Chris, that article is old and wrong in so many ways.

First of all, it's HDCP that is the Manchurian Candidate, not HDMI.

Second, he says HDMI isn't cheap? He says the PS3 is $500 without HDMI and $600 with it? That's ancient info. Even the $500 PS3 has HDMI. And now, a 360 has it for $480.

Getting HDCP capability isn't very expensive, the only people it is expensive for is people who didn't do research and bought TVs without it. I bought a TV with it in 2002. And I made sure I had it, that's why I didn't buy a TV earlier.

Anyway, the most illogical thing you're saying is that you read that article and say "well, I don't want HDMI (HDCP)!". Why is that? The ICT doesn't affect people who have HDCP, it only affects those WHO DON'T.

So why would you want to not have it?

I agree it's all BS. I'd like the ICT dead. As well as the AACS and DVDCCA restrictions about upconverting over component. But barring that, I know the way to be safe is to have a machine that does HDCP.

Sony People will never Understand That a Hardwire is better for uninterupted Gaming. I could care less about a WI-Fi. That why Sonys free crap online service sucks and can never be compared to 360. As for the bigger hard drive it doesn't matter to me becaues I live in Canada and we don't get all the downloadable content available to the USA. Until that becomes available I'm not interested and until I get a HDTV 1080p, HDMI Doesn't matter either. And as for the format wars there is one thing that everybody is not seeing. Downloads people. The Ipod is proof. I don't know the stats but I would bet there is more Downloads in Music and Movies then what's coming out of your Blockbuster. Disk will be a thing of the past. i know the PS3 is going to get better, i never argued against that. the fanboy in you automatically assumed i did because you're a young fanboy.

the point is, buying the PS3, to play GAMES, for $600 in 2007 was a mistake. the same mistake you did. the 360 was a better, more complete platform the day it came out in 2005 and remains so.

until PS3 catches up on its 1st party games, completes its online system, introduces rumble back, and ships with Home, ("gets better" as you say) all at a reduced price...this will still be the case.

the reason the PS3 came out so late was because of Blu-Ray diodes, but the hardware was finalized.

what's the software and online ability's excuse? xbox live was there day one in 2005, and in 2007, a year and a half later and $200 more, sony isn't even close to where 360 was in march 2006.

the elite is just another version of the 360 for people who plan on downloading a lot of HD movies (see, choice again).

for the last time, the Premium will remain the main SKU/model of the 360, nothing is getting 'replaced'.

if Premium owners want the extra space the elite has, they can. HDMI isn't a 'feature' sorry, its a connector. it doesn't change what resolutions the 360 supports.

Not to throw too much fuel onto the fire but Sony had a press release that was actually pretty good for once.

i have a ps3 and 360 the ps3 will always win the hdd battle because you can use a regular computer hddto upgrade it you can get 500gb off e-bay for $180 or you can get xboxs 120gb for $180. you do the math sony wins. and i like my ps3 more than my xbox and if it wont for exclusives games i wouldnt own a 360.

until those teams you talk about come out with games you can't technically do on 360, it's still all talk.

all the exclusives that have crossed-over (gta 4, assasin's creed, mercenaries 2, devil may cry 4...etc.) all prove different, and these are rockstar, ubisoft, pandemic/bioware and capcom. top of the industry studios.

i'm sure they will take advantage of blu-ray and cell with Sony's 1st party games, but the actual difference won't show anytime soon. plus, "all that junk" won't be as expensive when it finally does begin to show.

again, not a knock on their quality, they will be great, but you can't exactly say Sony's games are all NEW: Turismo is going on 5, Ico is going on 3, GoW is going on 3, Socom is going on 6....

ok so am i the only one that realizes that the 360 is just a rehashed xbox? i mean if they really wanted to be next gen they'd have an internal hd-dvd player that way developers can create games on that format. i mean the games are still just dual layer dvds. the playstation lines has progressed with every system from cd to dvd on to bluray. it just makes sense. ps3's only fault is that it doesn't upscale dvds yet (they're working on a firmware update tho). the ps3 is the reason that bluray is gonna win the format war.

And in the another thread everyone was complaining about no HDMI on the 360, well here it is. Does the PS3 come with an HDMI cable? No it does not, and a basic HDMI cable itself (just look anywhere on the net) is approx. $100 alone. As for the 120Gb HDD price, I am not defending it but we are required to step out of our literal box for a moment and realize that the 360 uses a custom_compact_HDD under all that plastic which is similar to a laptop HDD. Anyone on here ever purchase a laptop HDD? I suspect not because if you have you will realize that it costs nearly twice as much as a standard, bulky full size (physical) HDD. Did they add some on the price to make a profit? Sure, but isn't that the nature of business? I am only pointing out that they are not "ass raping" like the haters on here seem to want everyone to believe.

I went to Target this morning with the hope of finding an Xbox 360 Elite in stock. I had a printout of many of the electronics stores in the area in case I had to drive from one to the other in search of a console. I got there at 8:10 AM and since the store opened at 8 I figured I was too late. I didn't see any scruffy looking, geeky, 18 to 35 year olds so I figured there had been a mad rush already and I was too late. Still I hurried to the electronics section and found a line of about 10 people with 5 or so people milling around. I had gone to this particular store in Culver City the night before and I was told there were only 6 in stock so I figured even though they hadn't been sold out they would be before I had a chance to buy one. I asked the two people at the end of the line if this line was for the Xbox 360 Elite. One guy in his early 20's turned and said he was there for the Nintendo Wii. An older lady probably in her 40's turned and said she was waiting for whatever the new console was (huh?) I looked over the counter which had three people at the register (this was the camera/register section in the electronics area) and saw a bunch of Wii boxes. I was a little confused. There seemed to be a delay and soon someone walked up with more boxes of Wii's. A few minutes later one of the sales reps called out "Is anyone here for the Xbox 360?" I hesitated for a moment and then raised my hand. Out of the 15 or so people in the area I was the only person who raised my hand. On the release day of the XBOX 360 Elite, at 8 in the morning, with a gathering of about 15 people, it appeared I was the only person who wanted an Xbox 360 Elite instead of a Nintendo Wii. The sales rep waved me to his register (the other register was apparently devoted to Wii's). There was a young Asian couple also there and they purchased an Xbox first. I looked over the counter and saw all of the Xbox's Elites sitting there. The sales rep said he was surprised people were buying these. I explained to him the advantages of the Elite and he replied, "Oh, I didn’t know it had an HDMI connection". I purchased my Elite and walked out. I passed a few people with Wii's in their bag. There were 4 Elite's in the store when I left. I wonder how many Wii’s Target will sell today before all of the Elite’s are purchased.

All you lil whining cry babies need a life ... its only 80 dollars more for a 120 gb HD and an HDMI port. NOT $200. All the lil sony fan boys are just mad that Sony Ps3 sucks. I heard even the new metal gear solid wont be a Sony exclusive anymore. GTA and MGS on xbox 360 gives me a reason to never own a PS3. Add Halo 3 to the mix and it looks like PS3 is the new Sega Saturn.
