I'm still waiting for some colors to come state side...and a $150 price tag wouldn't hurt either.

Nice! I've been considering getting one, so this pretty much seals the deal!

The PSP just makes sence for me in my case. The screen's big enough for subtitles (Anime watcher), and I've taken a shine to some of the games (Gitaroo-Man).

@Aex: Thanks, that's pretty much what I'm saying.

No one can beat Nintendo in the handheld market, everyone single company that has tired has failed except Sony. Maybe it's because Sony has more money than Sega, SNK, Gizmondo, Bandai, GamePark, Nokia, Atari, etc (notice I could go on for awhile); but after all these failures Sony is going strong with the PSP with over 20 million units sold. This price drop will only help them continue to sell more.

So for all you PSP haters out there; enjoy the DS or your Gizmondo or GP32. Quit bagging on the 2nd most succesful portable gaming platform ever.

psp needs 2 things... 8 gig flash drive... 2 real analog sticks

although if more games that don't need camera control are made for it, like the god of war game, all will be cool. But very few developers can get that right

looks like GameCrazy is going to have the same drop tomorrow - my local store said their computer will show the new price tomorrow. So are all retailers going to see the drop?

I think this is good (not great), but all of what everyone has said aside...I just wish that Sony would provide a way to unbrick a PSP. I tried to update my PSP when I purchased MLB2K7 using the UMD from Sony. Unfortunately I bought my PSP used so I had no warranty :( Hopefully Sony will fix this type of error really soon!

I wonder what happened to the entertainment pack. Only amazon and a few stores has it. Walmart.com has it but it seems hidden. I guess sony is discontinuing it. I do like the 30 USD price drop but at 149.99 would make it better.

Just make sure when you buy your PSP they don't grab the display, put it in a box and say "Here you go!".

@Derbeste

You logic makes no sense. What you're saying is that ignorance is a valid reason to hate something. I heard all Ford Mustangs were designed by the cryogenically frozen head of Adolf Hitler, thus I hate Ford Mustangs and their "Better Than Jew" lifestyle. Same thing. Just because you believe something doesn't make it the defacto fact and likewise, if you're using false pretenses to hate something, the reason why you hate it does NOT instantly become valid.

And, oh yes, here are the three most common rips on PSX. They've all been shown.

1. DS is still kicking it's ass so = PHAIL.
Yes, DS is winning. Duh. But PSP is still doing hella business. It's even managed to do so with it's high price. The hardware is solid (Sorry Square Button complaint fans, that defect ended within the first 500,000 in Japan. It never even left the island) and the market has proven PSP as a viable console. Thus, it isn't a failed console. It just isn't as wildly successful as the DS. And yes, it is currently outpacing the GBA. But I blame market expansion for that rather than Sony's success.

2. Only thing it's good for is homebrew.
The homebrew is quite good. As it is on Nintendo DS (amazing how people forget about this when using Homebrew as an insult for the console... they tend to forget homebrew on DS has brought us Hentai you can touch... which is fucking sad). But PSP has plenty of great games outside of that realm. And better yet, it has tons of really, really niche titles. Atlus, NIS, and XSeed are making this console a JRPG fans dream come true. The console also has a large amount of casual style games and even things of the deeper variety. And yes, it has console ports which normally suck but sometimes they are great. The games are there AND the games are great. You just have to quit bitching about the console ports to find some games.

3. Hardware defects FTL!
Vast majority of the hardware defects have been bred out of the console due to constant revisions. DPs are all but gone (but still common on DS Lites... hmmm), Square buttons was never an issue that left Japan, nub sucks except on certain genres, flying UMDs never existed, and the hardware is reliable unless it's been hacked and even then, takes a lot to break it. Even battery life seems an invalid complaint since I tend to get between 4-6 hours on each charge from UMD games (running from a memeory stick, I could get and extra 1-2 hours). Could the hardware use revisions? Of course. But it's a pretty well designed console AND one of the sexiest designs on the market right now aside from the iPhone.

Hi! I would like to know whether its worth buying the sony psp just for its GPS capabilities.
I am not much of a gamer. I am keen to get some sort of a gps navigation system for my car.
Any ideas?
Is it worth buying the PSP jsut for its GPS (+$58) ?

The reason DS has sold so many units is because most are owned by children. My brother in law has bought 4 for his son because it was lost/stolen or broken. DS is for 15 and under!!!

I'm a little confused here. Why does it matter if the DS has sold more units than the PSP? Do you own stock in Nintendo? There are several factors why the DS sells more, and most are obvious enough.

Nintendo has sold more handheld systems for one because they have cornered the 5-14 year old market with franchises such as Mario, Yoshi, Wario, Pokemon, playing with doggies, etc. etc. etc. Also, children ask for these things for birthdays, christmas, getting on the A honor roll for the school year. And you know what I say to that? FANTASTIC! They deserve it. Great price point, great franchise names, good for them. I think kids do break them a lot and parents have to replace them.

Personally, I've played Mario a million different ways, and the other cute games, and I'm getting a little bored with it. Just my personal opinion. And thats what makes America great. CHOICES! A person who prefers the DS is no more wrong than someone who prefers the PSP. To me its personal preference. I currently own neither, but I heard of the recent price drop of the PSP, so now I'm thinking of picking up either a DS or PSP so I've been researching online when I came across this message area. I see great things in both systems. I went to Best Buy and played them both. Diddy Kong racing on the DS, and then Crash racing on PSP. PSP just to be blows away the DS in graphics and overall fun I had. So, then I went over to look at game selection. I stared at the DS section and all I saw was rehashed flagship names with super before their name, or DS after it. I want more original games. Lumines, Poco Roco, Puzzle Quest, Ridge Racer, Jax, just to name a few that stood out to me. I came home and checked reviews of games, and then also looked at some articles on the future of both systems.

To me the PSP makes more sense to me, that doesn't make it right or wrong. It's my choice. If you like the DS better, than good for you too. But, I don't think you are wrong for liking it. Just my 2 cents.

This is great, I have a ds lite, but my cousin just got a psp, and I wanted one too. Now i don't have to save as much money for it. I like my ds, but the psp has better graphics, a free internet browser, music, and movies.
I can't wait to get a psp.

Oh, yeah i forgot to mention i'm getting the entertainment pack, now it's only like 220! at walmart, man these psps have gotten cheap. the only reason i got a ds lite, was because of the lower price, now i'm definitely going to get a psp, could it get any better, from 250 to 170 in only 2 years, this is great news.
