Mother 3 soundtrack on iTunes pours salt in our wound
Seeing the words "Mother 3" in the same sentence as "released" is cause for excitement. In this case, though, it's more like a kick in the stomach. The Mother 3 soundtrack has just been released on the US iTunes store. All 26 songs from MOTHER3i and the arranged album MOTHER3+ are available for $9.99 each. After almost a year of pestering Nintendo to localize the game, we get a soundtrack.
A soundtrack.
Are we being taunted? Is this a carrot dangling in front of our faces or a gift of mercy from the overlord? It is the first commercial release of EarthBound merchandise outside of Japan since the SNES game in 1995. And it's not like fans won't snatch it up in a heartbeat. But does it make sense to release a soundtrack for a game very few of us have played?
Regardless of our bitter feelings, thank you, Nintendo. We don't mean to be demanding, but how about some graphics, a storyline, dialogue, and gameplay to go along with the music?

Where's my English copy of Mother 3? I am sick of my Japanese speaking friends telling me how great that game is.

Of course after the fan translation is finished, nintendo will announce the american release.
Or they'll screw us Americans and not release it at all.
Probably the latter.

I would love to not only get Mother 3, but also Mother 1+2, which were both released on GBA in Japan. I don't care what NOA calls them, just bring them over!!! The GBA is still a viable platform thanks to the DS.

i wish they would just release this damn game, it would sell like crazy... ugh.

Well, being able to speak Japanese, I do have the game. And I still want it translated here. I'm tired of telling people about all the messed-up elements that make the game so great.
Though on the bright side, the soundtrack is awesome. The Love Theme to Mother 3 is my favorite, even if it makes me tear up when I heard it (those who have played it know why).

Comment 1 and comment 6 together make me laugh.

Is it a gba midi soundtrack or an orchestrated one?
If it's just a straight from the gba thing it sure is a nice way to make money without any investment whatsoever.

Nintendo's really good at doing ALMOST what we want, arn't they? Weirdos.
Also, I havn't heard the albums, but even so the music is dynamite in-game. It's a great buy either way, but if you have the actual game the soundtest option would probably work just as well, with the exception of the arranged album.

"Nintendo's really good at doing ALMOST what we want, arn't they?"
So true...so true.
And although I truly do feel your guy's pain, I must say that in the immortal words of Nelson Muntz:
"HA-HA!"

i bought both albums in hopes for a localized Mother3. C'mon Nintendo!
32_Footsteps @ Apr 2nd 2007 6:38PM
Trust me, LuigiHann, the game will make you laugh even more.
Only one thing to say, which is only a very minor spoiler - psychic dancing cross-dressers. Mother 3 has multiple.

The game comes with a music player that gives you the titles as you encounter them in the game. Damn if Coffee Break isn't the best song in the Mother series. 愛のテーマ comes in a close second.
Having tried to work on a couple fan translations for Mother 3, I really doubt anything will ever get accomplished. There are at least three groups I know of putting an effort towards it, but translating a 30+ hour game with that much text that is almost entirely hiragana and making sure everything is consistent is a nearly insurmountable obstacle. I got it at launch and haven't touched the game in over a year now, certainly don't have time to translate it pro-bono. The best I think American gamers can hope for is if Nintendo surprises everyone by releasing it as a download for VC.
MrKlorox @ Apr 3rd 2007 1:29AM
If released stateside at all, it certainly wouldn't be on VC. There has not ever been mention (afaik) of any GB, VB, GBC, GBA, or any other handheld games coming to Wii's VC.
If you put any stock in rumors from EGM, Mother 1+2 and Mother 3 are supposedly to be released stateside on a single NDS cart. The NDS and DSlite both have a GBA slot, which is what I'd expect Nintendo would use should they release.
