I would be nice if this news sparked a price war.

Sony already offers a price cut in the US...go to Sony Style and get the Sony Credit Card...they'll give you a $100 credit with your first purchase.

Wow, this combined with the breaking of the street dates shows some serious reserve Euro retailers have with Sony. Retailers don't rush the gate or put up sales in the first week of a product's life unless they're worried it won't sell. Anyone can break MSRP but they only do so when the volume of the resulting sale will outweigh the profits lower sales at full MSRP will bring in. They've been doing it for the 20gb model in Japan for months. I'm surprised you're reporting on this, it is definitely not good news.

They're not far from me, used them a couple of times but they're not interested in the console market so if they can get hold of a hundred units and pull a little stunt like this then its doing them no harm and anyone picking up a unit at £25 ($45) less than RRP isnt going to complain im sure.
