he played it really cool... cuz for the most part... he's right. So blu-ray, as expected, is doing better than hd-dvd... so what? Since I'm going to be using DVD until the format is whiped out entirely, Sony's business model just doesn't address any of my habits as a consumer.

The only thing that I disagree with thompson on here, is how the PS3 technilogically doesn't add anything that the 360 needs...

ummm... actually, built in wireless would be nice.

really nice.

The ability to sell 165,000 consoles at launch would've probably been nifty too.

And hey, the PS3 comes in black! MS already has plans to 'borrow' that.

The fact that EVERY game on both systems has better graphics on the Xbox 360 is a pretty good indicator that the Xbox 360 has the true graphics advantage.

And when you factor in that even the Playstation magazines point out that games like Gears of War, Lost Planet, and Crackdown BLOW AWAY everything on the Playstation 3, then it is a pretty good indicator that the Xbox 360 has the graphics advantage.

The only type of processing advantage the PS3 has over the Xbox 360 is the "Computer Processing" power that Sony talks about with Floating Point calculations...the ones that are used in Spreadsheets and Accounting Software programs.

In terms of Videogame Processing power, the Xbox 360 has better CPU multi-core power, a more advanced Graphics Processing Unit, better and more flexible Unified RAM, as well as eDRAM, and a GPU uses the newer and better Unified Shader design that Windows Vista is based on. Oh, and the fact that the Xbox 360 can do 500,000,000 polygons per second compared to only 275,000,000 polygons per second.

Those are the reasons why games like Call of Duty 3 have awesome framerates on the Xbox 360, but are so choppy on the Playstation 3.

Umm.. Oblivion looks better on the PS3 Burt, and so does Virtua Tennis. I guess that automatically strikes EVERY out of your topic.

And when the director for the company willingly admits that there is a graphical advantage to the contender, wouldn't he know more about the product than you would?

I don't really get why he says the ps3 is graphically superior. I have a 360 here and I'm really interested in the ps3 (LittleBigPlanet did that...), but from what I've read I always thought the 360 was a little bit better (GPU-wise).

I considered that myself, Silver R. Wolfe (if that is your real name). Odd, since Arstechnica et al. have stated differently, yet this Msoft exec says otherwise.

But, what a surprise to hear a Msoft robot lip-service his own company. What a surprise.

Burt Smith: heh... interesting. I was pretty much led to believe that the ps3 has marginally better processing power than the 360... but then again, I was also lead to believe that the ps3 was a pain to program for... therefore because developers were having a hard time with it, that ports and multiplatform games for the time being looked better on the 360.

Silver: true, but according to Bethesda, this is just because they've had more time to improve on their own engine. additionally, and someone correct me if I'm wrong on this one (and I could very well be), but bethesda stated that they were going to release a patch for the 360 that would include the graphical upgrades.

Silver Wolfe, while your statements are correct, the PS3 deserves very little praise (if any). I've been waiting for this *surprise* to be blown away by my PS3. So far, I absolutely hate the thing even with an optimal rig.

It's a really aggravating console to use after using the 360. When you exit a game to the XMB...the controller shuts off. When you update the console, the controller shuts off, you have to plug it in, turn it back on, and press the button several times...why isn't it just automatic? The triggers aren't protected and are hyper sensitive. Start a movie, drop the controller from 2" on the couch, and suddenly you're fast forwarding. And yes, it disconnects in games for short periods of time. You sit there wondering why your character is running into the wall...and then it hits you...your controller is on but the PS3 doesn't know it's there for several seconds.

There is a myriad of things the PS3 does wrong and causes much inconvenience. The controller problems are on top of the list, so I'll stop at those.

There's just nothing the PS3 does that I wish the Xbox 360 could do. Blu-ray is silly...everyone I've shown can't tell the difference...even in 1080p. Linux? Browsing? It does those so piss-poor I'm surprised they are touted features.

Between our 360 and Wii, the PS3 is just that unfun PITA no one in our house wants to bother with. When a joking punishment in the house becomes, "Don't do that or I'll make you play the PS3," is that a good sign?

When exclusives are the only thing keeping it on the shelf, that only digs the hole deeper.

Hopefully "home" will make the console fun to just turn on and screw around with. So far, it fails miserably at that. As it stands, the Wii and the 360 have "gaming fun" locked down.

"The only thing that I disagree with thompson on here, is how the PS3 technilogically doesn't add anything that the 360 needs..."

I think I prefer the way the ps3 deals with the internal HD... upgrading is as simple as whatever HD you can afford & throw in, and it works. In theory, the HDDVD add on for the 360 should work on the ps3... that would probably motivate me to buy one (but only if I can get one cheaper).

SuicideNinja- is that only when using bluetooth, or if you connect via USB does that continue?

