I'll gladly buy this HDD when it reaches a somewhat reasonable pricepoint ($100-130). Until then, I'm sticking with my 20 gig. Both hard drives are ridiculously overpriced. I urge those of you who aren't okay with this to abstain from buying the 120gb HDD until it reaches a reasonable price. Otherwise, Microsoft will think it's acceptable to price their accessories at such an outrageously inflated price.

Although I may UNDERSTAND why it's $179.95, I do not believe the price replaces the convenience of just deleting old demos.

The only thing more ridiculous than $180 for 120 gigs is $100 for 20 gigs, which was a shame and a black eye on our system to begin with. The fact that we've been only offered a shitty deal on hard drives and are now offered a slightly less objectionable deal doesn't make the new drive a good deal at all. I really don't understand how this pricing structure is a positive for MS at all.

I think its pretty obvious that the extreme price is a ploy to convince gamers to purchase a second xbox 360 instead of upgrading.

I don't get these comparisons between the 20GB price and the 120GB price. We HAD to pay $99 for the 20GB - that was the price of admission if you wanted a hard drive. You were basically paying $40 buck for the drive (approximate retail price for the drive at the time) and another $60 for the proprietary MS packaging.

Fast forward to the present. A 120GB notebook
runs about $80 retail, so at $180 MS is essentially charging us $100 for the packaging that they used to charge $60 for. Of course they will pay less than retail for the drive, but you get the idea.

Given the cost of materials and the benefit that MS gains by users having lots of space available for purchased HD content, even $150 would be a "premium" price, but I would have been willing to pay it as it represents a nearly proportionate increase based on the cost of the notebook hard drive. $180 is just greedy and I'm not going to bite.

Not only am I not buying an Elite or a separate 120 GB HD, I'm bringing my "Premium" console to EB for a credit TOMORROW.

I'm sorry, but I'm not a Halo guy, and I can live without Mass Effect.. and I could care less about anything else... my PS3 will take care of those needs.

Microsoft; a year ago I thought you had all your ducks in a row.... but owning both of these consoles (In CANADA no less, where we don't even GET content to fill 120GBs in the first place.. nice going) is starting to open my eyes to who really is ready for the future, Sony.

You boys got scared and didn't include a hard drive in every box like you should have for game cache (BIG mistake), and now you're showing fear again by releasing an HDMI "elite" machine and a ridiculously overpriced HD for us losers who bit first and gave you the lead you're going to lose. You're going to confuse mainstream consumers too... GOOD LUCK getting to 100 million sold with this mess.

500 for my premium + 60 last years live + 200 new hard drive = wait a minute... I thought this was supposed to be cheaper than my PS3? Thats what everybody keeps telling me. And I haven't even touched the HD - DVD add on yet. Yuck.

I'll get a boatload of credit on this and spend it all on PS3 games for quite some time. Screw this. I hope Halo is DAMN good for the rest of you.

$400 360 Premium
+$200 HD DVD drive
+$40 Vision Camera
+$80 Wireless Headset
+$30 Battery Charger
+$12 Extra Battery
+$40 Wired Controller
+$??? 8 or so games

I was kind of interested in the new HDD. I know I didn't HAVE to buy all that stuff but I just cant justify spending close to $200 more dollars. I could almost buy a Wii for that. Now that I think about it I could've saved up all that for a down payment on a new car, lol.

damn, most of you are a bunch of complaining bitches.

Microsoft is offering you options, options of what console to buy, what you would like to add to it; Those are all offered to you as a choice. Microsoft is not cramming it down your throat, but yes they do get to set the prices. That is the glory of owning a company, and companies are in the business to make money so they can support their staff and bring more items to the market!

Quit bitching about a new console sku, are you all new to technology?? Holy crap new gear comes out for our computers every 5 minutes, yet I dont see everybody here bitching about a new sku of a laptop each time its brought to market. All three sku's play the same games!

If this is going to make you go buy a PS3 right now, go and buy one. Buy the one or two good games for it and play online, oh wait, their online is no where near XBL. No content to download, just a piece of crap and do not bring up Home. Home is not out yet and so if your going to smack down XBL for charging $50 a year for it bring something to the table...oh wait you don't have anything, so again STFU.

I didnt know so many readers of xbox 360 fanboy had MBA's.

@27-
"I just checked newegg.com ; You can get 500GB for less than $129.99 -- the pricing of the new HD is retarded."

Compare apples to apples. You can't get a 500gb sata 2.5" drive. You can get a 160 gb drive for about $100-120 though. This drive could've been $200 so I'm glad it was cheaper than that but it really ought to be $120-$150 not >$150.
