 360. They don't have that with the PS3.
Besides, in Jan 2007, Capcom said DMC4 was exclusive - look how that turned out. I figure those two titles are probably limited time exclusivity. How long, though? Wonder how big a moneyhat Microsoft gave them.

You must hate the fact that Namco continues to make games for the Xbox 360, then, since they're working on Ninja Gaiden 2. NG Sigma is just a remake of the Xbox game.

NG is Tecmo not Namco.
Reply
Umm, why would I? I own a 360. Incidently, Namco and Tecmo are two different companies and even publishers. You know that, right, right? Apparently not. Also, Namco is taking PS3 to the arcades. PS3 will be the board running Tekken 6. And finally? The Namco/Sony team up company is called Cellius.
When I go home for lunch, I can hunt up the scans from the Famitsu debut of these three games.

How is it that you can say the 360 is not creating new IP? The only two games that really are carrying any real widespread interest in the PS3 right now are FFXIII and MGS4. Microsoft has launched several new IP's over the life of the 360, with many more to come.
@#7
You realize then, that FF as a whole is just a Dragon Quest ripoff with Final Fantasy music. As for Blue Dragon, the game was designed by most of the people responsible for Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy. I still have fond memories of the last time these guys worked together on a game... what was it called...? Oh yeah, Chrono Trigger. BD got a 37/40 from Famitsu, I think it deserves at least a little respect.

Cry a little more, will you?
You sound like a typical ps3 owner that is upset over the idea that "EVIL" microsoft is doing well this next-gen console war, with games. Money or not, it's working and I truely don't care if they spend money buying franchises. If it gives me more games to choose from then hell, I'll take it.
I mean god the only thing I found pathetic in your comment was how much you are in your own little fantasy world.
I find the funniest thing of your comment is that sony is developing new IPs from companies that they bought, so it really isn't sony that is developing the IPs its the companies that they bought.
"5. Throw massive sums of money to make the umpteenth shooter (Gears, etc)"
^ They didn't have to throw money at epic at all. Epic and microsoft were in talks with each other for a while. Epic told them that 512mb of ram should be in the 360 and microsoft listen, which was a smart move.
All is fair in business, so stop bitching over the fact that microsoft is doing something that gamers love on their console. It isn't our problem you have a ps3 that might not see the same games. It's like karma for sony, last gen they did this to microsoft, now it's microsofts turn. All is fair.
Just don't whine over the idea that microsoft is getting alot of developer support.

It must really hurt your feelings to know MS is tearing Sony apart with new exclusive games. Do yourself a favor and go turn on your $600 screensaver and pretend your helping cure cancer while you wait for the "killer app" Littlebigplanet lol.

But with the PS3 you can attack the weak points of giant enemy cancer to cause massive damage!

Expect the PS3 to loose more exclusives to the 360 as it just makes business sense to development houses trying to turn a profit.

1st: they're game, GET OVER IT.
2nd: They're a COMPANY, they're meant to MAKE MONEY out of their business.
3rd: "aw, mom! capcom made DMC4 Multiplatform!" ... oh, please. Where were those sacrificed "no-multiplatform" fans (who btw had PS2) when Resident Evil 4 went multiplatform? weren't you supposed to say "NAY! We won't be buying RE4 for PS2 because it was a gamecube exclusive! youuuu capcom sold yourself to sony!" every coin has heads and tails.
...I really wouldn't be the one to moan if Lost planet and Dead rising go multi, in fact, i would be happy for those who don't want to buy another machine (yess, i'm talking about PS3 owners who would want to play LP or DR). But I understand capcom's reasoning and logic. I'm not playing F1 CE and i want to try it, badly... nor resistance or motorstorm, and i won't be playing it until i get a PS3, and that will be maybe in a couple of years. And i'm not like "OMG! sony/insomniac/evolution why aren't you making these games multiplatform! (extend this to any game/company making an exclusive game)"
BTW: That 'M$ just expends LOOAADS of money' guy was really hilarious :)

Brave Arms
Brave Arms is a 3rd person adventure in which you seemingly have no ranged weapons, so you attack by getting in close and fighting at ultra-close range with context-sensitive attacks. You can see a "guide line" of your enemies' attacks that tells you what they're about to do and if you react with proper timing you can counter it by pressing the Juggle Button at the instant it would hit you. So it's about getting in close, then it becomes a context-sensitive fighter.

Chain Limit
CHAIN LIM!T uses the Target Link system, which is SORT of similar to QTE, but far more advanced. It looks like you use the two sticks; the left stick chooses areas you can interact with in the environment while the right chooses your action. In the middle shot of the first page, the guy is choosing "Bite" and the tape on his girl's pants. But he could choose to throw some other object or combine two other objects or whatever. Not exactly a linear QTE sort of thing. In the airplane engine thing, we're seeing three scenarios. One where it looks like he dodges a falling box that hits the guy holding his legs, one where he messes up and dies, and one where he selects "remove" while targeting his own belt to drop his pants along with the guy holding them. So theoretically, you can choose any option at any target point, giving you 20+ possible actions. So instead of simple QTE multiple choice, you can combine your options in creative ways.

Second Season
Second is an investigation/adventure game with multiple game modes. One is exploration, one is shooting, and one is selecting voice responses in realtime, which is very similar to Indigo Prophecy. The modes can happen on top of each other, so you can have gun shooting while choosing voice responses. So in the shooting scene they show, you can either blow the target away with your gun (by physically doing it, not selecting it as an option), or try and negotiate with him by selecting your dialogue. You can always change the camera with the right stick, and the options/voice commands change based on what you're facing.

