While cruising through your friends list on Xbox.com have you ever wondered where some of those gamer pictures come from? Well, we have, and thanks to Major Nelson's input and the tech guys who run Xbox.com they implemented a cool little feature. Now, if you hover your cursor over any gamer picture it'll give you a little more information to what game or picture pack it comes from. This feature is now fully supported by numerous browsers including IE, Firefox, and Opera. Just look for the alt tag to expand with the text or check your status bar for the gamer picture information. True, it's nothing huge, but is one of those nifty little feature that's cool to have and know about. Thanks Xbox.com team, you guys (and gals) are number one in our book.

Nice tool but I could really care less. I will not pay money for a Gamer Pic. I dont care how little money it is, I refuse to pay for something such as that. It should be free. I am already paying to play online with Xbox Live. I am not gonna waste any more money buying these stupid little picture packs and other crap that should be free anyways. It all adds up over time. Really, we should get to pick or make a Gamer Pic of our choice FOR FREE. I dont know whats more ridiculous, people actually paying for this stuff or MS charging. Im willing to bet that Sony will make theirs free and allow users to use their own.

CJ, your in luck! Over a third of the gamer pictures available are free! This is just a little feature for ease of use, just because you see a gamer picture that someone has, doesn't mean you have to buy it! =)
And Sony doesn't even have gamer pictures >.<
If Sony really does try to add that in to the list of things that they have pretty much copied, I think they would be in trouble with copyright.

Gamerpics are no different than avatars present all over the Internet. The PS3 does have an avatar system, from what I understand.
I rarely pay for these either (once-- I bought the sour pinata pack). One thing I do like are games that unlock gamerpics as you play them. I'm often surprised to see new gamerpics in my list that way... a handful of arcade games pop up and say "Gamerpic unlocked!!" (Midway ones), which is nice.

In my opinion a 360. No doubt.
Umh ... I paid 37 cents for a Hitman gamerpic. I'm not going to complain about that. Also, as said above most are FREE.

is that sometype of joke?
I could have sworn you have one of those consoles already. (ps3fanboy site: seen several post of yours.)
My suggestion, get none of them. Go buy a PC. or an Iphone, since its about the same price for 2 of the consoles on the list. oh the possiblities of $250, $400 ($480 Elite), $600 (plus Hdmi), you can buy other great things.

The dumb thing about gamerpoints is that they DO NOT cost 37 cents or whatever. You have to buy points in certain bundled packs. If you stick with only buying XBLA games, you'll always be somewhat even. Once you buy a pic or a theme, you're at an odd number and end up spending the rest of the points on other crap to end up even again. From an economical standpoint, the Marketplace people are geniuses.

@9,
That's right, and I have a feeling its the only reason you see as many people with custom gamerpics as you do. I would never actually purchase points to buy a little icon, but after buying multiple XBLA games I wound up with 100 spare points, so I grabbed my Battlestar Galactica gamerpics.
But it's BSG, and 80 points is only $1. Of course, now I have 20 points that I'll never get rid of.
