Praise be to the Circuit City's and Wal-Mart's of the world as
Guitar Hero II for the Xbox 360 has arrived a few, scant days
early on Mount Joystiq. What? You actually go to a
game store to buy your
games? You should probably stop doing that. After shredding it up like only nerds with tiny, plastic toy guitars can, we actually took a look at the instruction manual, curious as to any information regarding the
mystery port found at the base of the X-Plorer.
The gods of rock shined upon us as it is now clearly labeled the Effects Pedal port, as seen above. Opposite the page is an explanation of all the buttons and gadgets found on the guitar, including an explanation of the Effects Pedal port. How dost thou rocketh mighty ports of pedals?
(Feature currently not available.)Rockin'! Now that we know for sure that it's for some sort of effects pedal, we curl up into the fetal position. We've been scorned in the past by these sorts of shenanigans. We're looking at you, Konami! We still want our
Beatmania III pedal!
(Update - Because everyone is insane and paranoid about
April Fools, we've included some actual pictures of the manual in question behind the cut. We even threw in some Mudkip because we heard that you like him so much.)
Mudkip is happy about
Guitar Hero 2 for Xbox 360. Why can't you be that happy and trusting? Oh, right. The instruction booklet with the pedal blurb is actually an insert that comes with a sticker pack for your gee-tar. Don't worry manual nerds. You'll still get your full-color goodness.
Here is an actual picture of what we scanned at the top of the page. Feel free to toss it into Photoshop and zoom in all you want. Or if you're cool, you can hold down CTRL and use your mouse wheel, right?
Finally, here is the other side of the page that we quoted. Now you understand why we didn't just scan it. If you'll excuse us, we need to get back to unlocking songs.

they said they was working on it but all 360 controlers must have a guide button and a mic expansion port.
you can be voice chatting or sending voice messages while playing. so it needs a mic port.
shoot even the ddr pad has a mic port though its hard to use it lol.

Everyone hates April Fools and we're not doing a joke. Whenever you get the game, you'll see exactly what we've shown in the post.

... I got nothin'. Maybe once I get a 360, I'll buy GHII again for it, unless the Guitar Hero for Wii turns out to be as awesome, if not more awesome.

I bet that those gamers who rock at guitar hero could bust out some actual Drop-D metal on a real guitar by now!

I think the real question is, does it go to 11?

and they will likely be punished for it in someway. It really pisses me off when companies do this. I mean, the fucking packaging that the games come in say in GIANT letters, DO NOT SELL BEFORE 4/3/2007. I mean, I understand that they are just trying to make money, but other smaller businesses (and bigger ones like gamestop) that try to be honest and hold onto this stuff get crapped on by the likes of Wal-Mart, Target, Circuit City, Best Buy, etc. because they just ignore street dates. They do it with all the big releases. Maddens, Halos, Resident Evil, Pokemon, etc.
Needless to say, I called Activision today and reported my local Target, Wal-Mart, and Circuit City for already selling the game. I know it sounds like a shitty thing to do, but so is selling the game before it fucking comes out just because you either have lazy employees or want to get a jump on the sales. As someone who has just started their own small games store, I had 5 copies of GH2 for 360 that came in the other day. I'm holding onto them until 4/3, but when I have people that come into my store and say something like "I would have bought the game here but Wal-Mart is already selling it" it really pisses me off. Activision even labeled the packaging information with a number to call if you witness the street date being broken...so I called them. Hate me if you want, but it's shit like this that is killing the small businesses in America.
If Wal-Mart breaks a street date and they are fined, they could care less, it's chump change. If I break a street date and get fined, I could lose my business. It's bullshit.

this game has more then enough weight to sell-out everywhere, so don't worry about it.

Yeah because car pedals function just like guitar pedals. Ever wonder why you're ignored over at IGN too?

I went to a Gamestop the other day, and the manager (who's pretty cool) showed me their GH2 stock, and told me about the port, speculating as to what it could be for. I said, "I'm sure it's for an effects pedal. A friend of mine has an electric guitar and that's all he uses."
I can't believe I was right.
