First Elite pre-orders begin online
What's more elite that the 360 Elite? Buying the Elite a month before its release, of course. Circuit City is now allowing you to do just that. So, you maybe have to make this decision a little earlier than you thought you would. Are you current 360 owners willing to buy the system again? Are you non-360 owners finally swayed or would you rather spend $20 more for the PS3? If you're willing to pull the trigger, this may be safest bet as it doesn't look like Gamestop will be taking pre-orders.
Unwilling to wait for 27 more days for your Elite system? Well, the good news is, you can act right now. We kid, of course. The Elite comes with a black controller, too.

Dammit, every time I hear this I think Elite is getting put onto XBLA...
Sensai @ Apr 2nd 2007 6:05PM
I don't own a 360, but I do want to get one.
Thing is, I don't think 120 gigs is actually...necessary. Nor do I believe the price that they want is justifiable.
I'll probably get one when this takes the place of the premium package, and that takes the place or the core version.
Christopher @ Apr 2nd 2007 6:10PM
I'm finally swayed towards buying a 360. So many games that I want and so many of the Sony games I would've wanted are coming (or possibly coming) to 360 as well.
Pity I live in London. HMV's holding page is hinting towards a NOVEMBER UK release! I hope that was just some dodgy typing.

If I didn't already own a 360, this would be the one to get. But seeing as the 360 can push 1080p over VGA, and I don't use it for movies or tv shows anyway, there's no real incentive to make an upgrade. Nice, but not needed.
copa @ Apr 2nd 2007 6:22PM
The Elite is everything I don't like about the PS3... too expensive, done-to-death black color scheme, HDCP handshaking nightmares, more storage than I need.
Thanks, I'll pass.
brunaise @ Apr 2nd 2007 6:24PM
I live in London as well and I have a 360 already... What puzzles me is why do people want an here Elite if the Live service around these parts of the world is only good for... playing online... appart from XBLA there is no other worth while download content...
Ankur Vashi @ Apr 2nd 2007 6:28PM
Anyone notice the "wireless receiver" in the features list. Has that been confirmed? Cause if so I'm totally sold to this thing, not that I haven't been anyway. :P

Circuit City just fired all its top-paid workers, telling them that they could reapply for their old jobs in 10 weeks and make a fraction of what they were making at the time they were fired. Classy. They won't be getting my money.
scott @ Apr 2nd 2007 9:16PM
Can someone tell me why 120 gb is even necessary?
mepaco @ Apr 2nd 2007 6:47PM
I'll keep waiting for the process shrink until I pick one up. Thanks but no thanks.
Lp47 @ Apr 2nd 2007 6:53PM
They just released this console to compete with the ps3 hdmi and bigger hard drive. There old system couldnt compete and would quickly phase out so they needed to quickly put a new system out. Why would you want a company who cant support there systems and need to put new ones out constantly to compete with other companies.
Justin U @ Apr 2nd 2007 6:57PM
I've deleted MANY things from my 360 over the year and then some that I've had it...
Not saying a 120 GB harddrive is necessary right now, but I can see it becoming more necessary as time goes on, what with games now using it to hold expansion (Shivering Isles), and with Movies that can be bought and downloaded to it... Hey, you never know, am I right?
Keeko @ Apr 2nd 2007 6:57PM
@ Ankur Vashi
Yeah...wtf???
"• Wireless receiver" in the bullet pointed area...
-and-
"Go wireless: The built-in wireless receiver offers precision gameplay from wireless controllers." in the Features area.
I'm going to assume CC is just stupid however.

Why wouldn't a current 360 owner get one of these? From what I hear 360 owners love their systems so much that most of them are on their 3rd, 4th, hell even 7th system!
On the fence @ Apr 2nd 2007 7:15PM
Does anyone know if this xbox is built any different than the current ones. I would like to get one but am still held up by the Red Ring of Death stories. I heard it will at least run quieter.

