If they weren't ripping us off on the price of both console and games I'm sure they'd have sold plenty more.

$25 million divided by $1000 = 25 thousand units sold?
Respectable sales numbers, really.

Shouldn't Blake Snow be posting some of these reports and desperately trying to spin them into negative news for Sony? I thought that was his role - is he on vacation?

You mean having the PS3 be outsold by its competitors in most (all?) regions is not negative news for Sony? I don't think anyone needs to spin this, not even Blake.

It may be $25 million in sales but it sure isn't $25 million in profit. Even if the Wii's sales die down to nothing Nintendo will still more than likely turn the greatest profit from this gen.

Demaar, you forget that this includes sales of games and accessories, so that figure of 25,000 you gave would be substancially less.

Looks like the Aussies have been ripped off by more than just Sony.

"7. Looks like the Aussies have been ripped off by more than just Sony."

Thus why I import. Even with shipping it's cheaper.

My heart goes out to Australia for the ridiculous prices for every system mentioned here. But damn, the Australian PS3 launch didn't even surpass the Australian PSP launch? That broke the cycle of their record launch always going to the newest system. If the PS3 has taught Australia one thing, it's that "the newest" doesn't mean "the best" anymore.

I remember reading that the $25 million number also included assecories and games, so it would have less than 25,000 PS3 units sold.

I'll be interesting to see the official numbers later this week.

ahhh the Xbox 1.5 babies are out in force... :) Why do you wait for the Xbox 2.0 to come out so you can shell out another $500 for a "NextGen" console. LOL.

Yup - if you were to add just one game and a controller, the price spikes up to $1180-1200, which comes back down towards the 21000 unit sold mark, for only one game and one control to spare.

And it F#$%in' serves Sony right, too, smug pricks. They've treated us (the Australian market) with contempt and arrogance, so I'm immensely happy to see the launch fall flat on it's arse. And yes, before anyone says otherwise, in a population base like ours, 20000 units as opposed to 33000 is an abortion of a launch.

Also, as it currently stands, I think a lot of people got burned by the PSP launch here. For one thing, it launched and then suddenly - no one cared anymore. There were no decent games (still barely one or two), no one wanted UMD's, and Sony weren't exactly turning out the solid gold hits for a handheld console which actually cost $500+ at launch ($430 is the current price, not launch price). Since then, the DS has shat all over the PSP, and I think PSP / PS2 owners here have really cracked the shits with Sony.

Then again, I may just be speculating. Still, eat shit and die, Sony, no one here wants your horrible, ugly, boring monolith.

So 20,000 consoles and $25mil in sales in Sony speak is what, 15,000 consoles shipped (not nec. sold) and maybe 18Mil in sales, with a net loss of about 8Mil... sounds like a winner to me!
