Itagaki demonstrates Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword for DS
Revealed earlier this week, Team Ninja's Head Developer Corey Hart Tomonobu Itagaki took the stage today in Tokyo to demonstrate Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword for the Nintendo DS. With the controls consisting almost entirely within the touch screen, a live demonstration of this ambitious action title is exactly what we needed after the initial scans left us somewhat baffled.
IGN, who was on-hand for the event, walked away fairly impressed with Hayabusa's moves as they say he "dart[ed] about the screen just like his Xbox and PS3 counterpart, performing all the expected moves, right down to leaping between walls to get to higher ground." A bold statement considering the pedigree the series has built on nigh perfect controlling action.
With single taps for movements, double taps for jumps and slashes of the stylus for attacks, we're still somewhat skeptical of just how well this will work out, but if anyone can pull it of it's Itagaki and company.

Itagaki..... I just don't like him. But his NinjaGaiden games have been good, so hopefully this DS one will be alright.

Awesome!!
This was one of the few stories in the news, that actually made me excited about video games agian. So much of the same BS over and over agian. another FPS? ....yawn.
Now Ninja Gaiden is one of the few series out there, that make me excited agian. Hooray, still not sure how the game will play out. My hands tend to get in the way anytime I use the stylus.
But I got faith in Itagaki. Not in IGN, but in Itagaki.
Hooray!

wasnt this the person who said the ds sucked because you " need to do more work to get entertained" ? Wasnt the whole idea behind DOAXBV the fact that you had to do very little input to get entertained?

I've met Tomonobu Itagaki on several occasions during interviews for 1up at various E3's, as well as during some one on one game time, and I trust the man when it comes to the Ninja Gaiden series. I'm really looking forward to this DS project of his. Heh, here's one of the earlier times we met:

Too bad I closed my eyes because of the flash (darn those dark places)...
By the way, Jared, did you get my e-mail? Keep it up.

Itagaki reminds me of the worst aspects of Bono and Gackt mixed together. *shudders*
Makes fun games, though. This one looks very interesting.

Please God, add a REAL left-handed mode. I can't tell you how annoying it is to try and play a game that isn't optimised for left hand players.

lol, that was funny. The Bono and Gackt thing.
Gackt's ego is much bigger than Itagaki's. That guy thinks his a god. But he is very talented and he knows it. The guy can sing his ass off. Just not as of late, his voice sounds different. He sounds like he has a cold.
Anyway, I hope the game comes out good.

Mr. Gale, you are a funny-looking man. But Mr. Itagaki is even funnier looking.
I mean that as a compliment. :)

Jared Rea, I don't care if you're joking, but you NEVER cross out Corey Hart's name.

Wasn't Itagaki's reason for Ninja Gaiden only being released on the Xbox was because (at the time) the Xbox was the only console that could handle it?
And here they are making a Ninja Gaiden game for a handheld. lol
Looks cool though, hope it plays just as well
geves @ Mar 31st 2007 11:23AM
I'm pretty sure Itagaki was making games for the Xbox due to the really big check they gave to him.
Because he also said that he would only make games for the most powerful consoles. Yet in all his interviews he says that he has no intentions to make a game for the PS3. Ninja Gaiden Sigma was only being made because one of the other members of team ninja wanted to do it.
But yeah I hope it plays good too.

ninja gaiden II on 360, NOW!
Patrick @ Mar 31st 2007 11:53AM
Andrew, you are the minority, im not saying that it shouldn't be done, i dont want to play against a lefty that sux cuz of controls, but that is one of the last things on devs minds. so my point is, LEARN TO USE YOUR REIGHT HAND LEFTIE F*****
Rubang B @ Mar 31st 2007 1:49PM
@Rob, Itagaki is just like Tim Allen and every other developer who talks about MORE POWER! They're all about power until the DS outsells them by about 10 billion, and then suddenly they're making games for the DS because that's where the MORE MONEY! is.
