Core Metal Gear Solid 4 cast announced: Hayter's a player again
As if hearing the collective cries of those tossing and turning in their beds, gripped by the nightmare of having the English Metal Gear Solid 4 cast be comprised of Pauly Shore, Gilbert Gottfried and Macy Gray, comes Konami and their announcement of the game's core voice cast. David Hayter, whose vocal chords can effortlessly grind cinder blocks to dust, unsurprisingly reprises his role of Solid Snake, lending some world weariness to the protagonist as he strangles inept soldiers, babbles into his codec and asks why nobody is telling him the damn truth. (You can sample the man's voice for yourself in the latest Kojima Productions Report podcast.)Returning as Roy Campbell is Paul Eiding, who will once again regale you with tales of "the famous purple stuffed worm in flap-jaw space with the tuning fork," as well as mention his unusual and unexpected desire for scissors. Rounding out the core cast is Christopher Randalph playing Hal "Otacon" Emmerich and Quinton Flynn portraying the widely reviled, androgynous nudist-turned-ninja, Raiden.
With Metal Gear Solid 4's over-the-top plot still a closely guarded secret, no other English character voices have been announced. Cam Clarke ("Liquid?") seems a sure bet, as do most of the great actors from the previous games. After all, there's no indication that Hideo Kojima's PS3 game ("so far") will be anything less than an "expertly crafted and customized" experience.
(See? Our clever choice of video still leaves us in the clear in case it's a disappointment.)

We can start the betting pool on when they make the multiplatform announcement.

THANK GOD!!

Hayter was good in MGS1. In MGS2 and MGS3 he sounded different, though--gayer, if you will.

Ah.... Not many things as amusing as someone trying to look tough-as-nails in a freaking GLAMOUR SHOT!! I wonder if he got that done at Sears... LOL!!
Intentless @ Mar 29th 2007 1:48PM
Actually.... Wait in car... Why don't you wait in the car... (Nothing personal just couldn't resist) That looks like an average headshot/promo shot that is used in the performance industry....
mccomber @ Mar 29th 2007 1:48PM
Wow, Snake will never sound the same again. He looks just like a guy I used to work with who was big into renaissance fairs and generally creepiness.

i wish he looked more like snake...b/c itd suck to see that in the movie. (whenever that comes out) glad to hear he's back for mgs4 though.

I NEED SCISSORS! 61!!!
But seriously. Hayter is amazing.
Todd @ Mar 29th 2007 2:27PM
What about the movie, dammit? I want to know if Hayter is going to be acting, or at least, lending his voice.

Ha... yeah I know. And I think the vast majority of those "professional" promo shots look absolutely ridiculous, mostly due to the subject trying way too hard to look "cool" as in this instance.
Despite the "I wish I were Glenn Danzig" mug though, this guy's got an outstanding voice.

David Hayter is a really cool guy, and if any of you are interested in seeing how he looks in person, in video, here are two clips that I made with him back in September, 2006. He also gave me his first ever take on "Old Snake" from Metal Gear Solid 4 (though that's not in the video). It's cool. Basically, think Solid Snake and add a little more gruff/raspy-ness, and lower it a bit.

Not to beat a dead horse but... When your in a professional shoot... How well do you keep calm? Cameras pick up every little nuance of your facial expression... Being photogenic is not a talent its a gift... Some have it some don't...
DeezNuts420 @ Mar 29th 2007 4:36PM
Is this for the PS3 or XBOX360 version?
stracenska @ Mar 29th 2007 5:31PM
it's weird how david hayter is as much a voice actor as he is a hollywood hotshot. he wrote X-men movie and the hulk(he might be uncredited, can't remember) and was at one point going to direct the Watchmen, but now he's just writing it. oh, and the scorpion king, egh.
Phil @ Mar 29th 2007 7:22PM
All I know is that it's going to be so hard to not buy a PS3 when that game comes out. I don't know what I'm going to do with myself (probably be $700 poorer).
Varzen @ Mar 29th 2007 11:32PM
?!
Wish I had that...
I actually REALLY liked "White Devil" Raiden in Metal Gear Solid 2-- he was a really excellent foil to seen-it-all-shot-most-of-it Snake, a great contrast... and now the superninja gets to protect the old wheezer. Just...take off the ninja helmet, the hair was sweet.
Can't wait to see Roy Campbell back in action, too...
