Students get their lessons from a PSP
Children at a secondary school in Birmingham, UK will soon receive a variety of tailor-made lessons via PlayStation Portable. Teachers have been trained how to use the PSP to watch videos, download pictures, and play their own podcasts. The trial begins just after Easter and will continue through the end of the year. If the experiment is a success plans are to extend it to more schools in the area.Think students will start sneaking games into class? The teachers disagree, saying it would be "very obvious if anyone tried to load games onto them". They're right. It's hard to sit through long load times without breaking furniture.

this more or less already happens at my college. they use those new digital whiteboard tablet things hooked up to their laptops. everything written on that board during the lesson is available online to do what you want. its very helpful, especially if you miss the class.

thats just weird... why not just give out pdas instead? its relatively the same price, and you can probably can run more programs for school on it.

Cause Sony's sponsoring the program?

What morons
the DS is a far better learning tool

A DS would be a smarter idea (wifi pictochat for a start and then any cartridges they wanted to make i guess).
Surely even wiser is a palmtop, laptop, or just use an interactive whiteboard and teach the class like its meant to be taught, by a teacher standing explaining something instead of a game machine which will either have people not learn as much or have people bring in games and still not learn as much.
I don't want to sound fanboyish but i'd hate to learn on a psp and have no option to use ds.

The issue with DS is that it wont be able to get you " to watch videos, download pictures, and play their own podcasts" as easily as the PSP. And the chance that students will play games on it will increase.
However a PSP is a stupid choice. Use a laptop, just spring an additional $300 and get a cheap laptop. This place seems rich, so Im sure they can do it. Also lots of students probably own laptop and even if they don't they most likely will, so its not a big deal.
If this is sponsered by Sony, its a smart move. However, I doubt Sony would make a smart move.
Now my only wish my school would offer WiFi and the option to take notes with a laptop. :(
