I first saw Nights exactly around the time Mario 64 ( I was around 10 maybe 11) came out and from the first instance I was completely and utterly spellbound by not only the incredibly atmospheric and richly detailed graphics but by the magnificent soundtrack and incredible game play. It was actually so good I convinced my father to take back a Saturn Steering Wheel just so I could get this game and the Analog Thumb Pad it came with. My fathers purchase made a lasting impact on me. I could remember how creative and invigoratingly the art in Nights was and how incredible the game was at making it seem like you were truly in a dream world. Even to this day it is a truly wonderful game, and surprisingly it still looks good though a tad bit dated. I just hope if Nights 2 comes out it captures the true essence of what made Nights into Dreams so appealing and fun...the sense of freedom while flying amid both dream and nightmare. While I hope it isn't exclusive to the Wii I do hope that wherever it lands (or flies) it is as strong of a game as the original Nights, which was truly without a doubt a masterpiece.

His outfit suggests some sort of special appearance in Kingdom Hearts 3. It also looks like his weapon will be an invisible flute.

It's been pointed out that this is an April issue. But given how ONM explicitly said their exclusive is not an April Fools joke, there's a good chance this could be it... or not... gah, stop toying with my emotions, NiGHTS!

@2

Agreed! In addition, "his" long, luscious eyelashes and lack of a bulge seem to indicate that somebody has recently become fabulous.

I have heard amazing thing about NiGHTS, but have never played it. The only thing keeping me from trying it is my lack of a Saturn...

There's a 'skin flute' gag in there somewhere, but frankly, it's below me.
...actually, it's not; I just can't think of a good enough one.

Anyhoo...yay! But is it too early to start pestering Sega to include the original NiGHTS on this new disc?
Christmas NiGHTS would rock, too. I never played that one.
Maybe if the internets start jibbering about how great that would be at the same time, Sega'll get the message. Hell, they ARE bringing back NiGHTS, after all.

Don't worry son, "hollywood tough guy with guns" and "boobie babe" are still there for you in at least 200 new game releases this year. Just the same trusty old archetypes like you've been used to for years and years and years. No danger of anything scary and different.

@ A person

You can try searching google for a Saturn Emulator GiriGiri, Cassini, or SSF. Then you could find a NiGHTS t o r r e n t somewhere out in cyberspace. Then use a CD/DVD emulator tool like Daemon Tools and mount the image. Then make sure your PC is very fast and get a decent analog and you'll be able to play it at probably 80% speed or you could Ebay a Saturn but they seem to be extremely expensive. Good Luck, but the game is worth trying out. I own NiGHTS and Christmas NiGHTS.

Saturn? Expensive? I wouldn't say that...

I got one, perhaps over a year ago, from a local used video/book/music/game/etc. store, for about $40. It had the system, a controller, Daytona USA, Virtua Fighter 2, and a Panzer Dragoon demo.

Though, that may be the exception to the rule [shrugs].

I am both hopeful and cautious about this new NiGHTS game. On one hand, I'm glad to see the series finally revitalized in true form. On the other hand, I fear it being terribly broken.

Only time will tell.

They really need to bring Saturn games to the VC. I'd love to play some shoot'em up games like Virtua Cop with a Wii Remote. And Panzer Dragoon ... come on!

NiGHTS can't come soon enough.

Again, we see this bias against the modern Sega. Don't think of it as the SEGA of Shadow the Hedgehog, but as the SEGA of the awesome Sonic and the Secret Rings... Seriously psyched for this, though
its Nights, reborn!

The new outfit officially kills it's rumor status. That looks a little too elaborate for a joke. Which is good news, although I would prefer a new Jet Set Radio, Panzer Dragoon, or even a sequel to Chakan.

Saturn's aren't that expensive on eBay.
http://video-games.search.ebay.com/sega-saturn_Systems_W0QQcatrefZC12QQfrppZ50QQfsooZ1QQfsopZ1QQmaxrecordsreturnedZ300QQsacatZ62054
There's an auction up there right now, ending in about an hour, Saturn with 18 games for about $60.

I got my (current) Saturn off eBay a while ago for $40 and it came with 15 games.

Fingers crossed on this one, for any console. Also hoping Sega doesn't screw it up completely in the process.

Hey guys... I know quite a few of you weren't gaming when NiGHTS first made an appearance...

http://img407.imageshack.us/img407/5885/nights04ks5.png

But as you can see, he was always like that. I can't be surprised... nobody likes to study history it seems, and I'd give a 50% chance any given person commenting started gaming after the Saturn died.

Yeah, because the rule is you can't lie when somebody asks you if it's an April Fool's joke. Kind of like how narcs have to tell you they're cops if you ask, right?

"The new outfit officially kills it's rumor status."

The only thing new about his outfit is the collar and the detailing on his pants. See here: http://www.mobygames.com/images/covers/large/1036385036-00.jpg

Still, I think this is more likely than not real. But there's nothing clinching it. Lots of people do 3D models and lots of people would be able to figure out how to do those extra little details. The fact that the cover was taken down and replaced with the shadow cover actually makes it *more* likely a joke, not less. They're playing with us.

I'd give it 51% chance real, 49% joke. I wouldn't be surprised in either case. But there's nothing definitively pointing either way.

on the gamereactor page http://www.gamereactor.se/nyheter/10115/Gamereactor+%2346/ it says :

-
Uppdatering:
Sega gillade inte heller vårt andra omslag. Så nu får ni istället spana in det som är här nedan tills dess att tidningen når butikerna. Hemlighetsfullt va?
-

which means "sega did not not like our other cover. so now you'll have to do with the cover below until the magazine hits the stores. secretive huh?"

the magazine is out 10.april.
so the way i understand it, the magazine will still feature the original nights drawing, but they probably jumped some kind of gag contract with sega by showing anything about nights 2 prior to 10.april, which they afterwards had to take back.

I'm a big fan of nights too, but seriously I would much rather Sega finish Shenmue. I mean its a story that's not complete.... To be honest I would even be happy if they just release the rest of the story as a graphic novel or movie, anything is better than a cliffhanger that goes on for years without any hint of it ever being resolved....ERRR

i'm really hoping this isn't an april fools joke. i remember watching my older cousin play this game when i was younger. probably about 8 or 9. he let me play but i didn't understand it. either way, it still looked like alot of fun and i would love to give it another shot. here's hoping they wouldn't toy with our emotions that much lol.
