Project Sylpheed, Vampire Rain bound for US
The rumors were partially true: Project Sylpheed is coming to the US this summer for the budget price (by new-gen standards) of $39.99. Project Sylpheed is a 3-D makeover of the Sega CD shooter Silpheed, which already has a 2001 sequel, Silpheed: The Lost Planet; all three titles were developed by Game Arts.
Also announced today was Vampire Rain, a shooter that pits you against vampires. It boasts all the best keywords in the shooting genre today: stealth, squad-based action and high-tech weaponry. No word on if it includes garlic launchers or the ability to become a bloodsucker yourself. The game will arrive with the standard $59.99 price tag.
Vampire Rain and Project Sylpheed are both slated for a Summer 2007 release.

Sylpheed for me...even though I could find only one in-depth, decently written (in english) review.

Silpheed's been around a lot longer than the Sega CD... I had it on my IBM PS/1 in '89. The Sega CD version was a remake.

Vampire Rain has been coming here for a while, I thought? Under the name "Rain"?
And it sucked, a lot, so why would we want Vampire Rain in the US anyways?

Game Arts. Lunar 3. NOW.

I have Lost Planet (because it's a sh'mup with Treasure's name involved, though they didn't actually make the game), and I wasn't terribly impressed. To be fair I haven't given it the complete treatment that I gave Ikaruga, but... yeh.
I can't complain, though. The genre is so underrepresented that I am thrilled to see anything come out these days.

These games are both in the rental catergory for me. I'll add them to the bottom of my Gamefly Que.

"Game Arts. Lunar 3. NOW."
Ummm, after Dragon Song, do you REALLY want that? After all, the DS iteration managed to do something spectacular within itself. Take the most boring, menial task in RPGS (read:Grinding) and make the user do it twice as much.
