I've read reports from claimed internal EA reps that the HD Eyetoy exists and is ready to roll out in April. The Sony one is supposed to include Z axis capability and infrared sensors (I'm not a geek so I don't know what all that means).

Phil, as recently as Mar 16th said the HD Eye Toy was 'coming soon'.

I could see the camera being used to put your face on your rival's car if you take him out, or some concept close to that.
I take you out, then you're stuck with my face on your car until you get revenge, then your face is on my car.
Either that, or a customized Burnout minigame avatar.
That's my guess.

@3

The innovation/gimmick of the game is that instead of selecting the card from an on-screen menu, you physically put the card in front of the camera. Would you really say that's an innovation? You're kind of swinging at shadows.

I imagine that in multiplayer games there will be a window where you can see your opponents, like in some Xbox Live Arcade games. Honestly I kinda like that, it allows me to make rude gestures at my friends.

There needs to be more camera support for new games to make the purchase worthwhile.

As for "Eye of Judgement," I kinda thought that was a cool integration of the camera... it reminded me of the crazy soccer-coach sim I saw tons of people playing in Japanese arcades, with cards and video games intermingling:

(The match is played and looks like FIFA or Winning Eleven, but you only make on-the-fly coaching decisions from the sidelines... Image from a blog called 'The Cynical Traveler')

And I have to side with Zamfir, if it was some crazy Wii title it might not be branded as 'gimmicky' around these parts, but rather anticipated with giddy excitement.

Gimmick or innovation it IS a good business idea. As opposed to other online card games, this one allows you to buy tangible cards you can actually sell when you're done with the game. This means players are more likely to purchase the cards resulting in bigger profits. Players don't get screwed paying for virtual goods that vanish when they're done playing the game and the publisher can sell more booster packs.

Wow... that article's train of thought got derailed several times over.

"Burnout has camera support! Why? I dunno.. but Sony had an HD cam once. There was a game for cards though, was meh. It can use anything though. Even an xbox cam. When's lunch? I once saw a dog with three legs..."
