Crackdown updates include new multiplayer modes, 'gang reset' option
With a pint of Guinness in his (virtual) belly, Crackdown producer Phil Wilson reluctantly braved a swarm of fanboys eager to squeeze his brain empty of downloadable content details. Wilson's tight-lipped policy didn't last long, and he was quickly charmed by the Eurogamer forum rats, already dropping hints in his first response (a question about aircraft): "airborne antics [are] definitely not off the table going forward."What we know is that Realtime Worlds has created several competitive multiplayer modes, with one being optionally cooperative. Apparently, one of the modes was inspired by a user-created video posted online (GASP, Game 3.0 on Xbox 360?!). Wilson suggested that the creators would "eventually" be credited for the idea, adding that many of the videos popping up on YouTube (particularly this one) had impressed the development team. The new modes will likely be limited to two players, though Wilson teased that "the prospect of mass co-op is definitely an exciting one."
Wilson also confirmed that a free update will include a 'reset gangs' option, eliminating the frustrating need to delete the game data (or your Gamertag) from the hard drive in order to start over. Wilson apologized for the oversight and added, "while I'm spilling beans, there's also another great mode that I'm pretty sure is also kinda what you're asking for but a whole lot more -- so I hope that goes some way towards compensation." Could you be anymore vague?

You can already reset the game in options. Unless I have some sort of crazy forward-future-time copy.

A cross between Crackdown and Battlefield 2 would be an AWSOME game mode. 24+ Multiplayer online that is. Super-human soldiers able to scale buildings to capture rooftop flags. Able to kill opponents by throwing a truck on them. Map checkpoints (or hidden orbs) to boost strength and agility. Sniping from a 30 story bulding. Able to jump over 20ft walls to find cover. With full strength, have the ability to rip your opponents arms off. THAT WOULD BE THE ULTIMATE!

@1
Maybe he means the bosses as well. You can turn 'crime' back on, but the bosses do not return.
Ken @ Mar 27th 2007 2:03PM
LOL @2
I like how you randomly added ripping of the arms off in that equation... Lol.
NomBomB @ Mar 27th 2007 2:09PM
all i wanted were "super" bosses that didnt just stand there and let you kill them... and 5 star abilities.
if the bosses weren't confined to their little area, and could run, jump, and shoot, like you can, it'd be a lot more interesting.

Yea for new content! Now give me the ability to use the Scud missle launcher in the game and I'll be happy for life. Take out the whole city with one shot. :)
Arno @ Mar 27th 2007 2:26PM
Just give me the remaining 100 gamerpoints so that I have another game to boast 1000 points on. So far I only have Oblivion... :/
Intentless @ Mar 27th 2007 2:29PM
arno play enchanted arms and psu king kong those are pretty straight forward and any tips for finding agility orbs i need seven and can not find them to save my life!!!!
Taylor @ Mar 27th 2007 2:30PM
Did he give any hint on when all this stuff is coming? I want it now!
Intentless @ Mar 27th 2007 2:40PM
Key term in his sentence is reset not turn on or off...
Shmil @ Mar 27th 2007 2:55PM
i'd like to be able to rip people's arms off in crackdown, in fact i'd like to do some other melee beside kicking then and bashing them with a gun
Ken @ Mar 27th 2007 2:58PM
@Intentless
If you join a friend's game that just started, if you collect an agility orb from there you get them too. At least from what I can tell.
Intentless @ Mar 27th 2007 3:05PM
Yeah you get them there but you can only see the ones you haven't gotten yet and vice versa you can't get them again if you already grabbed them in a previous game.
Squints @ Mar 27th 2007 3:12PM
Gangs. I need to lay off the beer lunches.
rom @ Mar 27th 2007 3:21PM
@Rob Holiday
Capture the flag sounds like a mighty fine idea for this game.
why not the LS2LS7? @ Mar 27th 2007 3:29PM
If you've played two player, you konw the network code is already overtaxed. Multi-way is not in the cards.
To be honest, the game is a thin (but fun) veneer on top of Renderware. I doubt the developers are going to be able to make major structural changes in a patch, given that they didn't even do so for the first release.
Still, there are a lot of simple but fun modes they can surely add. Like "blow shit up" or "launch a friend" mode, as implied above (game videos comment).
mike @ Mar 27th 2007 4:04PM
Th game has lost its luster to me. I think they should of just hd 1000 points at game launch. And all these cool ideas for multiplayer, why were these not added with the final game?
At least My disc is still good for halo 3 beta when it comes out.
todd @ Mar 27th 2007 4:11PM
Send it our way soon or I'm selling this game off if not... just collecting dust right now. Gotta unload it before the beta, afterwards the resell price will drop big time. Or maybe they are gonna wait closer to the beta date just so people hold onto the title a bit longer?
Ryan @ Mar 27th 2007 4:14PM
Give me a boss worthy of a superagent and a 50ft jumping height and I'll be more than happy.
Ryan @ Mar 27th 2007 4:16PM
Oh, and PLEASE fix the camera. As in let me adjust the speed and let me adjust it better when using the SUV to climb up walls.
Seroth @ Mar 27th 2007 4:27PM
I hope for a "reset hidden orbs" option, too. It's pissing me off that I have 299 out of 300, and it's even harder to look for them, since they're no longer there.
WetWired @ Mar 27th 2007 11:39PM
Give me split screen co=-p so I have an excuse to buy this rather than just borrowing it from friends
Jeff @ Mar 28th 2007 1:55PM
I bought the game mostly for the halo 3 beta. I played it and enjoyed it alot, even with it's shortness. BUT I would not have bought it without the halo 3 beta, UNLESS it had local SPLIT-SCREEN Multiplayer. I was really disappointed that it didn't have it. I have been looking for split screen games to play with my brother, but many of the games that would be awesome with split screen coop don't have it.
RUSKULL @ Mar 29th 2007 10:33AM
Please fix co-op. I still cannot connect with friends. Yes, this only happens with this game.
Wurtel @ Apr 5th 2007 11:39AM
I guess they will never fix it, guess it's back to some multiplayer site to find some free multiplayer games: http://www.onlinegamesinn.com
