Bonk takes Revenge on the Dragon's Curse, and 3 more coming to VC
Hudson Soft is giving Wii owners its second dose of Bonk with Bonk's Revenge. The Turbo-Grafx 16 platformer is due sometime next month on the Virtual Console, according to the publisher's official list. Also on the list for next month are Dragon's Curse, Bravoman, Battle Lode Runner and Shockman. Bravoman stands as only the second TurboGrafx-16 game from Namco Bandai, and only the fourth title not distributed by Hudson Soft. The first title to be released, Dragon's Curse, is scheduled for next Monday, April 2. All titles will be priced the usual 600 Wii Points for purchase. Also known for next month are three from Sega, including a 2-dimensional Virtua Fighter 2. No word on what classic titles, if any, Nintendo will release in April.

Nin has Mario
Sega has(had) Sonic
M$ has Halo
Sony has FF
TG16 has Bonk
the committee of flagship franchises have come full circle. All of the, great titles, at least I've heard Bonk was good.

Bonk was actually a pretty fun game. Amusing in the least.
Its worth $6. Cheaper than a burrito at Chipotle, as I always say.

Dragon's Curse (one of the Wonderboy series of games) and Battle Lode Runner are the real gems here. Bonk is good, but it's over very fast, and graphically it's not on part with the later games in the PC Genjin series.

I could probably beat Bonk's Revenge faster than you could finish a Chipotle burrito!

Joystiq is making me sleepy today.

after a 5% state tax and a wretched 4% locality tax, a burito exceeds $6 :(

I was surprised after playing Bonk on the VC...it has held up better than I would have expected from my middle school memories, and is certainly more respectable than his Sega counterpart's recent offerings. I'll probably go in for the sequel.

I think Dragon's Curse gets overlooked because it kept getting stuck on the minor systems, TG16 and SMS. Its a great game, and got to take advantage of better graphics on the TG16 than the SMS.
I'm very excited about the prospect of this coming up on the VC.

I agree. Bonk has held up very well. Bonk's Revenge has held up equally as well, IMO. I think Bonk 1 & 2 were the best in the series.
One question though... does the VC give you the ability to use turbo in the TG16 games? The turbo switches on the TG16 controllers really helped out a lot in the Bonk games.

Sorry, I read Bonk's Revenge as Bonk's Adventure, and totally blacked out on the fact that Adventure had already been released.
Revenge is very good, and it's part of that 2nd generation of games that really looked brilliant on the TG-16.

I'd say Sony's is Jak, considering FF is by no means tied to Sony platforms (what with 11 on 360, CC on GC, and Threemake on DS)
But this is certainly the good way to space out major VC releases, just pull out all the hidden gems, between the consoles supported, its a large hidden gems library...
Ken @ Mar 30th 2007 4:49PM
Haha Rubang, I know that was a joke but...
Wanna bet?

Battle Lode Runner was never released in the US.
I'm a little dubious of this list. It is the Japan announced VC titles from the PCE, and I'd be happy to see the list in the US, but it would be a big change as no Japan-only title has hit the VC from any console so far.

I'd bet that I could speedrun SMB1 before you could finish a Chipotle burrito, but not Bonk's Revenge. I'd bet on the burrito side there. Damn I'm so hungry now. I bet I could beat SMW before you could eat 2 Chipotle burritos as well. I think all bets should now be races between speedruns of specific games and a corresponding amount of food.
jeffx @ Mar 30th 2007 5:32PM
Dragon's Curse was amazing, check it out if you're looking for something like Zelda II but with a lot more soul IMHO.
Ken @ Mar 30th 2007 6:08PM
I think that's an amazing idea Rubang. Lol.
A friend and I can beat Contra for the NES, in 18 minutes (that's our current record), and die only a handful of times (less than 10). We're working on not having to use the Konami Code to make it through it.
Rubang B @ Mar 30th 2007 6:51PM
I bet I could eat 3 Chipotle burritos in 18 minutes.

#9- yes you can use the turbo button on the tg16 games.
