I'm really curious how this story unfolds. By reading just about every other site (Kotaku, Joystiq, Destructoid), I was under the impression that the PS3 totally tanked everywhere in Europe.

If this story turns out to be true and it broke sales records, then I think those sites have a lot of explaining to do.

Not that they would hold themselves accountable for bad reporting.

a bit premature perhaps, but it just shows that the PS3 is essentialy a great machine with more potential than the other two, everyone moans and whines about like of games etc. but for gods sake it's only just launched, and as far as launch titles go, R:FOM, motorstorm, VF5 are more than adequate for me, an to honest in my opinion at least, for a console this far in the Xbox's games aren't that great, a mean there's hardly a wide vareity of games, sure theres some good ones like gears of war and blue dragon, but nothing very original and not that many games outside their traditional genres i.e shooters. And with games like warhawk, lair, MGS4, heavenly sword, Killzone, little big planet, ratchet and clank and Drake something by naughty dog on the way for PS3, i think the PS3 will soon be breathing down MS's neck.

Oh my god guys, can the fanboysim, it's degrading to everyone who visits the site. I highly doubt that Microsoft fanboys have any more acne than Sony fanboys. Quit calling each other names and throwing insults around and try to start acting like your age is in the double digits.

Sorry for rambling on, the truth is that sony produced a great well made product, with the PS3 they went beyond gaming and produced a peice of technology which perfectly complements any HD setup, great products sell.

Sorry, for being such a dick, I just got a PS3 [havn't used it yet waiting till new TV arrives tues] and i like to know that it's done well to ensure a future supply of games, immature I know..., just felt like throwing a few immature sterotypes

I am glad to hear that %75 sold out but lets not start gloating yet. Obviously you are going to sell more consoles if there are enough for everyone to buy. The 360 was in short supply for months so you cant really compare the two without sounding like a moron.

I find that throwing a few slightly jeuvenille comments normaly spices things up a bit, says something about my world view i guess,

anyway glad to hear the PS3 sold, well and if it does well in england after all the bad press it shows that the Playstation brand is not in tatters, what people tend to forget is that most people don't go on gaming websites and interested [or aware of] sony's arrogance, whether sixaxis is a rip off of wii, etc and all that other stuff which in the grand scheme of things is irrelevant, never underestimate the playstation brand, the biggest barrier to alot of consumers at the moment is the price and that will change over time, and by the way for what it is it is not overpriced, look at the components and the production costs!

anyway what i liked about the PS3 was that i felt they were pushing the boundries and trying to bring gaming into the next age e.g cell and home, not just do quick update of their existing console and refine things a bit a la 360.

I'm loving it. Anyway, how can anyone say that it failed as it has been top of amazon.co.uk's sales for over a month.

They didn't sell out...maybe that's what they are alluding to? They had more supply at their respective launch, but maybe some people/analysts/journalists were expecting sell-out results?

In any case good for them. Sony needs to stay competitive. I'm surprised the PSP sold so well though...didn't know that.

It's not surprising. I mean the UK was staring a picture of the damn console for a full year. I mean if there was a product that wasn't out here, but people wanted, it would out sell anything.


Ps. This console war is not going to be won by a fast sprint. It's long term, but congrats Sony.

I think that Waiting to release the Playstation 3, was a bigger benefit than Sony could imagine; I think the demand for ps3 grew, after it was release in the US/Japan, and thus why we have Playstation 3(s) selling like hotcakes. Plus... Sony met demand... that's why they got that success... hopefully in the future Sony will only release when they can meet demand... "When Demand is high... You MUST Supply"

YAY they sold more then XBOX360 and NintendoWII in 1 weekend YAY to bad it was 6 months late and not a world wide launch! Give me a break, stop triing to make it sound like Sony accomplished much.

ok retards, the amount the ps3 sold=demand for the ps3. easy enough. now lets apply that same formula to the wii. 1.68 million wiis sold and it's still sold out=demand. ok, breakdown time. demand for ps3=520,000. demand for wii=1.68+million(sold out). numbers are from VG Charts. god damnit i hate ps3 fans.
In conclusion...Wii's launch sales should be tied to the point when they stop being sold out because thats when the demand has been passed by supply. In ps3's case, supply already exceeded demand on the first weekend (lol)...not 4 1/2 months+ in wiis case.

Sorry, I thought video game consoles were supposed to...play video games. Color me old-fashioned but all three consoles do that quite well. Of course, Wii and 360 blow the PS3 away, but still...all three have their advantages.

Wow #34, you're a friggin genius! How about we play more numbers games? According to what info you've provided us with, the ps3 has sold 1/3 as many systems as the Wii has sold in 4 months.
But the ps3 did it in 3 days.

Look at how easy it is to spin that stuff!

There was no problem in the UK for fulfilling orders. Everyone seems to have a lot of stock.

If I were you, I keep the PSP comparisons as far away from the PS3 as possible.
