Will this really require a pre-order?

I thought MS was supposed to have some big announcement last night at midnight. Supposed to be on the same magnitude as the Elite announcement. Anyone hear anything? I can't find any info on any web site. What's up with this?

It's not a limited edition and most people have Premiums or Cores already. I'm pretty confident I'll be able to walk into an EBGames that Sunday morning and pick one up.

Rob: The annoucement had nothing to do with the 360. They announced "Deepfish" which is just a new browser for Mobile phones. Considering the 360 people are easily "baited" they used it to draw attention to it.

I really hope this console flops.. I know you can argue for both sides for early adopters whether this is good or bad.. but man do I feel like the poor cousin now instead of the Premium man I once was..

I'm still going to hold out for the 65nm CPU's. Then I will upgrade to the Elite with the 120GB HD.

I really see nothing to be excited about with the Elite unless interested gamers haven't yet bought a 360 at all. There is no news that te Elite runs cooler, and that was my only large interest in 'swapping' units.

A friend has a bricked Premium and is dealing now with Best Buy and his warranty there..apparently they give you credit towards a replacement unit under that situation and he told me today he plans to purchase the Elite with it. In his case I'd say that's a no-brainer, but for all of us that have perfectly fine consoles, it's stupid and a waste of good gaming $$$ to trade to.

GameStop only offers you about $220 for the Premium and 20GB HDD..you'd have to make up the diff on your own, which I would rather spend on Mass Effect, Alan Wake, Bioshock..the list goes on and on.

I agree Stephen. I don't think we will have a hard time finding these on Sunday. If I do, its off to the nearest small town. When the Xbox 360 launched, my small town Wal Mart had at least 3 in stock.

@Sharpblade

Are you really that hurt over this? It's not like you won't be playing the same games on your Premium as you can on the Elite. Last I checked, the games were the important part of video gameing.

The Elite doesn't change a damn thing as far as the games are concerned.

@Les Doodis
Thank you! What is up with these people? X3F has been posting for the last few days about the elite and all the while the only thing people can come up with is "I got ripped off". IF they would just pay attention they would see that HDMI will soon be availible to non "Elite" owners. And trade in ur 20 gig for some credit and buy the new HDD. Quit your bitchin'

@LesDoodis:
It does make a difference when you have a TV that will not accept 1080p except thru a DVI or HDMI connector. As far as games are concerned you are correct, until they start doing 1080p native games (a couple out already) then it will effect my gaming. But for movies it effects me now.

@thatisandwas:

Are you telling me somehow MS can magically make the 360 output in digital? The 360 has the ANA scaler chip so it will never be able to produce a digital signal(MS own words!). Converting an analog signal thru some upconverting box to digital will not produce as good as a signal coming straight digital. Stop drinking the kool-aid man!

I found the 360 Elite available for pre-order at Circuitcity.com ........$479.99 is too much money to throw down on a pre-order though.....too bad GameStop and EBgames aren't pre-ordering them since you would only have to throw down a small amount of money to reserve one.....I don't have a 360 yet but I've really been wanting one.....I can't understand why there is no 65nm chip in the Elite though? .....I hope it is not the same exact internal parts as the original because I dont want to deal with the RROD.....has anyone heard if there will be better internal ventilation or better fan cooling than the previous model?

I was told that there is now preorder because they dont expect a huge rush to the stores. remember, alot of people already have 360 and that this is just a different BUNDLE not system.