"Why wouldn't a current 360 owner get one of these? From what I hear 360 owners love their systems so much that most of them are on their 3rd, 4th, hell even 7th system!"
Ha ha. From what I hear PS3 owners love their games so much that they watch A LOT of blu-ray movies. =)
Chris @ Apr 2nd 2007 7:23PM
@11 I pretty much hate Microsoft, but honestly I've been considering adding a 360 to my Wii for the simple reason that there are games I want to play. The system may not be as good as the PS3 in some areas, but as long as they keep putting out good games, and their hardware is at least working for most people, they're going to continue to make consoles.
Hikaru @ Apr 2nd 2007 7:31PM
"Ha ha. From what I hear PS3 owners love their games so much that they watch A LOT of blu-ray movies. =)"
Yeah, watching movies with the same unit since launch, not like the 7th unit.
The truth @ Apr 2nd 2007 7:32PM
I don't understand why any serious gamers would consider buying this AV/Home Theater-centric version of the XB360 game system.
Obviously, it's black, uses HDMI, and has a bigger HDD so that it looks like it fits in your TV cabinet. MS just wants to shill their XBL-TV downloads!
I'd just buy a regular 360 core and add the 120GB HDD if I really needed the space.
Hikaru @ Apr 2nd 2007 7:39PM
Yep, makes more sense buying the $400 SKU, they should cut the price to $299 and the Core to $199 and stop the release of the Elite.
Mr Khan @ Apr 2nd 2007 7:42PM
HDMI's greatness has been proven to be a myth, and the HDCP things are starting to make it look like a curse (seriously, you need to make a LOCAL VIDEO SIGNAL proprietary, wtf is up with that), so that nulls the importance of its one feature...
They should've just thrown a 120 GB HDD out there (and i'd be saying this even if i were a 360 fanboy), this Elite is unnecessary...
Derka @ Apr 2nd 2007 7:45PM
Oh how I love you sony fanboys. Anyway, I own a premium version of the xbox 360, and do plan on picking up the elite system.
Hikaru @ Apr 2nd 2007 7:53PM
@ I wish I could waste money like you, but I can't.
Ankur Vashi @ Apr 2nd 2007 7:56PM
@ On the fence
The new 360s even the core and premium editions have a BenQ DVD drive that are very very quite and use the 65nm CPU as to cut down on both heat and power consumption. The power bricks that everyone seems to complain about has only a two pronged connection to the outlet instead of the original three, yea that includes the new power bricks for the core and premium consoles
razer @ Apr 2nd 2007 8:00PM
I think the black controllers are going to be the harder to find than the actual console. I've already got 2 360's and I'm not dropping cash for a third and I definately am not going to buy that overpriced HDD upgrade. But a black controller or 2 will be mine. :)
Greg @ Apr 2nd 2007 8:24PM
@ Ankur Vashi
You're right about the BenQ DVD drives. However, I'm afraid they haven't released any 360's that use the 65nm CPU's yet. So all we really have are quieter 360's, but they still get hot due to the current CPU as far as I've heard. If I'm wrong someone correct me with a link.
A @ Apr 2nd 2007 9:58PM
if i didn't have a 360 already, this would be on my list. the extra space should help with media files (i guess hd takes up a lot of space?)
i don't have a problem with the hardware, except its maybe a bit noisy, but i don't notice except when booting up or loading levels. not sure why anyone would characterize xbox as 'constantly upgrading hardware'- this is the first upgrade... and i love my ds LITE.
and i don't understand why anyone cares what company they support- if sony was run buy angels and unicorn farts but i could only play bible blaster on their console, i still wouldnt 'support' them
buy the system with the games you like people. to paraphrase fight club- you are not your f*ing game system
John @ Apr 2nd 2007 10:37PM
I can't believe that haven't moved to the smaller processor yet. Well Sony isn't the only one that knows how to "value" price their consoles. Personally, MS should join the Folding at Home network and really see how many 360's could literally fold up into a molten mess on everyone's living room floors.
Todd Rabanus @ Apr 2nd 2007 10:28PM
What is Sony and Microsoft gonna do when DisplayPort slaps HDMI in the face?
blank @ Apr 2nd 2007 10:28PM
Pre-O'ed!
I have yet to have a 360 fail or do any fatal red blinks, but this will be my fourth (yes... 1, 2, 3, 4) purchase of a 360.
I bought two at launch via pre-order, one from eb, the other from Circuit City during the friday before internet anarchy sell-off, and sold one to a friend at cost. Then 5 months later, bought a new one and gave my old to my buddy so we could play online instead of me continually packing up for the trek across town.
My only question is... will there be a black HD-DVD drive coming at the same time, or at least a faceplate? I'm about to jump on that purchase, but I'm wary of that if there will be a recolor of it.
Flashover @ Apr 3rd 2007 1:10AM
I liked it better when it was called the PS3 and it had Wi-Fi and you could watch High Def movies on it.
