The Gamers' Gallery aims to be web's 'best damned screenshot viewer'

Evil Avatar's Nicholas Puleo (a.k.a. bapenguin) has launched The Gamers' Gallery, described as a public database of screenshots, game data, and news. As the domain name implies, the emphasis is on the images. "The Gamers' Gallery was created because all other screenshot viewers are severely lacking. I really just wanted to create the best damn screenshot viewer on the internet," says Puleo.

So did he? Puleo admits TGG is still in its infancy, but the potential is there. Galleries aren't buried behind pages of fluff and the ability to vote and comment on images reinforces the community dynamic -- and adds comic relief. For a small fee ($10/yr) users can become contributing members, unlocking high-res images (without watermarks!) and the ability to create galleries and a custom webpage. ~~We hope subscribers also get a watermark-free experience.~~ Shameless stamping is one lasting "feature" that 'lacking viewers' rarely lack. Let's hope Puleo and staff decide to break the old habit (for the non-subscriber's sake).

I like how they apply their logo over the logo of other sites. For example, there's some screenshots from GameWatch, and they just put their "GG" logo right over it -- you can still see the "GameWatch" logo.

#2 - I'm not sure which ones you are referring to, but all of our screens come straight from the publishers/press sites.

Alex - We are just starting out, it's going to take some time to build up a solid database of screens and relationships. And fret not, I'm not going anywhere on EvAv, in fact I plan to implement a lot of the tech I did with TGG on EvAv!

I'll stick with uploading to, embedding and linking from imageshack. Their uploading might be buggy and irritating, but once a pic is up, it's up and without watermarks/resolution constraints.

The most I do with screenshots is inform people in the very small communities I take a part of about games I'm looking forward to. I'm not really looking for a community experience since I already have too many I'm a part of, I just want to contribute. Forcing contributors to pay sounds kind of foolish since they're the ones driving the service.