SuicideNinja - it sounds like you have a bad controller. When I bail out of a PS3 game, my controller doesn't shutdown so I have no problem scrolling through the XMB and I have yet to lose a connection during gameplay.

I don't mind having a built-in high-definition movie player since I paid for it and it looks good on an HDTV.

Sony does have a fair amount of catching up to do with the games but Resistance and Motorstorm are good fun and I'm looking forward to Oblivion and Warhawk.

Whether you like the system or not, is a matter of personal preference. The good thing is the fact you have a choice. Now we just need to ignore the executive trash-talking since it has become rather boring.

Wow, I don't think I've ever seen my name in so many comments before. :3

Suicideninja, I wasn't trying to praise the PS3, just pointing out some flaws in the argument above me.

Personally, I'm not even going to consider investing in any next-gen console until fall of this year. Still a lot of time for any of them to take off and more than ample time for one to fall flat on its proverbial face.

Oh, Aragorn, if I remember correctly, the Xbox 360 version will get the same upgraded shaders that the PS3 version uses, but the PS3 will always have a better draw distance and the PS3 has the advantage of the HDD being there when it comes to pop in. Bethesda could enable Xbox 360 users to install a chunk of the game on the HDD, but I don't see that happening until the 120GB drive becomes the standard.

This man makes me laugh, so according to him "the PS3 has no notable features that he wishes were also in the Xbox 360."....Let me get this straight supposedly the Xbox 360 Elite is coming out right? Well that is going to have a Bigger HDD which the PS3 60 gig is notably higher then the premium 360 and it will also have an HDMI port....well those are things that the PS3 has and the 360 currently doesn't but they are making a new machine and adding....right. Nice try UK exec take your foot out of your mouth. Also if Sony was too quick to jump into the next gen drives...why does MS offer a HDDVD add on....Just my .02 cents.

I love my PS3 and I think the 360 is a great system, it is much too early to say the PS3 is grapichally better then the 360 because the PS3 is in GEN I and the 360 is moving to GEN III. If most of you who waited in line, 360 owners remember a little game called Perfect Dark Zero....Need I say more. I say the true power of the system will come out mid to the end of 07. If the Amazing physics of Motorstorm show any view onto the future im real excited.

BUT who cares about the PS3 on here right lol. My whole thing is not bashing the 360 its hating any exec of any company and the flaming fanboys of any system. For example I hate Phil Harrison he does the same crap and I hate the children that get on these sites and get all defensive of a video game system. Maybe if a Sony fanboy came and punched your 360 pissed on your dog and boinked your sister then you could get mad but chill out.

Why cant there be peace in the Fanboy world like back when the PS, Dreamcast and N64 were out. Those were the good days. I said my peace.

Deadeye6 Out.

^ are right doesn't that contradict why they would release an xbox elite, surely they could've acutually released a future proof product like sony instead of just rushing an xbox 1.5 [face it they just refined everythin] to market.

and on the games front i wish people would stop going on about this the console has just launched resistance vs. perfect dark hmmm.

With heavenly sword, MGS4, ninja gaiden, warhawk, littlebigplanet, home, killzone, lair, ratchet and clank and drakes fortune all on the way we'll see who has the better games lineup by the end of the year.

And by the way the xbox brand is weak everwhere apart from north america and even there the playstation brand is strong xbox cannot win look at the figures compared xbox's in the same timeframe.

Where did all the a**holes come from all of a sudden?

And do these people honestly believe that the PS3 can "win" anything this generation? It's a marketing disaster and the only thing it's got over the 360 is the "supposedly" better graphics which it "might" have at some point in the future....

Plus it costs more! Are these people stupid or what?

The 360 being out longer is no excuse for anything. Developers have had both consoles as long as each other, the consumer release of the PS3 was delayed because they had problems with the diodes for the Blu-Ray drives. Or has everyone forgotten that already?

And, as developers have had the systems for the same amount of time, and the dev kits and specs, PS3 games should look better *if* Sony's claims are true and it is vastly more powerful than the 360... But they don't.

Anyway, I think more people care about things like not waiting forever for games to load because Blu-Ray is so ridiculously slow for data, having a decent online system that supports friends lists etc., and of course having access to hundreds of games.

It also really says something when I know at least 3 people who were holding out for the PS3, only to see the disappointing reviews and poor lineup of games and so went out and bought a 360.

And they're very happy with them. I wonder if any of these PS3 apologists actually own one, as the only person in this thread who seems to actually have one is complaining about the controllers not working properly...

Virtua Tennis 3 looks better on the Xbox 360, and it plays better thanks to the Rumble...but most importantly the Playstation 3 version of Virtua Tennis 3 is WORTHLESS because it does NOT include online play!