There, couldn't dig em up when I was at work.

As for DMC4 going to Xbox 360, Sony can thank themselves for that. Not a single company in the world would take a loss on a game that is supposed to be a blockbuster just to please some whiny bitches. The only reason they are whining in the first place is that it's one less title in the lists fanboys post to show the PS3 is worth buying. Oh well at least you can still put unproven shit like Heavenly Sword and Lair as blockbusters...
The only thing I'm remotely worried about is the game won't be all it can be because of it's multiplatformness, but if it means that I can skip the PSTriple this generation, I'll take it.

DMC4 or ES4:Oblivion... hmmm?
anyways I own 360 and a PS3 and Personally i still see more exclusives goin to PS3 that i want. motorstorm is great, lair and heavenly sword look good, anything from insomniac and naughty dog will be good most likely.
where as MS just got lucky with dead rising (fantastic game, my fav 360 game) and lostplanet in that 360 came out earlier and now capcom is to lazy to port it over to PS3 because they know nobody will care a year later. if they make sequels you can bet on them bieng on both systems.

If we only have one console we get spoon-fed whatever gives the company best return on their product.
I have a PS3. I am not going to buy a 360. If they want my money they need to cross-platform, and do it well, I dont want some dumbed down version.
I would see this as being most peoples attitudes that own one or the other console.
The only people that should be afraid of cross-platform games are the console makers. They don't want their competitors version touted as the better of the two.
So if you own a 360 or PS3 be happy for the other guy. The moment there is only one option is the instant we as consumers lose.

Plus, this is not like EA buying the NFL rights. Most of this money being thrown around only increases competition.

DMC4 or ES4:Oblivion... hmmm?
Just to make it clear... oblivion was NEVER an exclusivity... PC came first -> Xbox360 -> Ps3 -> ¿psp? (i heard something about it)
but there we go again. I'm really glad that Oblivion is going to PS3, this way 360-only users can get something that maybe other way they wouldn't... New Shaders.

But thats not the way Sony or Nintendo or Sega built IPs
Sony
spent effort to build great development houses like Naughty Dog / Insomnia
Had the imagination to create IPs (inhouse or in collabaration) like KH, GH, Singstar, Ico, Gran Turismo, God of War, Suikoden
Attracted great IPs like FF from Nintendo, not by money but by the technology needed to make the games great.
Even GTA / MGS, at the beginning, were exciting new franchises possible because of Sony's vision of adding support for CD, which is why they were Sony exclusive at the beginning (not because Sony gave them money - they were just not possible on the cartridge that Nintendo forced on them)
How many IP M$ created that was not
- Made by a company bought (Rare, Bungie)
- Made by a big-name producer bought out (Mistwalker, Crackdown)
- established developer given money to make their next product exclusive (Capcom, Splinter cell, Epic with Gears, Bioware)
- Copy of Sony (Forza)
M$ is busy splashing out cash

"capcom is to lazy to port it over to PS3 because they know nobody will care a year later"
Your ignorant. It cost money to port a game to a system. If the system the game is being ported to doesn't have install base to make the money back then there is no reason to port the game in the first place.
"anyways I own 360 and a PS3 and Personally i still see more exclusives goin to PS3 that i want"
You don't own a 360. I can tell. Any exclusive Sony has MS cancels it out with a greater exclusive IP.

I’m own PS3 just for 2 days… Have nothing against Xbox. They both fine platform, except, PS3 have much better hardware and more reliable.
Sorry guys, but even if games will be out for both platforms, most of the still Sony exclusive on content. (For example Fight Night Round 3 have firs person mode, and bunch of other extra stuff). You do realize then Double Layer BD-ROM (30+ Gigs) with GTA4 for Play station will be different from 8 Gig DVD-Rom for Xbox.
Of cource MS make some of this extra material available as download from XBL (for $$) eventually. But still. All future HD games for both platforms… sound like Xbox will always get RIP from real full game.
MS include chip basic DVD drive instead of HT true high definition drive Sony have. “Chippo” always pay twice. Unfortunately MS want you to pay for it this time.
Sorry for my English.

And? It's Microsoft's money, not ours. It's nice they are taking the hits for us :)! Enjoy jerking off to your Sony posters, ohhh they have imagination and vision, ohhh!! Meanwhile the rest of us will enjoy the games, whether they were bought or not.

So most likely Dead Rising and Lost Planet will remain 360 exclusive, while Dead Rising 2 and Lost Planet 2 will be multiplatform. The same way Devil May Cry 4 will be multiplatform, and DMC 1-3 will stay PS2 exclusive.

No matter what you say, you will never prove to us the PS3 is better than the 360. Its just like I can't prove to the Wii fans that the 360 is better.

You are really living in a fantasy world. The 360 is offering more quality games, especially console exclusive, than the PS3 and at a lower price. Why is that such a bad thing, regardless of how they do it? You talk like you'd like them more if they didn't just get so many darn good games. lol. fanboyism to the max.

Seriously. You CAN claim Sony helped develop Guitar Hero but that arguement only goes as far as Sony ponying up the money to help finance and publish Frequency and again with Amplitude. And hiring Harmonix to develop EyeToy: Antigrav.
And giving Sony credit for Suikoden and Kingdom Hearts? Dude, I just threw you three very unique games that WILL be PS3 exclusive, and you give Sony credit for Kingdom Hearts....
