Romance of the Three Kingdoms conquers Virtual Console
With Nintendo's Virtual Console service already populated by all manner of leaping vermin, reckless racers and pointy-eared adventurers, the time has come for something more serious to occupy our time. And it doesn't get more serious than a political tale of an inter-kingdom love triangle and the slow subjugation of China, otherwise described as Romance of the Three Kingdoms. This Monday sees the release of the fourth and snappily titled game in the tactical sim series, Romance of the Three Kingdoms IV: Wall of
No, that's it. Surely you didn't expect to conquer China, invade Monster World and traipse through an Enchanted Castle all in one day?

I'm going to be pretty disappointed if this is the only release today.
Tuatara @ Mar 26th 2007 10:52AM
WTF!?!?! ONE GAME!?!?! Blasphemy. >.>
Chyld989 @ Mar 26th 2007 10:55AM
Ahh man! And I JUST bought this game on eBay. That stinks =(
BB @ Mar 26th 2007 10:56AM
Pretty disappointing week. Oh well. Virtual console Mondays are starting to be a hit or miss. There's been too many misses though.
kelekod @ Mar 26th 2007 10:56AM
is it just me or does it seem like the VC will never be completed? After seeing the 2 ebay auctions saying there's some 800 (or about) games for SNES and NES each, I'm sure there's a wide variety of N64 games as well. It just seems at the rate its been going that we'll never get the complete list of all Nintendo games. I'm not one to buy all the games, but I feel like they will only add the "best of" for all the systems included. And some of the titles I enjoy, I'm not sure if they are "best of" quality. I had thought Nintendo wanted to include all titles from its systems.
JodyAnthony @ Mar 26th 2007 11:00AM
kelekod, keep in mind, there is a TON of crap for these systems.
I just want Bird Week for NES. Don't know why, but I love that game. Its so stupid

they never said they were going to release all the games from any of the classic systems. i have no idea were you came up with that, but so you know that is not the intention and never was, we will see kinda like you said best of for the most part and even that is subject to opinion, and there are also some 3rd parties from that era that wont release any of there titles to VC.
Z @ Mar 26th 2007 11:33AM
But for all of you that haven't tried it- Romance 4 is an awesome game!! Give it a shot. Probably my fav of the series.

What the...? The Virtual Console round up in this month's Nintendo Power included Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and I expected it to get added near the release of the movie...
McHoffa @ Mar 26th 2007 11:48AM
This is ridiculous. I mean really, one game? Why not release super mario bros 2 or 3, or lost levels? Nintendo is disappointing me. I have points just waiting to be spent (but they already have my real money so i guess they are happy).
I would like to see 2-3 new games PER SYSTEM every week... they would see a lot more of my money that way.
JodyAnthony @ Mar 26th 2007 12:52PM
"I would like to see 2-3 new games PER SYSTEM every week... they would see a lot more of my money that way."
and a lot more games would be lost in the shuffle. I wouldn't be surprised if the reason they are releasing RotTK by itself is because if they released it along side other games, who would buy it? With it being the only game this week, more people might try it out. (which they should, because it's awesome.)
If more people buy it, nintendo can say "hey koei, look, your game sold X many copies! surely you'll want to put more up and make some easy money!" which they might do, then Nintendo can tell other 3rd parties "hey look everyone, koei is making tons of easy money off the virtual console. Don't you want to get some easy money, too?" leading to more 3rd parties putting games on the VC, possibly leading to more 3rd parties making original Wii games.

Never will happen, so might as well as get out of that dream world you live in.
I believe they said it would be 3 or 4 per week, though I could be off by 1 or so on each end. Not PER console, but PER week. If they did that many per console per week, you'd run through all the stuff people want to put up quickly, then you'd be whining there's nothing left to get.
Oye, some people will never be happy.
JodyAnthony @ Mar 26th 2007 1:34PM
"I believe they said it would be 3 or 4 per week"
I might be wrong, but as far as I know they never said anything about a set schedule. Their one press release where they said 'games would be released every week' also said 'starting this week, 4 games' blahblahblah. Everyone took that as meaning '4 every week' when it really only meant '4 THIS week' and ever since then everyone has believed that they said 4 every week.
hvnlysoldr @ Mar 26th 2007 1:57PM
I always took what they said at the beginning. 30 in the launch window and then 10 a month.
Lou D @ Mar 26th 2007 2:07PM
Nintendo said 10/month. We've been spoiled so far.
JodyAnthony @ Mar 26th 2007 2:35PM
so if its 10/month then theoretically they can only release 2 a week for april (5 mondays)
that would be pretty sucky.
Sven @ Mar 26th 2007 2:57PM
Would've been nicer to have one of Koei's more populist games (Aerobiz: Supersonic immediately comes to mind), but this isn't bad.
As for the 800 NES / SNES games thing... the rights for probably 50% of those, if not more, are in limbo and / or the companies themselves no longer exist. That makes the VC being "complete" impossible.
Justin U @ Mar 26th 2007 3:18PM
Are you kidding me? ROTK is abanodonware... You can find it abandonia..
Yourself @ Mar 26th 2007 3:29PM
I need Super Metroid, stat.
Other than that, my biggest problem with VC so far is that... all the games have retained their slowdown issues. I mean wtf, thats pretty unacceptable, especially when you compare it to the XBLA games that get complete makeovers.
kelekod @ Mar 26th 2007 7:58PM
I don't know where I had gotten it from, but I guess I interpreted it to be that way. Afterall in the shop channel does mention "completely backwards compatible all the way to the NES" or something along those lines, and to be 'completely' I guess thought meant like all the games. because it's like saying its not completely backwards compatible as some games "don't work" aka not there. I guess this was my theory of the VC, because I didn't want to keep the carts forever.

not working and not there are 2 completely different things.