The Xbox 360 version of Virtua Tennis 3 DOES include online play, and it is AWESOME. Virtua Tennis 3 is rated higher on the Xbox 360 EVERYWHERE!

Games like Tony Hawk Skater Project 8 look TERRIBLE on the Playstation 3, and they don't even offer onlien play at all.

Call of Duty 3 looks a LOT better on the Xbox 360--the framerate of the Xbox 360 is SO MUCH smoother on the Xbox 360. The PS3 version is SO CHOPPY with the framerate!

Look at the way Ridge Racer is missing sailboats in the PS3, and has waves under bridges that don't move in the PS3 version, and some of the polygons are flat looking instead of textured...and the PS3 version has terrible lighting compared to the Xbox 360 version in those night stages.

And look at the way Game Informer compared F.E.A.R., and NBA Street: Homecourt, and said that the Xbox 360 version is sharper and has better textures with more detail in both games! And the sad thing is that F.E.A.R. is being released SO MUCH LONGER after the Xbox 360 version, and still doesn't look as good!

It's common knowledge that all of the EA Sports games and all of the 2K Sports games are MUCH better on the Xbox 360. You can't even use Online Voice-Chat in the Playstation 3 versions of those EA Sports games and 2K Sports games. Heck, you can't even use Online Voice chat in the Playstation 3 versions of Ridge Racer or Call of Duty 3.

The Xbox 360 versions of ALL of those third party games let you use Online Voice Chat to talk trash to your opponent in sports games or fighting games, or you can work as a team in games like Call of Duty 3.

Playstation 3 doesn't let you do that.

Xbox 360 is INFINITEY better and INFINITELY more FUN, just because of those better online features.

But the fact that the Xbox 360 versions have better graphics, with more detail, smoother framerates, better lighting, and more advanced shading is great, too.

The games exclusive to the Xbox 360 that are optimized for that hardware are the ones that truly show the difference. Games like Gears of War, Lost Planet, Crackdown, Mass Effect, Bioshock and so many others are games that really do cause the Playstation magazines to say, "Nothing on the Playstation 3 can compare to the best games on the Xbox 360."

Playstation 3 ends up getting remixed versions of old original Xbox games...the way that Ninja Gaiden Sigma on the PS3 is just a remake of the game called Ninja Gaiden Black on the original Xbox. But the Xbox 360 gets the exclusive Ninja Gaiden 2 that EVERYONE is looking forward to!

With Ninja Gaiden Sigma it is a "been there'n'done that" sort of thing, but Ninja Gaiden 2 is where the new action and new technology and new fun is!

We all know that Metal Gear and Final Fantasy are going to be on the Xbox 360, too.

So, that leaves Sony with Killzone 2...but it's like that one guy said, The song about the Playstation 3 brand getting killed says something like, "But killzone 1 sucked before, so what makes you think we want it more." That's true, too, because the first Killzone got CRAPPY reviews, so why would ANYONE want a sequel to such a crappy game.

Xbox 360 launched with great games, one of my favorite of all time, Perfect Dark Zero, with great graphics, awesome multi-player online, and one of the best co-op online modes EVER.

Playstation 3 had a delayed launch, and Resistance Fall of Man only scored a 6 out of 10 on Eurogamer's website, mainly because it isn't innovative, and because it doesn't offer an online co-op mode. That just goes to show that the PS3 really is a HUGE disappointment in Europe, just like in North America and Japan.

Are we really surprised a corporate shill dislikes the competition?! ZOMG! *rolls eyes*
The only reason $ony and M$ both praise Nintendo is because it like kicking the fat kid on the playground...no one thinks it's cool to prey on the underdog.
I enjoy the PSWii60, but the interface on the 360 is WAY to effin' bloated. When I have to wait 20 seconds to get back to the dashboard after a game...something seems amiss there. The PS3 interface is much smoother and quicker. As far as the controller turning off on the PS3 when you update, it's a mild nuisance but I can deal with it over having to wait half a minute to see something on my screen with the 360 after exiting a game. If your controller is turning off and staying off when you exit a game there may be something wrong with your system or controller. The Wii controllers do the same thing when exiting a game and disconnect for a few seconds but then reconnect.

yeah wait to go just because you've go nothing to counter the fact that two of the greatest games of all time are coming to PS3 u just assume they'll come to xbox as well... I think u just proved me right. By the the end of this year we'll see who has the best games.

and by the way if u stopped with your twisted logic and new anything about computing you would know that in a couple of years time the cell broadband engine will be able to do things that xbox can never do, stop living in the present, the PS3 has just launched [resistance vs perfect dark] look at the future and what the cell means for things like physics.

heavenly sword, warhawk, MGS4, Final fantasy, drakes fortune
ratchet and clank, little big planet,
VS.
Halo, bioshock, mass effect, blue dragon

i'm not going to tell u what to think
