Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core trailer -- now with more ridiculous hair
Eternally the Japanese RPG's signifier and the cosplayer's bane, the hair in Final Fantasy games is often as entertaining as it is improbable. Though it might be a deeply rooted jealousy that causes us to question just how Cloud's finely kept anti-quiff defies all known laws of the universe, it nevertheless remains a matter of observation and pertinence. Indeed, if we follow the Grand List of Console Role-Playing Game Cliches' Cloud Rule -- the higher the hair, the closer to God -- it would seem that just about every character in Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core (PSP) has a vital part to play in the story. Surely we can find some significance and excitement in that?
Also, the graphics look pretty cool.

Do you mean there's the same amount of hair and it's more ridiculous, or is the hair just as ridiculous as before, but there's more of it?
Rubang B @ Mar 26th 2007 11:36PM
I wasn't going to watch this video, but Ludwig used the word "anti-quiff" so I had to.
Jebb @ Mar 26th 2007 11:42PM
argh... i'll have to buy a psp now. good thing there is a price drop coming soon.
Colin @ Mar 26th 2007 11:39PM
This is likely the deal breaker for me getting a PSP...now I just have to figure out if PSP2 is coming anytime soon...
NeverSage @ Mar 26th 2007 11:40PM
Hmmm... I'm really unsure about the game play. I hope it's good. I was hoping they'd make it Kingdom Hearts-ish.
Also, Sephiroth is a badass

that almost made me want a psp...too bad that and tekken would be the only games i'd ever get
SkyCroc @ Mar 27th 2007 1:04AM
More hair on the head but none anywhere else, amirite?
mystictaco @ Mar 27th 2007 1:06AM
if the ratio of 15 seconds of gameplay to 5 minutes total video is any indication of the final product, I am wholly uninterested.

This better be good unlike dirge of cerberus where they killed it with to many random characters, and i hope they focus more on the storyline than they did in final fantasy xii. at least it's not a third person shooter like dirge was and hironobu gave them plenty of storyline to work with. Now does anyone know if its using gambits? cause it looked sort of like it.

Oh. My. God. Will they never let FFVII just die? It is, without a doubt, one of the most overrated series (Yes, I'm referring to FFVII as a series, as that's what it is now, apparently.) that I've ever seen.
I realize that it's a guaranteed best-seller. I mean, toss in a bit of Cloud and Sephiroth, along with Aeris (you know, to get FFVII all emotional and whatnot), and you've got yourself a supposed AAA title. Advent Children was probably the worst movie that I've ever seen (and that's coming from somebody who is actually familiar with the FFVII storyline - imagine how somebody who isn't would feel while watching this). It was nothing more than eye candy.
And it wasn't even GOOD eye candy. The animation is so ridiculously bad that the "animators" obviously saw fit to overuse a horrible mix of incredibly fast and incredibly slow motion in an attempt to hide it from untrained eyes. Shadows were, with one or two exceptions, pretty half-assed, and what's the deal with the lack of tire marks and footprints in the proper places? Wow. Talk about lazy. Everything else looks great, but the designers really fell short in these areas.
But that's okay, because Cloud and Sephiroth are in the movie, as is Aeris (in calm scenes that interrupt intense battle scenes, for some reason). I actually thought that it was a half-decent attempt at bringing the cast together up to the point at which Vincent was re-introduced, then Square completely gave up and tossed the rest of the characters in within a single battle. Lame.

the hair floats like dead or alive's boobs. game looks pretty sweet, though. wonder what the battle system i slike? looks kinda like ffVII. i prefer the old school menus.
ScreamingSkull @ Mar 27th 2007 9:32AM
It looks sweet, but damn, is the game really 2/3rds cut scenes?
Crono @ Mar 27th 2007 9:48AM
It is infinitely clear that FFVII should continue only in movie form from now on, as the games are 99% FMV anyway.
Wait for the PS2 Port!
Feanor @ Mar 27th 2007 10:28AM
Yawn, Xbots bashing a PSP game based on its trailer and assuming the actual game will have the exact same percentage of cutscenes.
ScreamingSkull @ Mar 27th 2007 10:43AM
Hey I love my PSP(and my360), I've been playing the crap out of Puzzle Quest for days now. I also played through a good portion of ff:vii on it via popstation, and I think the action and modeling in this look amazing for a psp game. But seriously enough with the cutscenes japan, I want to play the game. I also couldn't watch that advent children movie.
Crono @ Mar 27th 2007 11:08AM
I swear, gamers have way too high a standard for their game-based-movies. Advent Children was an excellent action film, with just a hint of philosophy. It wasn't an oscar winner, but it was a good action flick.
Would you rather have Uwe Boll?
