New York Cooking Mama event at Rockefeller Center
As part of the launch for Cooking Mama: Cook Off on the Wii, Majesco is holding a little cook off celebration of their own. On March 31 at the Nintendo World Store in New York's Rockefeller Center, Majesco will host an event from 11 AM until 4 PM. There will be snacks, competitions featuring Cooking Mama and winners will acquire a copy of the game. Everyone who attends the event will receive a Cooking Mama apron while supplies last. It's the perfect event to bring a little sibling, niece, nephew or even your own child to. Then again, that's what everyone else who reads this is thinking. Beware the hardcore Cooking Mama fanboys, they may look innocent, but they know how to wield a Wiimote like a knife -- ALLEZ CUISINE!

I cannot believe why people think this is such a cool game. Cooking Mama. The name says all. Don't try to defend it, this game is what my little sister would play. Its in the same category as Barbie adventures.

Iron Chef (the original) rocks!! I loved that show. A cooking video game, not so much.
Yoshi Likes Boys @ Mar 27th 2007 8:54AM
Stop teasing me with an Iron Chef game starring Jean Valjean. That would truly be the height of the Wii. USE THE WIIMOTE TO EAT THE ONION!

Cooking Mama was an interesting gameplay design... for $20. $50 has "fuck you, I'll wait for Super Paper Mario" written all over it.
Wort @ Mar 27th 2007 9:13AM
Someone please explain how Cooking Mama is worth $50 dollars? Please, try your best. Im listening.

It gots a LADY'S NAME what that's in the title!
I can feel my testicles shriveling as I type this...think Metal Gear Solid! My Metal Gear is Solid!

because the game is very fun to some people and everyone has a right to have their own opinion on what video game they are willing to spend their $50 on?

Ya know, with cooking momma, an Iron Chef game doesn't sound so bad. Might even be pretty cool. WHO DO I PITCH THIS IDEA TOO!? I've actually got a good amount of how an Iron Chef game might work figured out in my head...

Because Nintendo says you'll like it. And they're always right.

Jack: Your trolling gimmick is SO OLD.

It'd be in the same category as Barbie Adventures... if Barbie Adventures were fun in the least. And not part of a toy franchise originally.
All I'm saying is: don't knock it 'till you've tried it.
That being said, I'm in the same boat as the rest here pretty much. $50 for this is excessive when the DS game is $10 now. When it drops down to the $25 range I'll get it.

ahh yes, the hardcore gamers, Ya'll should have a motto "We sh!t on any game that doesn't cater to us,cuz if we don't like it, it's not a game!"
PhrawzT @ Mar 27th 2007 10:58AM
It's a game that has appeal outside of the hardcore guy gamer circle. My friend Megan loves that game. There was a joke going around many years ago that an Iron Chef game in development for the original playstaton.

You've... played it, right? Obviously someone willing to go all out in defense of a game at least touched stylus on screen on this title, right?
To call it a game is like calling those "Punch a Monkey, get an iPod" banner ads the greatest flash games of all time. Let me break it down for you.
You start out with 8 recipes. Each recipe is between 1-7 activities each. Let me describe these activities for you. Let's do instant ramen first since that's a single step recipe. You press a button to start the water and press it again to stop the water. That's it. Cutting vegetable, just follow the line. Most activities are so damn pedestrian, it harkens to Flash banner ads.
Now if any game was a nongame, this is certainly it. So as I stated before, it's a fun distraction but not a game. So for $20, I'm all over it. But for $50? Hell, the licensed shit being funneled onto the system seems a better deal.
Slaziman @ Mar 27th 2007 1:37PM
It's really funny that you say that sheppy, because at IGN there is a Cooking Mama flash banner that makes you cut a tomato.
hvnlysoldr @ Mar 27th 2007 1:44PM
As much as I like the original Iron Chef, the new American one is good with Mr. Wizard Alton Brown. One of the appeals of Iron Chef are these luxury foods where the main ingredients can be thousands. Where they regularly have foies-gras, truffles, and caviar what have you. A cooking game with those experiences and an announcer and judges and everything would be so cool.
Region2 @ Mar 27th 2007 2:20PM
Mama loves me best! I'm doing this for you mama!
Tanster @ Mar 27th 2007 3:48PM
The game looks pretty fun, the buzz about it is pretty spectacular for such a small game.
Darrel @ Mar 27th 2007 3:54PM
Is anyone here going? I know I'm. I will be the guy playing Cooking Mama on his DS
Vegan @ Mar 27th 2007 5:07PM
Cooking Mama isn't worth $50, but the entire article is about an event where you can easily win a copy for free.
Gavin @ Mar 27th 2007 5:08PM
Cooking Mama is at 63.9% on GameRankings.com and most of the reviews say it isn't worth paying the full price for. Of course, most Nintendo fans will tell you to ignore the review totals on such sites unless it has to do with Zelda.
Mr Khan @ Mar 27th 2007 5:21PM
@ AirIntake
no, because Majesco (and Taito in Japan) think we will pay $50 for it
Anyway, it seems like a fun game, and if you have the people for the multiplayer, definitely worth it
Otherwise, i would say, wait for the bargain bin on this one
@ Gavin, yes, i would say to ignore the ratings for games, because i'm ready to kill the critics over what they did to Sonic and the Secret Rings, Critics are the one's killing off SEGA games, as much as SEGA themselves
Yes; most critically acclaimed games deserve that acclaim (see: Gears, Zelda), but you'll miss a lot of gems that way
